We investigate the reassembly techniques for utilizing fine graphite particles, smaller than 5 µm, as high-efficiency, high-rate anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Fine graphite particles of two sizes (0.4-1.2 µm and 5 µm) are utilized, and the mixing ratio of the two particles is varied to control the porosity of the assembled graphite. The packing characteristics of the assembled graphite change based on the mixing ratio of the two types of fine graphite particles, forming assembled graphite with varying porosities. Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are tightly controlled to maintain a balance between blood cell production and self-renewal. While inflammation-related signaling is a critical regulator of HSC activity, the underlying mechanisms and the precise functions of specific factors under steady-state and stress conditions remain incompletely understood. We investigated the role of interferon regulatory factor 1 (IRF1), a transcription factor that is affected by multiple inflammatory stimuli, in HSC regulation. Our findings demonstrate that the loss of IRF1 from mouse HSCs significantly impairs self-renewal, increases stress-induced proliferation, and confers resistance to apoptosis. The first step in gene expression is the transcription of DNA sequences into RNA. Regulation at the level of transcription leads to changes in steady-state concentrations of RNA transcripts, affecting the flux of downstream functions and ultimately cellular phenotypes. Changes in transcript levels are routinely followed in cellular contexts via genome-wide sequencing techniques. However, in vitro mechanistic studies of transcription have lagged with respect to throughput. BACKGROUND: Anxiety and depression are common among older adults and can intensify during perioperative periods, but few mental health interventions are designed for older surgical patients' unique needs. As part of the feasibility trial, we developed and adapted a perioperative mental health (PMH) bundle for older patients comprised of behavioral activation (BA) and medication optimization (MO) to ameliorate anxiety and depressive symptoms before, during, and after cardiac, orthopedic, and oncologic surgery.

BACKGROUND: Humeral avulsion of the glenohumeral ligament (HAGL) lesions are an uncommon cause of anterior glenohumeral instability and may occur in isolation or combination with other pathologies. As HAGL lesions are difficult to detect via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and arthroscopy, they can remain unrecognized and result in continued glenohumeral instability.

PURPOSE: To compare patients with anterior shoulder instability from a large multicenter cohort with and without a diagnosis of a HAGL lesion and identify preoperative physical examination findings, patient-reported outcomes, imaging findings, and surgical management trends associated with HAGL lesions.

Nitrous oxide is an inexpensive and fast-acting gas used in a variety of inpatient and outpatient perioperative settings to hasten the onset of and emergence from general anesthesia. From 2022-2023, a 28-bed cardiac care intensive unit (CICU) employing 120 Registered Nurses (RNs) hired 63 RNs, including 3 new graduates and 32 new-to-specialty, following significant turnover. Nurses in the CICU frequently face complex situations, leading to emotional distress and potential turnover if coping resources are not provided. Research suggests that pairing a new CICU nurse with an experienced mentor to help cope with complex situations can significantly increase confidence and resiliency and reduce emotional distress and turnover. STEPS stands for Seniors using Technology to Engage in Pain Self-management. We are testing to see if a pain self-management program can help people live better with chronic pain and reduce pain’s impact on their lives. Participants will: Complete three 60-minute telephone surveys Baseline, 2-month follow-up, and 12-month follow-up. Be randomly placed into one of two groups (50/50 chance): Intervention Group: A 7-week program with web-based videos and weekly telephone sessions led by a Community Health Worker. Control Group: A control group that receives program materials & a half-day workshop after the final survey.
