This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project involved the development and implementation of a staff education program to enhance the use of the Dynamic Appraisal of Situational Aggression (DASA) tool. The aim of the project was to address the inconsistent and inaccurate applications of the DASA tool by health staff, leading to missed opportunities for early intervention to address patient aggression and increased risk of violence to both staff and patients. This paper examined the interaction between narrative performance, language exposure, and standardized measures of morphosyntax and semantics, in bilingual children tested two times, 1 year apart. We aimed to 1) identify the factor structure of oral narrative measures, and 2) examine the direction and strength of the effects of (i) language exposure and (ii) the relationship between language domains and narrative production. A total of 143 Spanish (L1)-English (L2) bilingual children completed a battery of oral narrative and oral language proficiency assessments in Spanish and English at two time points (kindergarten and Grade 1). Objective: To identify treatment research that used a behavioral approach to treat misophonia as the primary focus of treatment, and the audiological testing included in the research.

Design: Scoping literature review completed in February 2023 and updated in March 2024.

Study Sample: Included studies provided a behavioral or audiological intervention for misophonia, were peer-reviewed, and published in English before February 29, 2024. Studies were excluded if a pharmacological treatment was provided, if misophonia was not the primary treatment target, or if assessment of misophonia severity was not a treatment outcome.

Chronic pain affects over 20% of the global population and contributes to the vast burden of psychiatric illness. While effective treatments for chronic pain remain limited, both alcohol and cannabis have been used for centuries to manage pain and closely associated negative affective symptoms. However, persistent misuse of alcohol and/or cannabis in such a negative reinforcement fashion is hypothesized to increase the risk of severity of substance use disorders (SUDs). The current review describes neurobiological evidence for the analgesic efficacy of alcohol and primary cannabis constituents and how use or co-use of these substances may influence SUD risk.

The electroelastomer cylindrical actuators, a typical representation of soft actuators, have recently aroused increasing interest owing to their advantages in flexibility, deformability, and spatial utilization rate. Proprioception is crucial for controlling and monitoring the shape and position of these actuators. Objective: Public health approaches for addressing diet-related health in the United States (US) include nutrition incentive (NI) and produce prescription (PPR) projects. These projects, funded through the US Department of Agriculture Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), aim to support intake of fruits and vegetables through healthy food incentives. Measuring GusNIP impact is vital to assessing the ability of incentives to improve public health nutrition outcomes across populations. The avian respiratory system has been an area of biological interest for centuries, with zebra finches (Taeniopygia castanotis) emerging in recent decades as a primary avian model organism popularized across numerous disciplines. Black adolescents with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) face significant health disparities, yet their unique treatment journeys remain largely underreported. This phenomenological qualitative study explored the lived experiences of Black adolescents with T1DM. The study addressed two research questions examining how these individuals experience and navigate T1DM self-management, self-efficacy beliefs, and perceived barriers and facilitators to optimal self-care. Virtual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 Black adolescents with T1DM recruited from a pediatric hospital in Washington, DC. Drug discovery is a critical task in biomedical natural language processing (NLP), yet explainable drug discovery remains underexplored. Meanwhile, large language models (LLMs) have shown remarkable abilities in natural language understanding and generation. Leveraging LLMs for explainable drug discovery has the potential to improve downstream tasks and real-world applications. In this study, we utilize open-source drug knowledge graphs, clinical trial data, and PubMed publications to construct a comprehensive dataset for the explainable drug discovery task, named \textbf{expRxRec}. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons aged ≥6 months in the United States. Interim influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) was calculated among patients with acute respiratory illness-associated outpatient visits and hospitalizations from four VE networks during the 2024-25 influenza season (October 2024-February 2025). Among children and adolescents agedyears, VE against any influenza was 32%, 59%, and 60% in the outpatient setting in three networks, and against influenza-associated hospitalization was 63% and 78% in two networks. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-induced coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has challenged the current understanding of the complement cascade mechanisms of host immune responses during infection-induced nonresolvable lung disease. While the complement system is involved in opsonization and phagocytosis of the invading pathogens, uncontrolled complement activation also leads to aberrant autophagic response and tissue damage. Preliminary estimates indicate that receipt of the 2024–2025 influenza vaccine reduced the likelihood of medically attended influenza and influenza-associated hospitalization. CDC recommends annual receipt of an age-appropriate influenza vaccine by all eligible persons aged ≥6 months as long as influenza viruses continue to circulate locally.

