The Understanding Of Mycorrhizae Networks: A Historical Approach, Jake Sun
The Understanding Of Mycorrhizae Networks: A Historical Approach, Jake Sun
The Confluence
The growth of mycorrhizal fungi into plant roots used to be viewed as a parasitic relationship between plants and fungi, where the fungal symbiont benefits and the plant host is harmed. Current research elucidates a mutualistic relationship. The mycorrhizae network assists the plants by increasing the capabilities for nutrient absorption in the soil. In exchange, the fungi receive carbon supply from the photosynthetic plants for growth. Our scientific understanding of other topics like species specificity, seed germination, and co-evolutionary influence of mycorrhizae and plants has also progressed. Additionally, we now understand that the mycorrhizal mutualism is not limited to the ...

The Four Agreements Analysis Los Cuatro Acuerdos De Don Miguel Ruíz, Dulce Morales
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The Toltecs were an indigenous Mexican culture of great warriors and artists with a very unique wisdom on life and behavior, that lived around 1000 years ago. Their extended knowledge on life and behavior certainly can be of help on developing a great leader in any organization based on the four agreements they practiced to better themselves spiritually, emotionally and physically. Therefore, Don Miguel Ruiz did some research of the Toltecs Wisdom and learn more about these four agreements:
- Be impeccable with your word.
- Don’t take anything personally.
- Don’t make assumptions.
- Always do your best.

The Ems Deficit: A Study On The Excessive Staffing Shortages Of Paramedics And Its Impact On Ems Performance In The States Of South Carolina And North Carolina And Interventions For Organizational Improvements., James Boyd Eubanks
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This is a qualitative multi-case study on emergency medical services (EMS) paramedic shortages, their effects on ambulance responses, and the quality of patient care in the prehospital environment. A qualitative multi-case study was selected for this study because the nature of the methods’ design aligned with a systematic approach of life experiences (Creswell, 2015). Paramedics who participated in this study provided insight, from life experiences, as to why one prematurely leaves EMS; thus, creating a staffing shortage. The foundation of this study is the high staffing shortages of paramedics specifically in South Carolina (SC) and North Carolina (NC). Drastically reducing ...

Patient Experience Journal
An important concern for health care professionals is that standardized patient surveys may not fully capture all the topics that are important to patients. As a result, health care professionals may not have a complete picture of what their patients experience. The purpose of this research is to utilize a state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing technique to make sense of patients’ solicited, unstructured comments to gain a deeper and broader understanding of their experiences in the hospital. We analyzed a large dataset of inpatient survey responses (48,592 patients generating 65,998 comments) by a patient experience survey vendor for an ...

Patient Experience Journal
The conversation on measuring experience has been a long and thoughtful one. It has reflected a dynamic tension between measures used as a lever for action in some health systems and as a mechanism to determine reimbursable dollars in others. Yet underlying all the conversation, the question of what we measure, to what end we measure and what truly matters to those who experience care remains. Through a series of conversations over the last two years senior experience leaders across healthcare organizations determined it is time to assess the current landscape of patient experience measurement, to acknowledge what the existing ...

Molecular Characterization Of Blakpc, Blandm1, And Acra Genes In Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Rasha Medhat El-Morsi
Delta University Scientific Journal
Abstract
Klebsiella pneumonia (K. pneumonia) harboring blaKPC, blaNDM1, and acrA genes are highly resistant and inactivate all β-lactam antibiotics including carbapenems. This study aimed to molecularly characterization of these enzymes in K. pneumonia isolates. A total of sixty-seven clinical isolates of multiple drug-resistant (MDR) K. pneumonia were collected from different sites of infection, characterized and subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing, double-disc diffusion Synergy test (DDST) and Modified-Hodge test (MHT). blaKPC, acrA , blaNDM1 genes amplified by PCR. K. pneumonia isolates carrying these resistance genes were fully identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and the relatedness of isolates was ...
Protective Effects Of Artemisinin On The Placenta Of L-Name Induced Preeclampsia In Rat, Hanan Eissa El Shafey Hanan
Protective Effects Of Artemisinin On The Placenta Of L-Name Induced Preeclampsia In Rat, Hanan Eissa El Shafey Hanan
Delta University Scientific Journal
Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy induced hypertensive disorder and an important cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It affects about 3 - 8% of all pregnancies worldwide. Placental factors that arise from placental hypoxia/ischemia set off molecular and cellular cascades, resulting in vascular endothelial dysfunction.
Objective: The aim of study was to clarify the possible protective effect of Artemisinin (ART) on the placenta of L-NAME induced PE in rats and to explore possible involved mechanisms.
Method: Thirty pregnant female Sparge Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (10 rats/each): The control group, PE-group, and ART ...

Homology Modeling And Docking Studies Of Peroxisomal Carnitine O-Octanoyltransferase, Rania Khalil
Delta University Scientific Journal
Computational docking is used for optimizing known drugs and for defining new binders by simulating their binding mode and affinity. AutoDock tools have been widely cited as necessary tools in structure-based drug design. These methods are rapid enough to declare virtual screening of ligand libraries. We selected a target involved in transferases enzyme class and provided a fully reproducible docking protocol. This paper will show how docking techniques would be an important asset to identify new ligands interactions with transferases. We used Non-3D structures of chosen transferases and built models for the proteins in trying to find putative compounds against ...
When "First, Do No Harm" Fails: A Restorative Justice Approach To Workgroup Harms In Healthcare, Pedro L. Flores
When "First, Do No Harm" Fails: A Restorative Justice Approach To Workgroup Harms In Healthcare, Pedro L. Flores
Dissertations
In healthcare, workgroup mistreatment is a pervasive problem that begins during medical education (medical and nursing school) and becomes embedded in the “hidden curriculum of professionalism,” which dissuades and even punishes learners for talking about abuse they witness. Furthermore, the mistreatment of healthcare providers (HCPs) pervades all disciplines in the healthcare delivery chain due to a combination of cultural factors, systemic pressures, dysfunctional hierarchies, and leadership’s tolerance of intimidating and disruptive behaviors. Not surprisingly, 18% of U.S. HCPs have left the medical field since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and burnout, stress, anxiety, and increased workloads have ...

Grasping The Intangible: The Perseverance Of Physical Music Media In A Digital World, Sam Youmans
Grasping The Intangible: The Perseverance Of Physical Music Media In A Digital World, Sam Youmans
Honors Theses
Music is a unique economic good with several interesting characteristics: as an art form, its value is immensely subjective and changes with the culture; it is most widely consumed via online streaming platforms but still embedded onto physical formats and sold through retailers; and the United States music business had to pivot through substantial economic disruption at the turn of the century with the advent of peer-to-peer file sharing. Given the digital world in which we live, this thesis explains why people still purchase music on physical formats. This is accomplished by discussing revenue data from the past few years ...
