Education Of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Prevention In Adult Intensive Care Patients, Carlin Morgan

The purpose of this project was to improve knowledge related to evidence-based ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) preventative measures that decrease the prevalence of VAP in adult patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). An educational presentation was provided to twelve critical care nurses at a 349-bed hospital in western Kentucky. A pretest was obtained to measure the nurse’s knowledge prior to the presentation. A PowerPoint and pamphlet containing VAP prevention techniques were presented to the twelve critical care nurses during each meeting. A posttest was then administered after the presentation to measure the efficacy of the educational presentation. The mean of …

Case Description: Gentrification-associated policies implemented by other states and cities were evaluated to assess feasibility to adoption in New Orleans. Background: Louisiana identified its first COVID-19 outbreak in a religious service, or place of worship for faith-based communities, in March 2020. Background: Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell therapy is a type of immunotherapy designed to treat relapsed/refractory hematologic malignancies such non-Hodgkin B-Cell Lymphoma, B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and Multiple Myeloma. CAR T toxicities such as cytokine release syndrome, immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome and post-infusion cytopenias pose major challenges to the regimen. Abstract: Stigma and discrimination may result in poorer health literacy, negative health outcomes, and increased morbidity from other chronic diseases in PWH. We created a multidisciplinary team to study stigma, health behaviors, and outcomes in PWH in Louisiana. The team HIV clinics in three cities; New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport, forming the Louisiana Translational Collaborative on Health Behaviors [LATCH]. We hypothesized that PWH who report increased stigma would have lower health literacy and more comorbidities.

Retention of advanced practice providers (APPs) is needed for ongoing high quality comprehensive care. Administrators at a large urban pediatric institute in the Midwest identified turnover and retention as an issue for APPs in the first one to two years of service. Even in years when turnover rates were not as high, the greatest number of APPs leaving the institution where those in their first five years of tenure. Sexual activity and intimacy are meaningful occupations for many individuals, regardless of ability. According to the OTPF-4, sexual activity and intimacy are activities of daily living. It is also a right for persons to have access to engage in meaningful activities. However, there is significant information reported that individuals with spinal cord injuries are not receiving sufficient, or any, information for returning to sexual activity during occupational therapy treatment. A program manual, educational materials, and handouts were designed for those with spinal cord injuries seeking to return to the ADL of sexual activity and intimacy upon discharge from inpatient rehabilitation.

Investigating How Children With Autism Respond To Virtual Environments, Mykaela Naragon

Over 90% of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder face sensory processing challenges. Virtual environments can trigger adaptive sensory responses akin to real-world experiences. This preliminary study explored how students with autism interact within virtual settings. Conducted at Julie Billiart Schools, where over 75% of students have autism and sensory differences, the project involved 35 participants aged 6-14 in six VR sessions. Data on Zones of Regulation, affect, and behaviors were collected. Results showed VR was enjoyable, with highly significant post-VR changes in Zone of Regulation (p<0.001). This suggests VR holds promise as a therapeutic tool for self-regulation in children with ASD.

This capstone involved conducting an in-depth needs assessment of the mental health resources in the Athletics Department at Cleveland State University. There was a collaboration with the Student-Athlete Academic Services staff and the Athletics Counselor to provide mental health resources reported to be needed by the student-athletes (SAs). This population can benefit from occupational therapy intervention as occupational therapists are educated on mental health practices.
