Vascular rings represent a heterogeneous set of aberrant great vessel anatomic configurations which can cause respiratory symptoms or dysphagia due to tracheal or oesophageal compression. These symptoms can be subtle and may present at varied ages. More recently, many have been identified in patients without symptoms, including fetal echocardiogram, resulting in a conundrum for practitioners when attempting to determine who will benefit from surgical correction. Here, we provide a review of vascular rings and a guide to the practitioner on when to consider additional imaging or referral. Additionally, we discuss the changing landscape regarding asymptomatic patients and fetal echocardiogram.

OBJECTIVE: To provide a comprehensive overview of the American Urological Association Medical Student Surveys and includes data 2022, 2023, and 2024.

METHODS: Data collected through surveys distributed prior to match day and were distributed to all medical students who submitted a rank list for urology residency. Questions consisted of various topics, including applicant demographics, application metrics, and experiences with preference signals and virtual interviews.

RESULTS: 440 (79%), 428 (84%), and 387 (77%) applicants participated in surveys for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively. Applicants continue to participate in research at a high level. Additionally, United States Medical Licensing Exam …

Substance use disorders (SUDs) pose a significant public health concern. Preliminary research suggests benefits of physical activity (PA) for individuals receiving SUD treatment. However, current PA interventions have limitations, particularly regarding PA maintenance, due to motivational issues among people with SUDs. Our co-designed intervention is the first to target PA motivation for sustaining PA in individuals with SUDs. We employed the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) to co-design an intervention to increase PA motivation and support PA maintenance among people in residential SUD treatment. Research question: What are the risk factors for mismatches (involving or not involving biological material) and critical mismatches (CMM; involving biological material) in an assisted reproductive technology laboratory equipped with an electronic witnessing system (EWS)? Design: In total, 73,719 witnessing points were extracted retrospectively from an EWS database, representing 11,210 consecutive treatment cycles performed at Fertility North between January 2016 and July 2023. Results: Overall, 138 (0.19%) mismatches and 16 (0.02%) CMM were identified during the study period. This study aims to describe the risk factors and trends in birth prevalence of septo-optic dysplasia (SOD) and gastroschisis between 1980 and 2023. This descriptive, population-based study of SOD and gastroschisis used Western Australian Register of Developmental Anomalies data from 1980 to 2023. Birth prevalence was calculated using Midwives Notification System data for all births after 20 weeks gestation. Relative risk (RR) for SOD and gastroschisis showed risk by maternal age. Brexucabtagene autoleucel (brexu-cel) is an autologous anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapy approved in the US to treat adults aged ≥18 years (≥26 years in the EU) with relapsed/refractory (R/R) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Brexu-cel showed an overall complete remission (CR)/CR with incomplete hematologic recovery (CRi) rate of 73% (CR rate 60%) and median overall survival (OS) of 25.4 months in 78 patients with R/R B-ALL after 2 years in ZUMA-3. Methods: 729 participants aged 10 to 16 years completed three GMC tests newly designed to minimize the potentially confounding effects of physical fitness. Rates of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD) are extremely heterogeneous. Although biomarkers for amyloid-beta (Aβ) and tau proteins, the hallmark AD pathologies, have improved pathology-based diagnosis, they explain only 20-40% of the variance in AD-related cognitive impairment (CI). To discover novel biomarkers of CI in AD, we performed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteomics on 3,397 individuals from six major prospective AD case-control cohorts. Synapse proteins emerged as the strongest correlates of CI, independent of Aβ and tau. Psychological stress changes both behaviour and metabolism to protect organisms. Adrenaline is an important driver of this response. Anxiety correlates with circulating free fatty acid levels and can be alleviated by a peripherally restricted β-blocker, suggesting a peripheral signal linking metabolism with behaviour. Here we show that adrenaline, the β3 agonist CL316,243 and acute restraint stress induce growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) secretion in white adipose tissue of mice. Genetic inhibition of adipose triglyceride lipase or genetic deletion of β-adrenergic receptors blocks β-adrenergic-induced increases in GDF15. OBJECTIVE: We investigated communication experiences of caregivers of children with medical complexity (CMC) during emergency care.

METHODS: Fifteen caregivers of CMC participated in semi-structured interviews regarding communication while seeking care for their child in the emergency department (ED). Thematic analysis was applied using a previously established functional communication model as an a priori framework.

RESULTS: Each of the previously established 8 core functions of communication were identified in this population. "Building relationships" manifested as clinicians soliciting caregiver input and responding to the needs of the caregiver. BACKGROUND: Patients who have recurrent ventricular tachycardia (VT) despite receiving antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs), implantable cardioverter defibrillator placement, and catheter ablation (CA) are at significant risk of morbidity and mortality.

METHODS: We offered completely noninvasive cardiac radio-ablation (CRA) on a "compassionate use" basis for patients who were unable or unwilling to undergo CA for recurrent VT despite their having received treatment with AADs and placement of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. All patients who were referred to the CRA program were entered into a prospective registry and followed indefinitely thereafter.

INTRODUCTION: Treatment options for patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC with disease progression on or after osimertinib and platinum-based chemotherapy are limited.

METHODS: CHRYSALIS-2 cohort A evaluated amivantamab plus lazertinib in patients with EGFR exon 19 deletion- or L858R-mutated NSCLC with disease progression on or after osimertinib and platinum-based chemotherapy. Vertebrate photoreceptors have been studied for well over a century, but a fixed nomenclature for referring to orthologous cell types across diverse species has been lacking. Instead, photoreceptors have been variably-and often confusingly-named according to morphology, presence/absence of 'rhodopsin', spectral sensitivity, chromophore usage, and/or the gene family of the opsin(s) they express. Here, we propose a unified nomenclature for vertebrate rods and cones that aligns with the naming systems of other retinal cell classes and that is based on the photoreceptor type's putative evolutionary history.
