Advanced practitioners (APs), including nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), clinical nurse specialists, and pharmacists, are pivotal in health care. Despite their critical role, record numbers of APs are leaving the profession, primarily due to poor work-life balance, which contributes to burnout and high turnover rates. This article explores the impact of administrative time on AP job satisfaction and retention, drawing from recent surveys and case studies. Findings indicate that dedicated administrative time significantly enhances job satisfaction and reduces burnout, with data showing that APs with administrative time are less likely to leave their roles. Gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) remains a significant global health challenge, with over a million new cases annually. Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC), detected in ∼20 % of cases at diagnosis and ∼45 % later, is uniformly fatal, with limited treatment options. This study investigated the role of KAP1 in GAC progression, focusing on its interaction with YAP1 and cancer stemness traits. Analysis of over 596 primary GACs and 72 PC samples revealed that high nuclear KAP1 expression correlates with poor prognosis. KAP1 knockdown reduced oncogenic activity and stemness traits in GAC cells. Mechanistically, KAP1 positively regulates YAP1 transcription by binding to its promoter …

The treatment landscape of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is evolving rapidly, driven by advances in the development of targeted agents and immunotherapies. Despite this progress, some patients have suboptimal responses to treatment, highlighting the need for new therapeutic strategies. In the past decade, the important role of the tumour microenvironment (TME) in NSCLC progression, metastatic dissemination and response to treatment has become increasingly evident. Background: Hippocampal avoidance whole-brain radiotherapy (HA-WBRT) is designed to spare cognitive function by reducing radiation dose to the hippocampus during the treatment of brain metastases. Current manual planning methods can be time-consuming and may vary in quality, necessitating the development of automated approaches to streamline the process and ensure consistency.

Purpose: To automate hippocampal avoidance whole-brain radiotherapy (HA-WBRT) planning.

Methods: Our algorithm automatically contours organs-at-risk (OARs) and the hippocampal-avoidance brain target. The algorithm generates planning structures from given contours, utilizing preset beam parameters and dose constraints for optimization. Innovative therapies such as thermoembolization are expected to play an important role in improving care for patients with diseases such as hepatocellular carcinoma. Thermoembolization is a minimally invasive strategy that combines thermal ablation and embolization in a single procedure. This approach exploits an exothermic chemical reaction that occurs when an acid chloride is delivered via an endovascular route. However, comprehension of the complexities of the biophysics of thermoembolization is challenging. Background: Advances in care have led to improvements in survival for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer; however, the risk of early death remains high for certain cancers, particularly acute leukemias. Risk factors for early death in AYAs diagnosed with acute leukemia have not been well studied.

Methods: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry was used to assess risk of early death (within 2 months of diagnosis) in AYAs diagnosed with acute leukemia (n = 16 153). Desmoid tumors are rare mesenchymal neoplasms characterized by a clonal proliferation of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. Using the novel contrast-enhanced susceptibility-weighted imaging (CE-SWI) for characterizing desmoid tumors can enhance the separation between fibrous T2-hypointense and cellular T1-enhancing components. We aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the CE-SWI signal, volumetric, and radiomics-derived features in assessing desmoid treatment response. This IRB-approved study included 17 single-lesion extremity desmoid fibromatosis patients who underwent standard-of-care MRI, including CE-SWI, from March 2021 to February 2024. Aims: The aim of this study was to describe the postoperative care pathway, with phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation (CR) delivery, for adult patients following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery at one large hospital in Queensland, Australia. Design and methods: This observational study involved structured observations, patient electronic medical record audits, and field notes to gather postoperative data. Four continuous hours of patient and healthcare professional (HCP) observations gathered at 30-min intervals occurred on 12 separate days over a 1-month period (February–March 2023). The tooth root is a critical component of the tooth anchored to surrounding alveolar bones. Tooth root formation is driven by cells in the apical papilla (AP) that generate new dentin-forming odontoblasts at the root-forming front. Mesenchymal stem cells have been isolated from AP for regenerative use; however, how AP cells physiologically coordinate tooth root formation remains undefined. We find that CXCL12+ cells emerge in AP under hypoxic environments at the onset of tooth root formation. Using Cxcl12-creER-based cell-lineage analysis, we further find that CXCL12+ AP cells contribute not only to odontoblasts but also to cementum-forming cementoblasts of the elongating …

Objective: Common Data Elements (CDEs) standardize data collection and sharing across studies, enhancing data interoperability and improving research reproducibility. However, implementing CDEs presents challenges due to the broad range and variety of data elements. This study aims to develop a CDE mapping tool to bridge the gap between local data elements and National Institutes of Health (NIH) CDEs.

The aim of this study was to determine whether there are sex differences in motor unit firing behavior in patients with Parkinson's disease. Twenty-seven patients with Parkinson's disease (females = 14 [age = 71.1 ± 6.8], males = 13 [age = 69.2 ± 10.3], Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III score; females = 10.8 ± 4.8, males = 11.4 ± 1.4) performed a contraction at 30% of the maximal voluntary contraction. Background: Within the American South, marginalized Black populations continue to suffer from health disparities. A key resource that could aid in the prevention of health disparities such as teen pregnancy is the school nurse. School nurses are well positioned to assist in the development of independent health maintenance among student populations. However, school nurses remain understaffed and underfunded throughout most of the United States, which limits their effectiveness. It is possible that within southern states there are inequities in how school resources are allocated that have ties to segregation and redlining practices that systemically marginalized Black populations throughout the 1900s. …
