Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan berbagai tingkat asam sulfat (H2So4) dan asam formiat (HCOOH) pada proses pikel  terhadap kualitas kulit jadi (leather) Domba Garut. Kualitas Kulit jadi didasarkan pada kadar keasaman (pH), kadar krom (Cr2O3), dan kadar air (H2O). Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimen menggunakan pola faktorial dengan rancangan dasar rancangan acak lengkap, menggunakan 48 lembar kulit Domba Garut jantan ukuran 90. Kulit-kulit tersebut dibagi kedalam 16 kelompok. Tiap-tiap kelompok diberikan perlakuan penggunaan asam sulfat dan asam formiat. Masing-masing kelompok diulang sebanyak 3 kali ulangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh suplemen Zn-Proteinat, Cu-Proteinat dan Ca-Minyak dalam ransum berbasis pucuk tebu diamoniasi terhadap pertumbuhan dan efisiensi ransum pada domba jantan persilangan Priangan x Barbados. Percobaan dilakukan terhadap 5 ekor domba jantan yang sedang tumbuh dengan menggunakan rancangan Bujur Sangkar Latin (BSL) 5x5,  lima macam ransum yaitu R1 = campuran 50% pucuk tebu amoniasi + 50% konsentrat, R2 = R1 + 2% Zn-proteinat, R3 = R1 + 2% Cu-proteinat, R4 = R2 + 2% Cu-proteinat, dan R5 = R4 + Ca-minyak ikan. Aims/hypothesis: Osteomyelitis is a common complication of diabetic foot ulcers and a leading cause of lower limb amputations globally. Accurate diagnosis of diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) is essential for effective infection management and improving prognosis. This study aimed to compare the performance of white blood cell (WBC)-single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/computed tomography (CT) and conventional MRI in the initial diagnosis of DFO and in detecting residual infection during treatment monitoring, using bone biopsy as the reference standard.

Background: Growing evidence suggests pesticides may increase risk of type 2 diabetes, but data are limited on many specific chemicals.

Methods: In 29,527 private pesticide applicators in the Agricultural Health Study cohort (enrolled 1993-1997 in Iowa and North Carolina), 3,847 incident diabetes cases were identified by self-report during follow-up surveys in 1999-2003, 2005-2010, 2013-2015, and 2019-2021. We examined 50 pesticides reported at enrollment, updated in 1999-2003 or 2005-2010, prior to diabetes diagnosis or end of follow-up, using log-binomial regression to calculate relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for ever-use and intensity-weighted lifetime days (IWLD) use (tertiles, T1-3), adjusting …

Potensi Pakan Serat Dan Daya Dukungnya Terhadap Populasi Ternak Ruminansia Di Wilayah Kabupaten Garut, U. Hidayat Tanuwiria, A. Yulianti, A. Mushawwir

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari potensi pakan asal limbah tanaman pangan dan daya dukungnya terhadap populasi ternak ruminansia di wilayah kabupaten Garut. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara survey dan pengumpulan data sekunder.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Potensi pakan asal rumput alam dan jerami asal limbah tanaman pangan di seluruh wilayah kabupaten Garut adalah 414.211,1 ton bahan kering (BK) yang terdiri atas 151.395,6 ton BK asal rumput dan 262.815,5 ton BK asal limbah tanaman pangan. Daya dukung pakan terhadap populasi ternak adalah 124.706 satuan ternak (ST), yang terdiri atas 45.580,5 ST ternak ruminansia kecil dan 79.125,5 ST ternak ruminansia besar.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari potensi pakan asal limbah tanaman pangan dan daya dukungnya terhadap populasi ternak ruminansia di wilayah kabupaten Sumedang. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara survey dan pengumpulan data sekunder.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Potensi pakan asal rumput alam dan jerami asal limbah tanaman pangan di seluruh wilayah kabupaten Sumedang adalah 284.784,72 ton bahan kering (BK) yang terdiri atas 86.937,65 ton BK asal rumput dan 197.847,07 ton BK asal limbah tanaman pangan. Cangkang rajungan mengandung kitin yang persentasenya paling besar berupa polisakarida. Kitin dan derivat-derivatnya telah banyak digunakan dalam berbagai keperluan terutama untuk kesehatan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung rajungan sebagai sumber kitin terhadap efisiensi pakan dan kandungan lemak feces tikus putih Rattus norvegicus) strain Wistar. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial 2x5 dengan tiga kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis kelamin dan kedua level tepung rajungan yaitu 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pengaruh lama penyimpanan semen cair ayam buras pada suhu 50C terhadap periode fertil dan fertilitas sperma.  Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 3 perlakuan dan setiap perlakuan diulang 6 kali.  Lama penyimpanan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penyimpanan 1 jam (0 hari), 24 jam (1 hari) dan 48 jam (2 hari).  Peubah yang diukur adalah periode fertil dan fertilitas sperma. Dietary nitrate supplementation appears to preferentially target type II muscle fibers for beneficial effects; however, research examining the efficacy of nitrate in females and resistance exercise is scarce. PURPOSE: To investigate if dietary nitrate, provided as concentrated nitrate-rich beetroot juice (BR), improved resistance exercise performance in back squat and bench press compared to nitrate-depleted beetroot juice (PL) in resistance-trained females. Resistance exercise (RE) has been shown to improve glycemic control after a meal in type 2 diabetes (T2D) and prediabetes under controlled laboratory settings. PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of RE on glycemic control in a free-living environment. METHODS: This was a 4-arm randomized crossover study involving 22 participants with T2D (n=12) or prediabetes (n=10). Many individuals travel to high altitudes for recreational or occupational purposes. Hypobaric hypoxia (HH) at altitude decreases arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2), reduces oxygen delivery to tissues, and can adversely affect organ function. Exercise, independent of HH, significantly decreases renal blood flow (RBF). Therefore, performing exercise in HH may further impair oxygen delivery and place additional strain on the kidneys. Many occupational workers engage in strenuous physical work in hot environments for prolonged periods, placing them at risk of heat-related illness due to increasing physiological strain identified by increasing core temperature (Tcore) and heart rate (HR). Lifestyle behaviors, such as smoking, caffeine and alcohol consumption, and sleep deprivation, may further exacerbate heat strain and increase susceptibility to heat-related illness. Exercise-trained individuals exhibit greater immune system function, which may be attributed in part to enhanced peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) function. Exercise training is a potent stimulator of mitochondrial adaptation, which may help explain improvements in immunity. However, the mechanisms by which exercise acutely modulates PBMCs to promote beneficial adaptations remain unclear. Previous studies suggest that the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) may be elevated in post-menopausal women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Muscular strength is associated with more favorable CRP profiles. However, this association has not been examined among post-menopausal women on HRT. Ventricular arrhythmia (VA) is a common arrhythmia in dogs. Several extracardiac causes such as pain may contribute this condition. This case report describes a 9-year-old neutered male Labrador Retriever with ventricular tachycardia (VT) potentially related to severe neck pain due to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). The dog was referred with a sign of inability to walk, tachypnea and an irregular heartbeat. Electrocardiography confirmed VT at 160-200 bpm and an increased cardiac troponin I level (35.22 ng/ml). Despite antiarrhythmic treatment, the VT persisted. Cardiac evaluation revealed no structural abnormalities. Background

