Stress And Burnout In Nurse Leaders, Laura E. Johnson, Kiersten J. Nichols, Jayme A. Sakhitab May 2020

Stress And Burnout In Nurse Leaders, Laura E. Johnson, Kiersten J. Nichols, Jayme A. Sakhitab

Nursing Masters Papers

Problem: Nurse leaders commonly experience stress and self-reported burnout. The associated negative consequences are compelling, yet few studies to date consider the nurse leader population. Stress is “a multidimensional phenomenon determined by a person’s perceptions and may be assessed as harm, loss, threat, or challenge” (Udod, Cummings, Care, & Jenkins, 2017a, p. 160). Burnout is a lack of professional fulfillment caused by emotional, physical, and psychological stress (Nurse Burnout, 2019). Drivers are associated and contributing factors which lead to stress and self-reported burnout.

Purpose: The purposes of this correlational study are to (a) identify drivers from the literature and …

Reiner Jr, Veincent Christian F. Pepito, Local Burden Of Disease Diarrhoea Collaborators, 628 Co-Authors

Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health Publications

Background

Across low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), one in ten deaths in children younger than 5 years is attributable to diarrhoea. The substantial between-country variation in both diarrhoea incidence and mortality is attributable to interventions that protect children, prevent infection, and treat disease. Identifying subnational regions with the highest burden and mapping associated risk factors can aid in reducing preventable childhood diarrhoea.

Methods

We used Bayesian model-based geostatistics and a geolocated dataset comprising 15 072 746 children younger than 5 years from 466 surveys in 94 LMICs, in combination with findings of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk …

A Review Of Major Role Of Vitamin D3 In Human Immune System And Its Possible Use For Novel Corona Virus Treatment, Florentin Smarandache, Victor Christianto

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

the evidences showing major role of Vitamin D3 in human immune system and its potential use for novel corona virus treatment. Our argument is based on research finding that corona virus has viral envelope glycoproteins. In this regard, Vitamin D3 proves to offer various beneficial effects, including immunomodulatory effect, in order to break the glycoproteins envelope of the virus. One of the greatest benefit of vitamin D3 is the fact that it is easy to get 10,000 - 20,000 IU of daily intake requirement, by sunbathing for more or less twenty minutes. Such a method is likely applicable in many …

Silicon Quantum Dots Conjunctive With Stable Radicals: Potential Application In Non-Invasive Cancer Diagnostics, Daylan R. Post May 2020

Silicon Quantum Dots Conjunctive With Stable Radicals: Potential Application In Non-Invasive Cancer Diagnostics, Daylan R. Post

Honors College Theses

Quantum Dots, and nanomaterials in general, are one of the most promising areas of current physical study, especially their potential medical uses. In this study we introduced Nitroxide free radicals into a Silicon Quantum Dot (SiQD) solution and conducted experiments on the modified SiQDs in order to characterize their physical properties. We gathered emission, excitation, absorption and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of both modified and unmodified SiQDs. Previous studies have shown the possibility of using proteins as markers for cancer detection. Our measurements show the potential of using the interaction between these protein markers and SiQDs as a form …

It originates from the accumulation of several mutations over the life of a cell that causes it to evade cell death and multiply rapidly. It can affect any tissue in the body and can spread to other parts of the body through metastasis. Cancer comes in numerous shapes and sizes with different levels of aggression, growth speeds, and health risks. Many treatments for cancer exist today, three of the most popular being surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, which can be used in combinations with other treatments to …

Swim Instruction For Individuals With Developmental Coordination Disorder, Susan J. Grosse May 2020

Swim Instruction For Individuals With Developmental Coordination Disorder, Susan J. Grosse

International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education

Almost every swim teacher has encountered an individual who had difficulty learning to swim, whose movements appeared dissimilar from peers, or who needed to repeat swim course instructional levels many times. That individual might have had difficulty with sport activities, handwriting, and been clumsy in gross and fine motor tasks. Difficulty with coordination and control of movement may suggest a diagnosis of developmental coordination disorder (DCD). Individuals experiencing DCD may feel left out, inadequate, unhappy, frustrated, and embarrassed by his or her ineptness. These feelings may result in an individual withdrawing or refusing to join in and participate in physical …

Allelic Variants Between Mouse Substrains Balb/Cj And Balb/Cbyj Influence Mononuclear Cardiomyocyte Composition And Cardiomyocyte Nuclear Ploidy., Peiheng Gan, Michaela Patterson, Hirofumi Watanabe, Kristy Wang, Reilly A Edmonds, Laura G Reinholdt, Henry M Sucov

Faculty Research 2020

Most mouse cardiomyocytes (CMs) become multinucleated shortly after birth via endoreplication and interrupted mitosis, which persists through adulthood. The very closely related inbred mouse strains BALB/cJ and BALB/cByJ differ substantially (6.6% vs. 14.3%) in adult mononuclear CM level. This difference is the likely outcome of a single X-linked polymorphic gene that functions in a CM-nonautonomous manner, and for which the BALB/cByJ allele is recessive to that of BALB/cJ. From whole exome sequence we identified two new X-linked protein coding variants that arose de novo in BALB/cByJ, in the genes Gdi1 (R276C) and Irs4 (L683F), but show that neither affects mononuclear …

Managing Nursing Incivility: An Integrative Literature Review, Tina Carlson May 2020

Managing Nursing Incivility: An Integrative Literature Review, Tina Carlson

Nursing Masters Papers

Incivility among nurses is a problem that affects healthcare at multiple levels. Incivility can lead to intimidation that can distract clinical judgment, putting patient safety in jeopardy. Incivility affects patient safety as it is a “contributing factor to 98,000 deaths each year in acute care settings” (Lesater, Mood, Buchwach, & Dieckmann, 2015 p.17). In addition, incivility impacts healthcare organizations related to nursing turnover rates and can cost hospital organizations up to 125% of a registered nurse’s (RN) annual salary to replace each individual nurse who leaves their job (Stagg, Sheridan, Jones, & Speroni, 2013). The Joint Commission and American Nurses …
