Background and aims: People with dysphagia may require long-term tube feeding to maintain adequate nutrition. In Taiwan, nasogastric (NG) tubes are more commonly used than gastrostomy tubes. This practice is inconsistent with international treatment guidelines. Medical professionals' attitudes toward treatment may influence patients' decisions. Therefore, we designed a questionnaire to assess whether medical professionals' conceptions of gastrostomy are consistent with current international treatment principles. Particularly troublesome issues develop due to the urinary system complications resulting from the neurogenic bladder. Objective: We investigated the effectiveness of functional recovery after 2-week post-acute rehabilitation in elderly people with hip fractures. Design: We divided the patients (N = 129) into 2 groups: the post-acute care (PAC) group (N = 90) that received 2-week in-hospital rehabilitation and the control group (N =39) that were discharged immediately. Outcomes were measured according to the Barthel Index (BI) score. Methods: This research is a retrospective observational study. We sampled data from a nationally representative sample of 1,000,000 enrollees of the single-payer government-based National Health Insurance (NHI) program in Taiwan from 1996 to 2013. Claims data for rehabilitation during index admission after amputation were analyzed, and factors associated with IR use were identified. One quarter of veterans returning from the 1990–1991 Persian Gulf War have developed Gulf War Illness (GWI) with chronic pain, fatigue, cognitive and gastrointestinal dysfunction. Exertion leads to characteristic, delayed onset exacerbations that are not relieved by sleep. We have modeled exertional exhaustion by comparing magnetic resonance images from before and after submaximal exercise. One third of the 27 GWI participants had brain stem atrophy and developed postural tachycardia after exercise (START: Stress Test Activated Reversible Tachycardia).
