Cutibacterium acnesis a gram-positive anaerobic bacillus which is commonly found in the sebaceous glands of the skin generally in the axilla, chest and back regions1,2.

Shoulder infections have been reported to occur at 3.4% following arthroscopic or open shoulder surgeries, where they are most commonly due to C. acnes3,4.

This case report demonstrates a unique case and management of a subclinical presentation of confirmed C. acnes infection.

The current study investigated the coping mechanisms employed by older formerly incarcerated individuals during reentry. While there is research on the reentry experiences of older formerly incarcerated individuals, less is known about how they cope with the strains of reentry. As such, this study fills this gap in the literature by exploring both adaptive and maladaptive coping mechanisms employed by this population during reentry. Using in-depth interviews with 20 older, formerly incarcerated individuals, I found that older formerly incarcerated persons experienced challenges related to securing stable housing, finding employment and economic security, community supervision, stigma and judgment, and overall reintegration. …

The Achilles tendon consists of the soleus muscle and two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle. Loss of its function can result in loss of plantarflexion strength, which can impact activities of daily living. In a study by Scheller et al, Achilles tendon ruptures were missed on initial evaluation on 25% of their patients. Other studies have reported a similar incidence of misdiagnoses. Patients may also delay treatment due to decreased pain after the initial injury. Here, we highlight a case of an Indian woman on immune-modulating drugs who presented with severe laryngeal symptoms initially presumed to be laryngeal candidiasis but was later discovered to be laryngeal tuberculosis.

African American adults aged 18 and older are disproportionately impacted by tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. Same-day discharge THA has been further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the removal of THA from the Medicare inpatient only list. This study sought to evaluate risk factors for readmission following same-day discharge THA. Summary The type of project was a staff education designed to increase staff knowledge through the implementation of an evidence-based fall prevention program tailored to an acute inpatient crisis stabilization unit. The practice problem was a lack of standardization in fall prevention. The project question was the following: Does staff education on fall prevention measures increase staff knowledge in an acute crisis stabilization unit? Black/African American women face significant health disparities in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) due to systemic barriers to genetic counseling and testing, leading to poorer survival outcomes. Guided by the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) framework and Intersectionality Theory, this quantitative descriptive study examined disparities in access to genetic services, socioeconomic barriers, and healthcare biases. Data from the 2023 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) included 1,357 Black/African American and White women aged 25–65 with a family history of HBOC. IMPORTANCE Evidence-based, patient-centered treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD) can include pharmacotherapy with naltrexone, acamprosate, or disulfiram; however, these medications are rarely used. Medicaid managed care plans (MCPs) manage health services for nearly 80% of Medicaid enrollees and are the largest payer for addiction treatment services. Little is known about Medicaid MCP policies for AUD medications.

Recently, the single-cone hydraulic canal filling technique using bioceramic sealers was found to hinder retreatment due to the mechanical properties of the bioceramic sealers. This study assessed the effectiveness of four nickel-titanium rotary files in removing gutta-percha and bioceramic sealer from molar root canals in vitro. Eighty-eight root canals from extracted molars were instrumented with Vortex Blue rotary files and filled with gutta-percha and bioceramic sealer using a single-cone technique. BACKGROUND: Many studies have evaluated the effect of preoperative disability status on functional outcomes following spine surgery. However, no research has compared the "value" (outcomes per dollar spent) of surgery for patients with different levels of diagnosis-specific disability.

METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 429 patients who underwent neurosurgical anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Outcomes are poor in patients with higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (HR MDS) and frontline treatment options are limited. This phase 1b study investigated safety and efficacy of venetoclax, a selective B-cell lymphoma 2 inhibitor, at the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D; 400 mg for 14 days per 28-day cycle), in combination with azacitidine (75 mg/m2 for 7 days per 28-day cycle) for treatment-naive HR MDS. Purpose: To develop deep learning models for predicting the pathologic complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST) in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) based on pretreatment multiparametric breast MRI and clinicopathological data.

Methods: The prospective institutional review board-approved study [NCT02276443] included 282 patients with stage I-III TNBC who had multiparametric breast MRI at baseline and underwent NAST and surgery during 2016-2021.
