The aim of this capstone project was to identify education and training needs for family caregivers of individuals living with dementia and create an educational workshop based on these identified needs. This workshop is a dementia training course focused on education on the dementia diagnosis and effective care strategies to promote occupational participation and safety for the care recipient and the caregiver. The aim is to improve care competency, reduce stress, and facilitate role transition.

Our study showed that an educational workshop using a cadaveric specimen is effective in improving resident physicians’ confidence in performing ultrasound-guided, as well as landmark-based, joint injections. Participants also reported a strong interest in future cadaveric workshops on ultrasound-guided joint injections and believe such workshops would be a valuable educational resource for other physicians. Implementing cadaver-based ultrasound-guided joint injection workshops similar to the one discussed in this manuscript could be used to supplement training for these procedures in medical education and provide residents with the early experience they need to be able to perform these injections independently in clinic settings.

BACKGROUND: To date, real-world evidence on persistence to anti-calcitonin gene-related peptide (anti-CGRP) monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) or onabotulinumtoxinA have excluded eptinezumab. This retrospective cohort study was performed to compare treatment persistency among patients with migraine on anti-CGRP mAbs (erenumab, fremanezumab, galcanezumab, or eptinezumab) or onabotulinumtoxinA.

METHODS: This retrospective study used IQVIA PharmMetrics data. Women who experience pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) often do not understand that what they are experiencing can be managed through rehabilitation (Chen et al., 2019). This capstone project aimed to educate women about the pelvic floor and pelvic floor dysfunction as a proactive approach to rehabilitation. For clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), lipid deposition plays important roles in the development, metastasis, and drug resistance. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying lipid deposition in ccRCC remain largely unknown. By conducting an unbiased CRISPR-Cas9 screening, we identified the epigenetic regulator plant homeodomain finger protein 8 (PHF8) as an important regulator in ccRCC lipid deposition. Moreover, PHF8 is regulated by von Hippel-Lindau (VHL)/hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) axis and essential for VHL deficiency-induced lipid deposition. PHF8 transcriptionally up-regulates glutamate-ammonia ligase (GLUL), which promotes the lipid deposition and ccRCC progression. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive inherited type of muscular dystrophy that results in progressive muscle weakness and requires a multidisciplinary approach for disease management. Occupational Therapy (OT) services are extremely valuable to this population as individuals diagnosed with this condition face significant difficulty in areas of occupational performance. Research shows occupational therapy services are not being received consistently and there are disparities in services received leaving a gap in the literature about the referral process and the understanding of OT's role.

Resting heart rate is associated with cardiovascular diseases and mortality in observational and Mendelian randomization studies. The aims of this study are to extend the number of resting heart rate associated genetic variants and to obtain further insights in resting heart rate biology and its clinical consequences. A genome-wide meta-analysis of 100 studies in up to 835,465 individuals reveals 493 independent genetic variants in 352 loci, including 68 genetic variants outside previously identified resting heart rate associated loci. We prioritize 670 genes and in silico annotations point to their enrichment in cardiomyocytes and provide insights in their ECG signature. Two-sample …

Background: The setting of this project took place in a small 100-bed community hospital that is a part of a larger healthcare organization in Northern California. The focus of the project was the implementation of standardized education for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) to lead to an outcome of decreased readmissions. Readmissions to hospitals are costly and effective discharge planning can impact and decrease readmissions.

Problem: The facility in which this project took place has 35 readmissions a year for CHF. It is the third highest DRG and reason for readmissions in 2022. Although there is work in place …

Background: The medical center’s Maternal Child Health Department comprises 10 labor and delivery beds, 22 postpartum beds, and a 16-bed Level II NICU. The unit is overseen by six ANMs, a manager, and a director. The unit comprises approximately 160 employees, most being bedside registered nurses (RNs). The hospital prioritizes achieving Magnet status, where nurse job satisfaction is prioritized. The concern is that the department’s culture is not aligning with Magnet guidelines due to a lack of leadership within the unit.

In this study, we systematically examine the conformational dynamics, binding and allosteric communications in the Omicron BA.1, BA.2, BA.3 and BA.4/BA.5 spike protein complexes with the ACE2 host receptor using molecular dynamics simulations and perturbation-based network profiling approaches. Microsecond atomistic simulations provided a detailed characterization of the conformational landscapes and revealed the increased thermodynamic stabilization of the BA.2 variant which can be contrasted with the BA.4/BA.5 variants inducing a significant mobility of the complexes. Using the dynamics-based mutational scanning of spike residues, we identified structural stability and binding affinity hotspots in the Omicron complexes.
