The incidence of rampant caries in patient's for nasopharyngeal cancer who undergone radiotherapy treatment has been well documented. However a study of recent case histories has found that as well as the development of rampant caries after such treatment, another type of caries was also found to be prevalent. This other type of radiotherapy induced caries can be distinquished from rampant caries by virtue of its unique pattern of development.

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

The Effect Of Interpolated Continuous Reinforcement Following Fixed Ratio Reinforcement On Resistance To Extinction, Beverly B. Conway
Graduate Theses
The effect on response rates during extinction of interpolating varying numbers of continuous reinforcement sessions after seven fixed ratio-25 sessions was investigated. Rats received either seven, fourteen, or twenty-one sessions of continuous reinforcement. All rats then received seven sessions of extinction. There were three rats in each group. All sessions were thirty minutes long. The results showed rats receiving the CRF schedule for fourteen sessions make the most responses during extinction. Rats receiving the CRF schedule for fourteen sessions make the most responses during extinction. Rats receiving the CRF schedule for twenty-one sessions made fewer responses during extinction. Taken alone …

Understanding A Presented Problem From A Phenomenological Perspective, Anant Jain
Understanding A Presented Problem From A Phenomenological Perspective, Anant Jain
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
Social work and other helping professions utilize knowledge generated by social sciences to understand human behavior and human problems. Social sciences follow positivistic and humanistic philosophies. The former claims that methodologies applicable to natural sciences should be applicable to social sciences. The latter believes that positivistic methods are reductionist and social sciences should develop their own methodology because they deal with a unique subject matter--human beings. Phenomenology, a branch of humanistic thinking, has been offered as a perspective to understand the presented problem by the client. Several cases are utilized to highlight the role of a professional in understanding the …

Recognition And Characterization Of Stage-Specific Oocyst/Sporozoite Antigens Of Toxoplasma Gondii By Human Antisera., Lloyd H. Kasper, Patricia L. Ware
Dartmouth Scholarship
Human infection with Toxoplasma gondii is presumed due to the ingestion of either tissue cysts containing bradyzoites or oocyst/sporozoites that are excreted in the feces of infected cats. The incidence of human infection in the general population by either of these routes is unknown. We have previously described unique stage-specific oocyst/sporozoite antigens identified by murine hybridoma monoclonal antibodies. We obtained acute and convalescent antitoxoplasma antisera from patients in an epidemiologically well-documented outbreak of oocyst-transmitted infection associated with the ingestion of contaminated water. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay comparing equal numbers of tachyzoites (invasive stage) and oocyst/sporozoite (excreted stage) indicated that these …

Correlates Of Knowledge And Locus Of Control On Burden In Professional Caregivers Of Alzheimer's Disease Victims In Three Institution Types, Ruth A. Manning-Gay
Community & Environmental Health Theses & Dissertations
In assessing professional caregivers of Alzheimer's Disease victims, this study tested whether, 1) knowledge would influence perceptions of burden in providing care to such patients, and if 2) individual locus of control would influence perceptions of burden in caring for; Alzheimer's I patients. Professional nurses (BSN's, RN's, and LPN's) from nursing banes, hospitals and psychiatric facilities were asked to complete a three part survey. Three instruments were utilized in this study: the Burden Self-Interview by Zarit, Reeves and Bach-Peterson and adapted for professional caregivers, a 15 item knowledge quiz and the North Carolina Internal External scale (short form) by Schopler, …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this paper was to evaluate eight currently marketed sports bras for differences in control of vertical displacement of the breast, overall comfort scores, and overall support scores for A, B, C and D cup sizes. An additional goal was to determine and compare differences in the vertical displacement of the nude breast among the four cup size groups. To determine differences in vertical displacement, subjects were filmed while jogging on a treadmill, and film data were analyzed frame by frame. To determine differences in overall comfort and support ratings, subjects tested each of the eight bra styles …

Anxiety Differences Associated With Transtelephonic And Conventional Pacemaker Client Follow-Up Methods, Julieta Advento Richman
Ellmer School of Nursing Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to explore if differences existed in state and trait anxiety between clients with cardiac pacemakers who were utilizing a transtelephonic or conventional method of health care follow-up. A convenience sample of 44 clients with cardiac pacemakers completed the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Lushene (1964) and a demographic inventory. Subjects were classified into two groups according to the method of follow-up: Group I (n=22) was the transtelephonic follow-up, and Group II (n=22) was the conventional follow-up. Data were analyzed using t-tests for independent samples. The results showed that there were significant …