In spring 2023, nursing faculty introduced a simulation experience in the sophomore Health Assessment course. This initiative aimed to enhance student learning outcomes and reduce anxiety related to clinical practice, based on current research which indicates early introduction to simulation has a positive impact on student anxiety in the clinical setting. The simulation served as a summative assessment, integrating key competencies such as patient data collection, therapeutic communication, vital signs assessment, and respiratory evaluation. Research problem: Recognizing failure in communication and teamwork as leading causes of sentinel events in patient care, the Department of Health and Human Services (2023) recommends utilizing standard scripts such as ISBARR and the newly developed IPASS for effective team communication. Study Design: Due to limited opportunity for interdisciplinary communication in the clinical setting, course faculty designed an alternative clinical experience using virtual simulation (VSIM). Students complete a medical-surgical VSIM independently and then participate in a faculty-guided small group experience to discuss rationale. A two-year curriculum evaluation was undertaken to guide development of a unique clinical curricular module focused on care coordination and transition management. The module, in place in the junior curriculum since 2015, had been modified through the years in response to changes in faculty, clinical partners, and department resources. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly limited student field experiences, requiring development of existing and new on-campus simulated learning experiences. BACKGROUND: Despite advancements in lung transplantation (LT), infection remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality following LT. We examined trends in hospitalizations for infection in the first year after LT.

METHODS: We identified adult LT recipients in the United States (March 1, 2018-March 9, 2023) using the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network database. To implement evidence-based health policy, public health researchers need to be equipped with the necessary skills or knowledge to engage with policymakers effectively. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of the Texas Research-to-Policy Collaboration (TX RPC) training on public health professionals and to compare the effectiveness of different training delivery modes (in-person or web-based). In the study, 59 researchers received training to increase their capacity for interacting with legislators and completed pre- and post-training surveys assessing three scales: self-efficacy, knowledge, and training needs. JC polyomavirus (JCV) causes progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in immunocompromised individuals and has been linked to cancer development. To-date, no information is available about the JCV seroprevalence in the healthy (nondiseased) population or whether this virus is ecologically connected to humans. The aim of this systematic literature review and meta-analysis was to the estimate the overall seroprevalence of JCV in the healthy human population by age, region, and testing method. A meta-analysis conducted on 24 studies revealed a pooled JCV seroprevalence of 60% (95% CI, 55% - 65%) with statistically significant effect size (z = 32.93, p < 0.001). Meta-regression and subgroup analyses with STATA18 showed that age and region had a strong positive predictive value on prevalence (R = .578, R2 = 0.334, F(2,52) = 12.543, p < 0.001) whereas the testing method had no significant effect on prevalence. The theories that grounded this study were the ecological model and the systems theory, which support the study result that JCV appears to be ubiquitous in the human population with JCV being acquired very early in life. The results of the systematic literature review indicated that JCV is transmitted via fecal-oral and respiratory routes within and outside of families. Most infants are infected with JCV by the age of 6 months and JCV seronegativity may not be indicative of a lack of an underlying JCV infection. JCV seropositivity increases with age, which is most probably by viral reactivation due to immune senescence. These findings have positive social change implications with JCV treatment, screening, and vaccine development.

Current scholarly literature has asserted that large non-profit organizations benefit from conducting fundraising-activity audit portfolio analyses. However, suitable techniques and tools that ultra-small nonprofits (990N-sized charities) can use to improve their fundraising-activity analyses have not been clearly established. The research problem was in modifying tools that work efficiently for hyper-localized charities to compare the effectiveness of their fundraising-activities. Preferred tools were needed to reinforce ideation and align improvements within the charities’ known constraints.
