Background/aim: Crohn's disease (CD) is a kind of inflammatory bowel disease. Midkine (MDK) is an endogenous inflammatory marker. We aimed to investigate the relationship between MDK levels and inflammation and hence determine whether MDK can be used as a noninvasive biomarker in active CD. Propofol provides adequate sedation and amnesia at subhypnotic doses, but safe guarding the patient's airway is important for preventing respiratory depression or hypoxic events. Background/aim: Tumour budding (BD) is considered a valuable prognostic factor in colon cancer (CC), but its use in daily practice is uncertain. We investigated the prognostic effect of BD using preoperative biopsy specimens in a fairly homogeneous population. Background/aim: Malnutrition is an important and commonly seen prognostic factor in patients with cirrhosis. The diagnosis of malnutrition in cirrhosis patients may be challenging, and an easily measured and widely usable marker is lacking. Prealbumin, however, is an easily measured marker. In the current study we measured prealbumin levels in cirrhotic patients with no clinically apparent malnutrition and used it as a malnutrition marker. Background/aim: Basal level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), and antral follicle count are used as predictors of ovarian reserve before starting ovulation induction. We aimed to investigate the predictor potential of early follicular phase FSH/LH ratio on controlled ovarian hyperstimulation-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (COH-ICSI) cycle outcomes. Materials and methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted with 648 COH-ICSI cycles performed between 2012 and 2014. Cycles were classified according to their basal FSH/LH ratio, group 1(G1) = FSH/LH ratio < 2, N = 473 and group 2(G2) = FSH/LH ratio ∠ 2, N = 175. Demographic characteristics and stimulation parameters were evaluated. Retrieved total oocyte count (TOC), mature oocyte count (MOC), transferred embryo number, and pregnancy results were obtained and transferred to computer by SPSS 21.0 programme. Results: TOC and MOC of G1 were significantly higher than those of G2. The total gonadotrophin doses of G2 were significantly higher than G1. There was no significant difference between groups for transferred embryo number. Pregnancy and live birth rates were similar in both groups. Conclusion: In our population, increased FSH/LH ratio did not affect the rates of pregnancy and live birth negatively.

Background/aim: We aimed to investigate the role of Shearwave Elastography (SWE) in the evaluation of response to uterine artery embolization (UAE) in patients with uterine leiomyomas. Materials and methods: SWE images of the dominant uterin leiomyomas were obtained before and 1.5 months after performing UAE in 33 women suffering from symptoms due to leiomyomas (menometrorrhagia, bulk related symptoms, pelvic pain). Background/aim: Oral corticosteroid (OCS)-dependent severe eosinophilic asthma with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (SEACRSwNP) would be a suitable phenotype for mepolizumab treatment. This study evaluated the short-term efficacy of mepolizumab treatment in OCS-dependent SEA-CRSwNP. Background/aim: To adapt the Sunnybrook facial grading system (SFGS) into Turkish and perform validation and reliability studies on the Turkish version. Materials and Methods: The original English version of the SFGS was translated into Turkish by performing a linguistic validity study based on international standards. Background/aim: To investigate the correlation between the Glasgow-Blatchford score, shock index, and Forrest classification in patients with peptic ulcer bleeding (PUB). Materials and methods: A total of 955 patients with PUB were assessed using the Glasgow-Blatchford score and shock index, as well as the Forrest classification based on their gastroscopy results. The correlation between the Glasgow-Blatchford score and shock index was determined using scatter plot analysis, and the correlation between the Glasgow-Blatchford score or shock index and Forrest classification was determined using Spearman's analysis. Background/aim: This study aimed to evaluate the demographic, clinical, angiographic and prognostic characteristics of Takayasu arteritis (TA) in Iran. Materials and methods: A total of 75 patients with TA based on the American College of Rheumatology 1990 criteria for TA classification referred to the Rheumatology Centres, were followed-up from 1989 to 2019.
