Racial misclassification is a persistent issue among American Indian and Alaskan Natives who are grossly misrepresented in death. Training is needed for those who report race on death certificates (i.e., funeral directors) so that health and mortality data is accurately reported. An environmental scan of existing resources, literature, and training opportunities was completed in order to understand the current knowledge as well as gaps in racial reporting on death certificates. Racial misclassification is a major barrier to accurate health data for AI/AN populations. Nothing is more important in the work lives of employees of human service organizations than job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is fundamental to employee welfare, organizational sustainability, and welfare services. The study aims to provide an overview of the influence of work life balance and burnout on the level of job satisfaction of employees of humanitarian service organizations. The study results using the Somers’D test partially proved the hypothesis that there is a positive and significant influence of work life balance on job satisfaction of 0.571 and a p-value of 0.000, stating that employees with high work life balance tend to …

Background

Smoking is the leading behavioural risk factor for mortality globally, accounting for more than 175 million deaths and nearly 4·30 billion years of life lost (YLLs) from 1990 to 2021. The pace of decline in smoking prevalence has slowed in recent years for many countries, and although strategies have recently been proposed to achieve tobacco-free generations, none have been implemented to date. Assessing what could happen if current trends in smoking prevalence persist, and what could happen if additional smoking prevalence reductions occur, is important for communicating the effect of potential smoking policies.

In September of 2023, a middle school teacher wrote an open letter to the Lexington County, Virginia school board expressing outrage over the “graphic sexual content” included in the county middle school’s library. Swiftly following the letter, the school board removed two books from the county’s Lylburn Middle School library without due process and avowed to reconsider the guidelines for including books in the library. One of the two books in question was It’s Perfectly Normal, a non-fiction illustrated book intended to educate readers ten and up on sex, intercourse, and puberty. Importance: 1 in 5 children in the US have a mental health disorder (Larson et al., 2017) which affects health across the lifespan, including engagement in school and play (Rizvi et al., 2024).

Two rehydration protocols currently exist to treat diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in pediatric patients aged"one-bag" system and the more recent "two-bag" system. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the newer two-bag system versus the well-established one-bag system. The CiNAHL, Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were comprehensively searched from inception to June 2023 by 2 independent reviewers using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis framework. BACKGROUND: Advances in plasma biomarkers to detect Alzheimer’s disease (AD) biology allows researchers to improve the efficiency of participant recruitment into preclinical trials. Recently, protein levels of plasma amyloid-beta and tau proteins have been shown to be predictive of elevated amyloid in brain. Online registries, such as the Alzheimer’s Prevention Trials (APT) Webstudy, include and follow participants using remote assessments to facilitate efficient screening and enrollment of large numbers of individuals who may be at higher risk for AD.

Objectives: Hepatic CEACAM1 expression declines with advanced hepatic fibrosis stage in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Global and hepatocyte-specific deletions of Ceacam1 impair insulin clearance to cause hepatic insulin resistance and steatosis. They also cause hepatic inflammation and fibrosis, a condition characterized by excessive collagen production from activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Given the positive effect of PPARg on CEACAM1 transcription and on HSCs quiescence, the current studies investigated whether CEACAM1 loss from HSCs causes their activation.

Colchicine binding site inhibitors (CBSIs) are an emerging class of microtubule-targeting agents (MTAs) with promising potential for cancer therapy. Traditional MTAs like paclitaxel, docetaxel, and Cabazitaxel, are three FDA-approved taxanes for treating various cancers. Acquired chemoresistance and toxicities caused by chemotherapy are some of the main barriers that limit their clinical outcomes. More effective novel agents and therapeutic strategies are needed to overcome these challenges. This project examines the landscape of available scholarship and identifies key concepts, frameworks, and mechanisms that have been developed and are central to the creation of partnerships between Tribal and state public health professionals. Objective: The management of Pulmonary Atresia and Ventricular Septal Defect (PA/VSD) without Major Aortopulmonary Collaterals (MAPCAs) is variable. This study aims to describe the practice patterns, choice of interventions, and outcomes of patients treated using various surgical strategies. Methods: Data from the Public Health Information System (PHIS) database was analyzed for patients with a diagnosis of PA/VSD without MAPCAs who followed a two-ventricle strategy between 2003 and 2023. Patients were categorized based on the initial surgical approach into four groups: single-stage early repair, ductal stent, systemic to pulmonary artery shunt, and right ventricle to pulmonary artery (RV-PA) connection.
