Follistatin (Fst), an extracellular inhibitor of the TGF-β signaling pathway, plays a critical role in tooth development, particularly in crown morphogenesis and enamel patterning. While molar root number is conserved within species and between upper and lower jaws, the molecular mechanisms governing root patterning remain largely unknown. To investigate the role of Fst in root formation, we analyzed K14-Cre-mediated Fst knockout mice. BACKGROUND: Institutional barriers are associated with suboptimal guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) prescribing at heart failure discharge.

PROJECT RATIONALE: Practice variations between academic medical centers (defined as "teaching" hospitals with residents) and community hospitals are poorly understood. Evaluating how diverse settings respond to quality improvement strategies is vital.

PROJECT SUMMARY: A multicenter study across 10 electronic health record-unified hospitals evaluated 3,535 heart failure encounters. BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospitalization, morbidity, and mortality. Despite evidence supporting guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), prescribing remains suboptimal, particularly at hospital discharge.

BACKGROUND: Oral hygiene is a key component of health. Practices for oral hygiene include brushing teeth with toothpaste, flossing, and mouth washing. It has been reported that 36% of United States adults use mouthwash daily. However, antibacterial mouthwashes kill oral nitrate-reducing bacteria, thus impairing nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide is a key molecule in vasodilation and blood pressure regulation, often acting as a mediator, so there is a potential for antibacterial mouthwashes to cause elevated blood pressure. It now involves a strategy that purposefully restores abdominal core function and prevents future complications. This study investigates the association between ventral hernia repair (VHR) and functional disorders related to the abdominal core in addition to bowel obstruction, opioid misuse, and physical therapy utilization.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate neonatal outcomes associated with birthweight discordance in twin pregnancies managed at a regional tertiary care centre in Oman. Methods: This five-year retrospective cohort study (2020–2024) was conducted at Nizwa Hospital, Nizwa, Oman, and included twin pregnancies of ≥ 24 weeks' gestation. Birthweight discordance was defined as ≥ 20%. This study examined the extent to which UAE audiences rely on social media as a source of information on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and the resulting effects of this reliance. Grounded in Media System Dependency Theory, the study employed an audience survey using a questionnaire administered to a sample of (132) Emirati citizens in Al Ain. The findings revealed that the combined medium and high reliance reached (53%). Regarding the effects, cognitive effects recorded the highest arithmetic means, followed by affective and behavioral effects at comparable levels. Communication partner training (CPT) is among the most evidence-based interventions for supporting people with aphasia, yet many speech-language pathologists report not implementing it in practice, and graduate students frequently report low confidence communicating with people with aphasia prior to targeted training. This qualitative descriptive study examined graduate students' experiences learning CPT through a course-embedded, multi-modal experiential approach with structured reflection. Written reflections from 79 first-year graduate students across two university programs served as the data source. Reflections were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Background: Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated associations between congenital heart disease (CHD) and childhood cancer. However, these assessments have not fully accounted for the pathogenetic and clinical heterogeneity of CHD, limiting their capacity to inform pathogenetic studies and the clinical management of children with CHD.

Protein O-glucosyltransferase 1 (POGLUT1/Rumi) transfers an O-linked glucose (O-Glc) monosaccharide from UDP-Glc to a serine residue in epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats with a specific consensus sequence. In mammals, GXYLT1 and GXYLT2 transfer xylose to this O-Glc monosaccharide. Previous studies showed that Poglut1 deletion in mice leads to embryonic lethality with defects in crumbs family member 2 (CRB2) trafficking and NOTCH1 signaling. Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) is classically a compressive neuropathy of the posterior tibial nerve beneath the flexor retinaculum, presenting with plantar foot pain and paresthesias. Standard surgical management of TTS involves release of the flexor retinaculum to decompress the nerve. We report a rare and unusual case of TTS in which the posterior tibial nerve was encased within a post-traumatic osseous tunnel accompanied by dense fibrotic tissue, representing an atypical and previously undescribed etiology of nerve entrapment. Prostate cancer incidence has increased among younger men in the United States, and treatment affects both patient survival and family well-being. This quantitative retrospective study examined survival among young men diagnosed with prostate cancer who received chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or prostatectomy, while accounting for socioeconomic factors of residence and ethnicity. Social cognitive theory was the framework. Ordinal logistic regression was used to determine whether treatment method, socioeconomic factors of residence and ethnicity predicted survival among young men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
