Traumatic Brain Injury Prevention Through Helmet Safety Education For Parents And Free Helmets For Elementary-Aged School Children, Kelli E. Camp Apr 2025

Traumatic Brain Injury Prevention Through Helmet Safety Education For Parents And Free Helmets For Elementary-Aged School Children, Kelli E. Camp

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Problem Description: Head injuries from bicycle accidents are a leading cause of emergency visits among elementary-aged children, particularly in rural areas (Safe Kids Worldwide, 2017). Helmets significantly reduce traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) up to 88% (Field Neurosciences Institute, n.d.). However, low-income families, especially in rural areas, often lack access to helmets and safety education, resulting in lower helmet use and higher injury rates. These challenges are amplified in communities facing high traffic injury rates, limited access to safety resources, and economic constraints (Gilna et al., 2022; World Health Organization, 2023).

Setting: This project took place in Othello, WA (pop. 8,915), …

Specifically, the researcher hypothesized that participants with more expertise and experience would have greater negative perceptions associated with AI in healthcare compared to participants with a lower expertise level. Participants completed a questionnaire evaluating their perceptions of healthcare AI across four components: long-term negative consequences of AI, need for AI safeguards, positive perceptions of AI, and AI control. Participants also completed demographic questions evaluating participants' age, sex, ethnicity, years working in a healthcare setting, medical …

Lead Telecommunications Cables: A Call For Concern?, Zachary Young Apr 2025

Lead Telecommunications Cables: A Call For Concern?, Zachary Young

Michigan Journal of Environmental & Administrative Law

From the late 1800s until the 1950s, telecommunication companies across the United States utilized lead casing to protect their telecommunication lines. As technology developed and different types of plastic coatings were created, telecommunication companies phased out the use of lead cables. However, the lead cables remain in the air and buried in the ground, even continuing to provide telephone service for some. The failure to remove these cables, most of which are not in use anymore, has generated a slew of issues for the modem-day telecommunication companies that have inherited these cables from their predecessors. As the protective casing decays, …

Implementing Nutrition Education For Patient’S Being Initiated In Semaglutide: Quality Improvement Project, Liliane Colbert Apr 2025

Implementing Nutrition Education For Patient’S Being Initiated In Semaglutide: Quality Improvement Project, Liliane Colbert

DNP Projects

Significance and Background: The nutrition literacy assessment instrument (NLit) and healthy eating habits assessment, are underutilized tools, as components in providing nutrition education for patients in primary care. There is a lack of knowledge of their availability, thus leading to missed opportunities to provide a more targeted approach to improve nutrition literacy. In the primary care setting, no formal approach is utilized in providing nutrition education to patients being seen for medical weight-loss management. Another element missing from the current process, is a tool that medical providers can utilize, to understand a patient’s baseline nutrition literacy and eating habits. Thus, …

Background

Patient falls are amongst the most preventable yet costly accidents that occur in an inpatient setting. Research has shown that falls are the most common causes of traumatic brain injuries and hip fractures, which can be detrimental, especially to the aging population. Furthermore, inpatient falls pose a major financial burden on all hospital institutions worldwide. Interventions that have proved to decrease fall rates involve a combination of patient and staff education, proper footwear and accessibility to walking aids, and ensuring that alarms are active and audible, and the patient beds are in lowest position. Therefore, a combination approach to …

Improving The Experience Of Self-Injection In Medical Weight Loss Patients Prescribed Glp-1 Agonists: A Quality Improvement Project, Maegan Wing Apr 2025

Improving The Experience Of Self-Injection In Medical Weight Loss Patients Prescribed Glp-1 Agonists: A Quality Improvement Project, Maegan Wing

DNP Projects

Background/Introduction: Obesity is a chronic disease linked to numerous health complications. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists, including Semaglutide, Liraglutide, Dulaglutide, and Tirzepatide, are effective in weight management but require self-injection. Many patients experience barriers such as needle fear, technique difficulties, and anxiety, leading to early medication discontinuation. Data indicates that only 46.3% of patients continue GLP-1 therapy after 180 days, with adherence rates as low as 27.2% (Gleason et al., 2024). Addressing these barriers through structured provider-led self-injection training is essential to improve adherence, enhance patient outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs. Currently, at this DNP project site, there is a …

R Exams And Continuous Assessment, Eugene Hickey Apr 2025

R Exams And Continuous Assessment, Eugene Hickey

Case studies: Digital Education

The traditional format of CA, the midterm test, was proving inadequate for our final year students. Waiting several weeks into semester before getting detailed feedback on their performance and the congestion of several midterm tests from different modules were having a negative impact on the learning experience. To that end a regular series of CA work was deemed preferential. It would be unfeasible to do this during class, and it is more student-friendly to let them do these in their own time. Therefore, online tests hosted on a VLE were seen as the solution. To ensure that students were working …

Revitalizing Passenger Rail: A Sustainable Solution To Environmental And Public Health Challenges In South Carolina, Benjamin Cochran Apr 2025

Revitalizing Passenger Rail: A Sustainable Solution To Environmental And Public Health Challenges In South Carolina, Benjamin Cochran

Theses and Dissertations

South Carolina, a historic leader in passenger rail, has become a heavily vehicle-dependent state. As the population rapidly grows, so does the number of vehicles, vehicle miles traveled, and vehicle emissions, including the greenhouse gas pollutants carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and particulate matter (PM2.5), significantly contributing to air pollution and deteriorating health and environmental outcomes. Despite this, mass transit is nonexistent for the three largest cities in South Carolina, Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville, forcing residents and travelers to drive. This study evaluates the feasibility and the environmental, public health, environmental justice, and economic implications of a passenger rail …