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), yet reliable biomarkers for early detection and risk stratification remain limited. This study aimed to identify plasma proteins associated with disease progression from chronic HBV infection to HCC.

Methods

Plasma proteomic profiling was conducted using high-resolution LC–MS/MS on samples from healthy controls, chronic HBV carriers, patients with cirrhosis, and individuals with HBV-associated HCC. Differentially expressed proteins were identified through bioinformatics analysis, and protein–protein interaction networks were reconstructed to assess functional relevance.

Myeloid cells are highly heterogeneous and play key roles in establishing an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME), but the mechanisms controlling their differentiation remain unclear. Using orthotopic murine breast cancer models, we investigated how interleukin-1α (IL-1α) influences this process. Deletion of host Il1α resulted in rejection of transplanted tumors. Single-cell RNA sequencing identified CX3CR1⁺ macrophages as the main source of IL-1α in the TME. Il1α deficiency disrupted monocyte–macrophage differentiation, reducing CX3CR1⁺ macrophages and increasing iNOS⁺ macrophages. Myeloid cells from Il1α⁻/⁻ hosts induced lower PD-1 and CTLA-4 expression in co-cultured CD8⁺ T cells than those from wild-type hosts. CellChat analysis showed …

In the summer of 2025, the library director began reviewing resources available from the University Libraries Special Collections Portal to learn about early hospital infrastructure in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. Using the keyword “hospital”, they reviewed 1,000 records to locate primary resources that could help tell the story of Las Vegas’s first hospital and Southern Nevada early history. The ubiquitous availability of work-related applications on personal devices makes healthcare workers prone to working during leisure time. We tested the hypothesis that an intervention to reduce work-related screen time during a weekend off reduces stress in healthcare workers in a pragmatic parallel design randomized controlled trial between November 2021 and November 2023. Healthcare workers using a smartphone with a work email application were eligible. Serious mental illnesses (SMIs), including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, have long been linked to cognitive decline, multiple chronic medical conditions, and premature mortality. Forkhead box class O1 (FOXO1) and fas-associated death domain (FADD) regulate cell death pathways and homeostatic processes such as cell cycle progression and apoptosis. FADD phosphorylation promotes nuclear localization of FOXO1, and FOXO1 regulates FADD expression. Therefore, it is plausible that FOXO1 and FADD have synergistic or antagonistic effects on cell cycle regulation and the response to anticancer drug treatment in cancer cells. In the present study, we report that AS1842856-mediated inhibition of FOXO1 reverses anticancer drug-induced cytotoxicity, while FADD knockdown increases anticancer drug-induced cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma (OS). OBJECTIVE: Few dementia caregivers have access to evidence-based support programs. Web applications (app) may address this gap. Plans4Care, a web app, provides caregivers with on-demand personalized solutions to address care challenges. We present results of a proof-of-concept study and describe a trial protocol to test efficacy.

METHODS: To use Plans4Care, caregivers respond to brief onboarding questions, assess dementia patients' cognitive function, identify care challenges, and generate "action plans" (personalized strategies). Ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) are common in patients with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD), but the literature remains inconclusive regarding the benefits of an automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD) in this population, especially in those with a preexisting device before LVAD implantation. Here, we report the acute hemodynamic consequences of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia in a patient with a preexisting biventricular AICD who was implanted with an LVAD (HeartMate 3). This case underscores the importance of considering AICD placement on a case-by-case basis and highlights the need for a well-designed study to establish its benefit in this population.
