Dietary nitrate supplementation has been reported to enhance explosive-type movements, but our understanding of the ergogenic potential of nitrate in resistance exercise and women is understudied. PURPOSE: To investigate if dietary nitrate, provided as nitrate-rich beetroot juice (BR), improved resistance exercise performance compared to nitrate-depleted beetroot juice (PL) in resistance-trained women. METHODS: Eighteen resistance-trained women were assigned in a randomized, double-blind, crossover design to consume PL (0.10 mmol nitrate) and BR (6 mmol of nitrate) 2.5 h prior to performing barbell back squats and bench press at 55% one-repetition max (1RM), 60%1RM, and 65%1RM. Fear-related disorders are often treated with exposure therapy, a technique based on the concept of extinction. However, this type of therapy is ineffective for many individuals, so finding a pharmacological adjunct that augments the extinction of fear could lead to better treatment outcomes. In recent preclinical work, investigators have shown that psychedelics can accelerate the extinction of fear, potentially through their impact on neurotrophic signaling. We previously found that psilocybin exerted sex-dependent effects on the extinction of conditioned fear to an isolated cue (i.e., a tone). Resting blood pressures and heart rates are common pre-participation cardiovascular measurements in college athletes. Athletes in the NCAA’s Division III comprise nearly 40% of all participants in college athletics. Despite the large number of athletes participating in Division III athletics, few studies have examined resting pre-participation cardiovascular measurements in male and female Division III athletes.

Problem: Effective pain management in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is crucial for patient recovery and satisfaction. Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps are commonly used to manage post-surgical pain, allowing patients to self-administer analgesics within prescribed limits. However, confusion about dosing intervals and uncertainty about when the next dose can be administered may lead to anxiety and dissatisfaction among patients. The relationship between sleep and quality of life has been extensively studied. Previous research suggests that even one night of sleep deprivation negatively impacts cognitive ability and stress levels. In this study, physiological stress markers—heart rate (bpm), blood pressure (systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressure), respiratory rate (rpm), and oxygen saturation (%)—were measured while participants rested. Cognitive function was assessed using the Stroop color test. Twenty five healthy college students (ages 18-23, male and female) were grouped based on sleep duration (0-4, 4-6, and 7-9 hours), each group consisting of male and females. Optimal perioperative management is essential for enhancing postoperative recovery, minimizing complications, and supporting early discharge. Spinal anesthesia, particularly with long-acting agents like bupivacaine, is commonly used; however, it may lead to prolonged motor blockade and postoperative urinary retention (POUR), impacting recovery.
