Food neophobia “the reluctance to try unfamiliar foods” may influence diet variety and cultural food acceptance among young adults. College students represent a critical group for studying this behavior, as they are developing independent eating habits that can persist into adulthood. This study examined the prevalence of food neophobia among U.S. college students and evaluated how academic background, travel, cultural exposure, and demographic factors influence openness to trying unfamiliar foods. Exposure to campus suicide poses a significant threat to adolescent mental health. While childhood psychological abuse (CPA) is a known vulnerability factor for depression, the mechanisms linking this early adversity to depressive symptoms (DS) following acute trauma remain unclear. This study aimed to test a chain mediation model where CPA contributes to DS through the sequential effects of psychological trauma (PT) and anxiety symptoms (AS). In a cross-sectional study of 1603 adolescents exposed to a campus suicide event, participants completed self-report measures for CPA, PT, AS, and DS. Firefighters are routinely exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) during fire suppression activities, molecular biomarkers reflecting such exposure remain underexplored. Thus, we explored an integrated exposure assessment framework linking PAH contamination on turnout gear and skin to changes in microRNA (miRNA) expression in skin and blood biospecimens. Our goals are to evaluate the relationship between fire-related PAH exposure and miRNA expression profiles in firefighters, and to identify candidate miRNA biomarkers of occupational exposure. Here, we present MultiSite Assembly of Gateway Induced Clones (MAGIC), which leverages Gateway-based recombinatorial cloning technology for rapid, modular assembly of plasmids to facilitate transgenesis in cells and vertebrate animal models. The MAGIC collection of plasmids spans a range of in vitro and in vivo uses, from tools for optically and chemically tunable gene expression, to simultaneous expression of microRNAs and fluorescent reporters, to a suite of distinct subcellular compartmental fluorescent reporters, to Cre and Dre recombinase-dependent gene expression. Experience with the Aurora extravascular (EV) implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA) remains limited among pediatric centers in contrast to its broader implantation in adults. We evaluated our single-center experience with the EV ICD as part of our standard ICD options for treatment of malignant ventricular arrhythmias in pediatric subjects. Following approval for EV ICD implantation at our center, five consecutive adolescent patients underwent implantation over a 7-month period. Patient characteristics, qualification for EV ICD placement, nuances in EV ICD implantation in each patient, and post-implant follow-up were reviewed. High-grade astrocytoma with piloid features (HGAP) is a recently described IDH-wildtype tumor with limited literature describing its imaging features. We present our institution's experience and the largest imaging-focused cohort of HGAP reported to date, offering a comprehensive analysis of MRI features of seventeen intracranial and one spinal HGAP, while introducing novel imaging features that have not been previously described. These include focal areas of diffusion restriction, surrounding spiculated, finger-like enhancement and increased perfusion metrics. Additionally, we highlight imaging features of HGAP arising in patients with Neurofibromatosis Type 1, such as intraventricular tumor spread, unusual temporal lobe location and multifocal presentation.

Spasticity, a complex consequence of upper motor neuron lesions, poses challenges for clinical assessment due to its neural and mechanical origins. Traditional scales like the Modified Ashworth and Tardieu Scales provide subjective, context-limited insights, often missing spasticity's dynamic nature. Neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) modeling offers objective, quantitative insights by integrating patient-specific muscle-tendon properties, reflex dynamics, and multi-joint biomechanics. This scoping review examines advancements in spasticity modeling, comparing mechanical, neurological, and integrated approaches, and their applications in conditions like cerebral palsy and stroke. The impact of these changes on long-term health outcomes remains unknown. Pexidartinib (PEX, TURALIO®), a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is approved for treating tenosynovial giant cell tumor in adults. However, its potential to cause fatal liver injury has prompted the U.S. FDA to issue a black box warning, and the mechanisms underlying its hepatotoxicity remain largely unknown. As biotransformation may contribute to PEX-induced hepatotoxicity, understanding its metabolism is essential. Our previous research indicated that PEX forms reactive metabolites in human and mouse liver microsomes and in human hepatocytes. Background: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and intravenous (IV) ketamine are treatments used for severe depression and/or treatment-resistant depression (TRD). ECT is considered one of the most effective treatments for severe depression, although there is debate within the field regarding the effectiveness between ECT and IV ketamine in comparable TRD patient groups.

Methods: This retrospective chart review of open-label, nonrandomized treatment from a psychiatric hospital compared the effects of up to three weeks of ECT and IV ketamine in patients with major depressive episodes (MDEs). The increasing scale and complexity of neuroimaging datasets aggregated from multiple study sites present substantial analytic challenges, as existing statistical analysis tools struggle to handle missing voxel-data, suffer from limited computational speed and inefficient memory allocation, and are restricted in the types of statistical designs they are able to model. Genomic studies of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) have identified several relevant genomic variants. EBF3 is a gene with an excess of protein-coding de novo variants and underlies Hypotonia, Ataxia, and Delayed Development Syndrome. We previously identified noncoding de novo variants in an enhancer of EBF3 and further found enrichment of deletions of this enhancer in NDDs. In this study, we generated a novel mouse line that deletes the highly conserved, orthologous mouse region within the Rr169617 regulatory region, and characterized the molecular and phenotypic aspects of this mouse model. This study evaluates the in vivo pharmacokinetics of triple-drug gastro-retentive formulation (metronidazole- Plantago ovata seed mucilage/ clarithromycin- Abelmoschus esculentus fruit mucilage/enteric-coated pantoprazole) for Helicobacter pylori eradication, with a focus on pharmacokinetic parameters (e.g., relative bioavailability vs. conventional doses) as the true contribution. In a cross over study using six rabbits, plasma concentrations of metronidazole, clarithromycin, and pantoprazole sodium were measured via High Performance Liquid Chromatography technique, and pharmacokinetic parameters were determined. This study analyses the economic and clinical implications of treating pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), focusing on direct treatment costs and patient outcomes at Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases in Vietnam. Data were collected from 448 inpatient TB cases throughout 2022, encompassing both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant forms of TB. Analysis revealed that drug-resistant TB patients incur significantly higher treatment costs compared to those with drug-sensitive TB, with costs escalating further among older adults and patients with multiple comorbid conditions. Specifically, treatment for drug-resistant TB averaged $463.84 per patient, significantly surpassing the $217.09 average for drug-sensitive cases, indicating the economic burden posed …

Breast cancer (BC) progression relies heavily on extracellular matrix degradation, mediated in part by matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7). While overexpression of MMP-7 has been implicated in multiple cancers, data from Middle Eastern populations remain limited.

This study examined MMP-7 gene expression and polymorphism patterns, with emphasis on rs11225307, in breast cancer versus benign fibroadenoma (FA) tissues among women in Basrah, Iraq. Thirty-seven BC and twenty-three FA patients were enrolled. Purpose of Review: Repetitive head impacts (RHI)—repeated head trauma that may or may not result in clinically identified injury—are a growing public health concern due to links with neurodegenerative disease and long-term dysfunction. This review aimed to synthesize current knowledge of RHI and evaluate methodological challenges that limit conclusions about its clinical consequences. Recent Findings: Emerging studies highlight associations between RHI and cognitive, emotional, and functional outcomes across vulnerable populations including athletes, military personnel, and survivors of intimate partner violence.
