Salud En Venta: Cómo Las Agencias De Turismo Médico En Argentina Comercializan Atención Médica En Un Panorama Regulatorio Fragmentado, Emma Greally
Argentina: Public Health in Urban Environments

An Exploration Of Telemedicine Application Service Quality And Its Relevance With Patient Satisfaction, Victoria Olguin
Posters - 2025
Telehealth is the usage of technology to connect people from distinct locations to deliver healthcare services. Though the COVID-19 pandemic did accelerate the usage of telehealth, the practice of telehealth can date back to the civil war in the 1860s, when messages were sent from wounded soldiers back to medics. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the telehealth care model quickly accelerated and is now used and accepted by many worldwide. After the pandemic, patients have continued to use telehealth health services by downloading telehealth mobile applications on their mobile devices that connect them to their healthcare provider. This has raised …

Analysis Of Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Cards Toxin In The Air-Liquid Interface Bronchial Culture Model, Alexandria Hernandez
Posters - 2025
Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a pathogen that can cause severe respiratory infection that can rarely be life threating. There are currently no vaccines against M. pneumoniae, and the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant strains of M. pneumoniae is on the rise.1 During infection, M. pneumoniae produces a toxin called Community Acquired Respiratory Distress Syndrome (CARDS) toxin, which plays a role in establishing infection. Analysis of the crystal structure of CARDS toxin protein reveals three protein domains: D1, D2,and D3.
After entering a cell, CARDS toxin traffics by a retrograde process to the ER of the cell, where it undergoes processing.4 Our current studies …

Semi-Parametric Testing For Ordinal Treatment Effects In Time-To-Event Data Via Dynamic Dirichlet Process Mixtures Of The Inverse-Gaussian Distribution., Jonathan A Race, Amy S Ruppert, Yvonne Efebera, Michael L Pennell
Ambulatory and Primary Care Articles
Time-to-event data often violate the proportional hazards assumption under which the log-rank test is optimal. Such violations are especially common in the sphere of biological and medical data where heterogeneity due to unmeasured covariates or time varying effects are common. A variety of parametric survival models have been proposed in the literature which make more appropriate assumptions on the hazard function, at least for certain applications. One such model is derived from the first hitting time paradigm which assumes that a subject's event time is determined by a latent stochastic process reaching a threshold value. Several random effects specifications of …

INTRODUCTION: During a cerebrovascular procedure, diligent care is made to ensure no air is present in lines and connectors. Should air enter the cerebral vasculature, cerebral air emboli can cause worsening neurological outcome or death. This communication outlines how a process change of refrigerating mixed heparin for storage lead to the presence of unintentional air, or off-gassing of the fluid.
MATERIAL & METHOD: The off-gassing phenomenon was noted during procedure. Various hypotheses were considered, including fluid preparation and manufacturing defects of lines and tubes. Further investigation identified a new process in mixing of heparin bags that were then refrigerated. The …

Food For Thought: The Impact Of The Gut-Brain Axis On Mental Health, Emily S. Miiller
Honors Thesis
Research regarding the role of the human microbiome has grown over the years as professionals develop a better understanding of the gut-brain axis. New studies and expanding knowledge on the relationship between the nervous system and gut microbiome promote a deeper understanding of the impact of diet on mental health. Diet plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy balance between the gut and the brain. Incorporating nutritional modulators, such as probiotics, prebiotics, and vitamins, is crucial for supporting the gut-brain axis by influencing neurotransmitter production, managing inflammation, and promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. On the other hand, …

Let's Grow: Investigating The Relationship Between Houseplants And Mental Health In College Students, Makia G. Adler
Honors Thesis
This literature review explores the potential mental health benefits of houseplants for college students, a population increasingly affected by anxiety and depression. With traditional mental health services strained and often inaccessible, simple and low-cost alternatives are urgently needed. This review examines whether the presence and interaction with houseplants can improve psychological well-being, specifically symptoms of anxiety and depression. Drawing from ten peer-reviewed studies, this review finds a generally positive association between houseplants and mental health, though results vary. Notably, the duration of exposure appears to have little effect, while setting and autonomy in plant interaction are more influential. Interactions in …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Telomere length (TL) is a biomarker of cellular aging with variations observed by sex, age, race, and ethnicity. Prior studies have suggested that physical activity (PA) may positively impact TL by potentially elongating telomeres and slowing cellular aging. However, research examining the optimal type and intensity of PA needed to elicit these changes specific to women remains limited. This systematic review aimed to investigate variations in TL in response to PA among women, exploring how these effects differ by age, race, or ethnicity. Following PRISMA guidelines, searches across five databases identified 17 relevant studies published from 2008 to 2022. A …

DNP Final Reports
Good colonic bowel preparation (CBP) is an important component of colonoscopy but is often inadequate. Improving CBP can help increase detection of precancerous polyps, prevent procedures from being canceled or repeated, and decrease medical expenses. A quality improvement project was implemented to increase adequate CBP rates at an ambulatory surgery center specializing in endoscopy. Several factors correlate with suboptimal CBP, but the practice question focused on patient education. The PICOT question guiding evidence synthesis was posed: In adult patients preparing for outpatient colonoscopy, how do revised instructions with visual aids compared to written instructions affect CBP adequacy and patient satisfaction? …
