The Bella Vista Hospital has had problems of staffing since it opened. Nurse shortages have been typical of all insular hospitals. There have been no national Seventh-day Adventist nurses available and no school where they could receive nursing education. The question has been raised whether it would be feasible to establish a school of nursing in connection with the hospital. This would give opportunity for Seventh-day Adventist young people who seek nursing education and would help prepare nurses to staff the hospital.

Assuming that the performance of duties not specifically on the head nurse level detract from her effectiveness as a head nurse, the problem of this study was to determine what proportion of time the head nurse spent in different activities, on what level of skill these activities were, where she performed them, with whom, and the duration of each activity.

It was the purpose of this study to identify, classify, and list bibliographical material which is applicable and would serve as a source of information to those preparing for, and directing others towards, overseas mission nursing.

This study was conducted to find out if Paradise Valley School of Nursing is meeting certain specified objectives and to gather information which could help in future curriculum planning to better meet the needs of the students.

The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from graduates of the 1950-1957 classes. This group comprised those graduating from the three-year diploma program. A questionnaire was mailed to 149 graduates of which 124 responded.

The study shows that:

Rehmannia glutinosa, Atractylus ovata, and Polygonatum chinense have all been employed by the Chinese as oral antidiabetic agents and reported by Min (1928), Kin (1931), and Li et al. (1936) to possess hypoglycemic activity. This prompted the pharmacological studies of these herbs.

Materials and methods. Their pharmacognosy was condensed from all available Chinese and scientific literature. Preliminary chemical and physical analyses included determinations for moisture, ash, crude fat, carbohydrates, protein, phosphorus, pH, alkaloids, melting point, and spectroscopy. Employing the Somogyi-Nelson method, their glycemic activity was studied in rats, rabbits, and dogs. Stress reactions were minimized. The effect …

Statement of the Problem: the purpose of this study was to find out the current faculty-student ratio in the medical-surgical area in collegiate school of nursing which were fully accredited by the National League for Nursing and the number of students with which instructors felt comfortable in their clinical instructions.

Method: the descriptive survey method with a questionnaire was used to collect data from the study. Eighty-six instructors returned the questionnaire.

The problem of this study was to develop an evaluation form to measure the differentiation in quality of nursing care given by professional staff nurses. It was hoped that the evaluation form could be used by administrators of nursing service as a basis for giving pay increases based on nursing performance.

A review of nursing literature did not reveal the existence of an evaluation form based on verifiable data of performance upon which an objective evaluation could be made.

This study is an attempt to determine the nature and relative frequency of the articulation errors shown by one hundred school children with lisps.

The Importance of Investigating the Phenomenon of Defective Articulation

The incidence of speech defects in the child population has been found to range from five percent (5%) to ten percent (10%) of the total child population. A child's speech is considered defective when the listener gives as much or more attention to the manner in which the child speaks as he does to the idea being communicated.

The study was conducted in an attempt to identify incidents threatening the safety of patients in the care of operating room personnel and to classify them for use in teaching safety in operating room nursing.

Literature was reviewed to find concepts of safety and to aid in classification of safety hazards which are applicable to hospital patient safety. Need was shown for safe working conditions and for personnel with attitudes of safety as well as skills and knowledge. The purposes of this study were (1) to ascertain if the three year program in nursing at the Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing was preparing students for professional activities as well as did the four year program, and (2) to obtain information for use in curriculum planning.
