Klebsiella pneumoniae is becoming increasingly difficult to treat as multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains become more prevalent. The formation of biofilm heightens this threat by embedding bacterial cells in a polysaccharide-rich matrix that limits antibiotic penetration. Here we dissect the anti-biofilm bovine host-defense cathelicidin peptide fragment bac7 (1-35), exploring its anti-biofilm mechanism, evaluating its ability to curb colonization of the vital organs by hypervirulent K. pneumoniae, and testing its breadth of activity against diverse clinical isolates. Transcriptomic profiling revealed that bac7 (1-35) simultaneously compromises the bacterial membrane and inhibits ribosomal function, a dual assault that precipitates rapid biofilm collapse and blocks bacterial …

INTRODUCTION: In the phase III LUNAR study, overall survival (OS) with PD-(L)1 inhibitor or docetaxel was improved by adding Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer progressing on/after platinum-based therapy. This post-hoc analysis evaluated the effects of body mass index (BMI) on TTFields delivery.

Self-Determination Theory (SDT) posits that the quality of students’ motivation regulation (i.e., autonomous versus controlled) shapes both learning and health behavior, yet few studies have examined the relations among motivation regulation, alcohol and cannabis use, and achievement. In this study, I surveyed 459 undergraduates at a mid-sized public university in the southeastern United States. Participants completed the Academic Motivation Scale-College version 28 to assess autonomous and controlled motivation regulation, a typical-week alcohol grid, a seven-day cannabis grid, and self-reported grade point average (GPA). Glioblastoma (GB), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), cholangiocarcinoma, and chondrosarcoma (CS) cancers all contain mutations in the gene isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 (IDH2). The mutant IDH2 enzyme exhibits transformation of alpha-ketoglutarate (αKG) into the oncometabolite D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D2HG) in the mitochondria of these cancers. Mitochondrial-mediated transfer between cancer cells and recipient cells is a significant event that impacts the physiology of the receiving cell, specifically the epigenetic landscape. Night shift work is prevalent in healthcare and other industries, yet its effects on lifestyle factors such as food intake, sleep quality, and mental health remain underexplored. This study investigates the impact of night shift schedules on nurses’ wellness, focusing on eating patterns, sleep, physical activity, and mood. A sample of 13 nurses were divided into two shift groups: day (n=5) and night (n=8); and they completed a questionnaire to assess the variables related to their behavior, food choices, eating habits, sleep patterns.

In a case-control study, we analyzed 317 MDD patients and 1,268 sexmatched controls from the Taiwan Biobank (TWB).
