Improving Nutritional Delivery To Pediatric Patients On Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, Jennifer Ruiz-Boada, Sarah Brunner, Tara Benton, Vimal Chadha

Presentations

INTRODUCTION: Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is used in critically ill children with acute renal failure. CRRT can lead to malnutrition by removing essential proteins and micronutrients. Malnutrition is associated with worse outcomes, including increased length of stay and mortality. CRRT guidelines suggest the importance of early nutrition and ensuring high protein intake. After evaluating our CRRT patients, we found sub-optimal adherence to the guidelines. This Quality Improvement project aimed to increase the percentage of patients achieving 75% of their goal protein and caloric intake by day 5 of CRRT initiation by 15% by August 2023. METHODS: A multidisciplinary group …

Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal Jan 2024

Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal

West Chester University Master’s Theses

Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. Framing theory can be operationalized through the Content Appealing to Youth Index, an index of content elements found in research literature to be appealing to youth, to …

Relationships Of Secondary Traumatic Stress, Compassion Fatigue, And Compassion Satisfaction Among Maternity Nurses Caring For Patients Who Succumbed To Maternal Mortality, Debra Joy Mendelson

Theses & Dissertations

Background:

Maternity nurses work where positive outcomes are the norm, leaving them more vulnerable to the adverse effects of dealing with death. Limited data indicate that caring for a maternity patient who dies may result in nurses developing secondary traumatic stress and associated compassion fatigue, which may affect their job performance. Research is warranted to promote a better understanding of nurses’ experiences, especially since the increase in maternal mortality has resulted in more nurses being exposed to maternal death.

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to explore relationships between secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, and compassion satisfaction of maternity …

The cellular junctional architecture remodeling by Listeria adhesion protein-heat shock protein 60 (LAP-Hsp60) interaction for Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) passage through the epithelial barrier is incompletely understood. Here, using the gerbil model, permissive to internalin (Inl) A/B-mediated pathways like in humans, we demonstrate that Lm crosses the intestinal villi at 48 h post-infection. In contrast, the single isogenic (lap− or ΔinlA) or double (lap−ΔinlA) mutant strains show significant defects. LAP promotes Lm translocation via endocytosis of cell-cell junctional complex in enterocytes that do not display luminal E-cadherin. In comparison, InlA facilitates …
