Exceptionality Of Space: Sexual Violence In “The Camp. A Little Girl From Karabakh” By Gunel Movlud, Eva Lennartz
Exceptionality Of Space: Sexual Violence In “The Camp. A Little Girl From Karabakh” By Gunel Movlud, Eva Lennartz
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
In the autobiographical novel “The Camp. A Little Girl from Karabakh” the Azerbaijani author Gunel Movlud describes her experiences of living in a refugee camp in the Sabirabad region of Azerbaijan. Movlud was forced to flee her home town in the Nagorno-Karabakh region during the First Karabakh War(1988-1994). For five years, she lived in the tent camp. In the novel, Movlud describes the hardships of the life in the camp and different characters from her personal perspective. What is striking from her observations is the amount of sexual violence apparent in the camp and the seemingly tacit acceptance of the …
A Rare Case Of Breast Carcinoma Metastasis Into A Meningioma In A 64-Year-Old Female Patient, Edwin Mogere, Miriam Mutebi, Allan Njau, Manel Haj Mansour
A Rare Case Of Breast Carcinoma Metastasis Into A Meningioma In A 64-Year-Old Female Patient, Edwin Mogere, Miriam Mutebi, Allan Njau, Manel Haj Mansour
General Surgery, East Africa
This report discusses the occurrence of tumor-to-tumor metastasis—an atypical phenomenon in oncology where a secondary malignancy develops within an existing primary tumor. The case of a 64-year-old woman is presented, who, with a history of stage II invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast treated with mastectomy and chemoradiotherapy, developed neurological symptoms indicative of a secondary brain tumor. MRI and subsequent histopathological analysis post-craniotomy confirmed a meningioma with a metastatic breast carcinoma, demonstrating the clinical importance of considering tumor-to-tumor metastasis in similar patient histories.

Dietitian & Physician Preferences Of Fiber Use In Enteral Nutrition: A Pilot Study, Holly Gauthun, Thy Pham, Cory Gheen, Liang Ji, Edward Bitok, Susie Ray
Loma Linda University Research Reports
This pilot study examines the beliefs and preferences regarding fiber use in enteral nutrition (EN) among physicians and registered dietitians (RDs) for hemodynamically stable critically ill patients. A total of 30 RDs and 12 physicians participated. The majority of both physicians (80%) and RDs (83%) supported fiber use in EN for these patients. All participants with over ten years of experience and all Certified Nutrition Support Clinicians (CNSCs) endorsed fiber use. Despite expectations, no significant difference in support was found between RDs and physicians. The study reveals a noteworthy shift towards endorsing fiber use in enteral nutrition for hemodynamically stable …

Effects Of Intuitive Eating Principles And Magnesium Glycinate On Quality Of Life, Body Satisfaction, And Stress In Early- And Middle-Aged Adults, Numydia Cotry, Taylor Kalinowski, Angel Wilensky
Loma Linda University Research Reports
This study investigated the impact of combining Intuitive Eating (IE) principles with magnesium glycinate supplementation on adults aged 18 to 49. Participants were split into two groups: one practicing IE alone and another receiving magnesium supplementation alongside IE. Results showed significant improvements in body satisfaction, stress levels, and overall health among those receiving magnesium. Qualitative data indicated enhanced body awareness and well-being with IE. This suggests a promising synergy between IE and magnesium supplementation for better health and quality of life. However, further research with larger samples and longer durations is warranted.

How Phonological And Syntactic Overlap Impact Cognate Processing Speeds In Bilinguals, Ella Marie Peterson
How Phonological And Syntactic Overlap Impact Cognate Processing Speeds In Bilinguals, Ella Marie Peterson
Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts
This paper investigates individuals who are proficient in two languages (bilinguals) and the speeds at which bilinguals process cognates (words with comparable form and meaning across languages). This paper cites two ongoing experiments: The Language Identification (LID) task and the Self-Paced Listening (SPL) task. Findings from the LID suggest that phonological overlap in cognates facilitates bilingual language processing speeds, when cognates are presented in isolation. Findings from the SPL suggest that syntactic overlap in cognates also facilitates bilingual language processing speeds, when cognates are presented in sentences. These findings are significant in that the tasks present cognates to participants in …

In Silico Identifcation Of New Potential Inhibitors Of Quorum Sensing By Gram‑Positive Bacteria Through Specialized Molecular Docking, Amgad Albohy, Najla A. Obaid, Mariam Mojally, Mohammed Abou Rehab, Najd Ahmad Alkhudhir
Pharmacy
Quorum sensing is the process by which bacterial cells can communicate by producing substances to regulate viable processes such as gene expression, virulence, and bioflm formation. Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis have specifc enzymes (autoinducers) that control the quorum sensing system. Sortase A is a surface protein that regulates virulence and cell‒cell communication in Gram-positive bacteria. To interfere with this system and reduce virulence and cell‒cell communication, quorum sensing inhibitors are used, which are nonantibiotic substances. In this study, we aimed to use Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs (analgesics and antipsychotics) and investigate their activity using …
Chemical Synthesis And Biological Application Of Sensitive Rna, Alexander T. Apostle
Chemical Synthesis And Biological Application Of Sensitive Rna, Alexander T. Apostle
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
In the field of epigenetics - the dynamic collection of chemical modifications that overlay DNA/RNA - there is increasing interest in the potential for therapeutic and research-based utilization of the epitranscriptomics: those epigenetic modifications specific to RNA. Epitranscriptomics can give us a new approach to understanding and treating RNA viruses, like SARS-CoV-2. Given viruses are often found modified by human epitranscriptomic machinery, understanding how these modifications can modulate virulence is of high interest. We have shown that the N1-methyladensoine modification causes RNA synthesis termination in the SARS-CoV-2 replication complex, and thus may explain the differences in symptoms observed in individuals. …

Development Of New Radiotracers For Positron Emission Tomography Targeting C-X-C Chemokine Receptor Type 4 In Cancers, Piyapan Suwattananuruk
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study aimed to develop novel positron emission tomography (PET) tracers for C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) imaging. [68Ga]Ga-TD-01 and [18F]PICO-F were designed as PET tracers based on the molecular scaffolds of two potent CXCR4 antagonists, TIQ15 and PICO. TIQ15 was used to prepare a bifunctional (BFC) to facilitate 68Ga-labeling while structural modification of PICO was made to obtain a precursor, PICO-Br for 18F-labeling. The BFC, TD-01 was obtained in a moderately high yield (61%) via the conjugation of TIQ15 with a chelator derivative and successfully radiolabeled with 68Ga to yield [68Ga]Ga-TD-01, a PET tracer. For 18F-based tracer, the …
Improving Empathy With Simulation: A Quality Improvement Project, Jami Layne
Improving Empathy With Simulation: A Quality Improvement Project, Jami Layne
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
This study examines the effectiveness of simulation-based training in enhancing empathy levels among undergraduate nursing students. A lack of empathy can negatively impact the healthcare outcomes of patients (Levett-Jones et al., 2019). Type I Diabetes, among the ten greatest causes of mortality worldwide, is estimated to afflict 642 million individuals by 2040. It is an auto-immune illness brought on by an association of environmental and genetic variables. that cause T lymphocytes to destroy insulin-producing β-cells. Its prevalence continues to rise by 3-4% annually worldwide, enhancing the risk of mortality. So, the idea of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is widely established, and systemic treatment is essential. RAGEs are linked to inflammatory disorders that exist in a variety of TID-related cells; especially T cells. Variations in circulating RAGE concentrations have been linked to a …
