The purpose of this study was to determine the applicability of the value clarifying approach as an additional educational method to assist the chronic heart patient to examine his life style, establish some priorities, and implement changes in his life style in light of his disease condition and the limitations it imposes.

In an experimental study 20 male and female, medical and surgical cardiac patients participated in an educational program involving 8 value clarifying sessions. After these sessions the patients evaluated their own behavior in terms of their self-set goals, in the life style areas of smoking, diet, work, exercise …

Response Of The Spinal Tract And Nucleus Of The Trigeminal Nerve To Two Stimuli, Carl A. Nelson

Masters Theses

(Summary) 1. An attempt was made to separate pre- and post-synaptic action potentials on the basis of recovery of spike height to the second of two supramaximal stimuli.

2. Two distinct groups of action potentials were recorded from the spinal tract of the trigeminal nerve.

3. A series of recovery-cycles of the spike potentials of the sciatic nerve was plotted for comparison with the spike potential of the spinal tract of the fifth nerve.

4. A 2 channel stimulator and a 5 unit synchronizer circuit were designed and constructed for use in these experiments. The utilization of a …

During the past months much has been published in periodicals, especially those of a pictorial nature, which discredits institutions established for the care of' the mentally ill throughout the nation. Many articles have been presented which show an intelligent approach, but the majority of these treatments are by those who are basing too much on a very narrow experience. For example, one news magazine recently printed a picture of a mental patient in institutional garb sitting on a bench in one of the poses most characteristic of a catatonic.
