Students (N = 135) pursuing degrees in health-focused programs participated in an interprofessional virtual journal club during the spring semesters of 2022 and 2023. The journal club was integrated into multiple courses and facilitated through the university’s learning management system and a web conferencing platform. Students applied the 2016 Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies throughout the activity. The journal club included four pre-selected articles on ethics in healthcare, and students developed one discussion question per article to guide synchronous virtual discussions. The purpose of this study was to compare differences in Nutrition Care Process (NCP) confidence and documentation quality across two different undergraduate student cohorts. This quasi-experimental trial was conducted with n = 29 total undergraduate dietetic students (2023 cohort), then compared with results from the previous years’ (2022) cohort (n = 43). NCP confidence was measured before and after students completed traditional case studies (time 1 and time 2) and after completing an ANDHII case study using an electronic and interactive NCP documentation platform (time 3) for each cohort, then compared between cohorts. Background: Massive transfusion protocols are established in-hospital practices for managing haemorrhagic shock, yet critical bleeding accounts for up to 40% of trauma deaths, with half occurring before hospital arrival. This has driven interest in prehospital transfusion, a concept originating in military settings where early blood product administration during prolonged evacuations demonstrated significant survival benefits. Despite compelling military evidence showing improved 24-h and 30-day survival with prehospital transfusion, civilian adoption faces substantial challenges. Global interest in this domain is increasing, particularly in regions with trauma populations remote from immediate access to major trauma centres.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an effective inorganic gene delivery carrier due to its ability to transport genetic cargo across cell membranes, protect it from proteolysis, and enable escape from late endosomes via pH-controlled dissolution. However, its transfection efficiency remains lower than that of viral agents, prompting studies of hybrids with cationic molecules or phases to enhance the gene delivery performance. This study reports on the synthesis of HAp in regular and reverse micellar regions of a ternary microemulsion system composed of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), 1-hexanol and water. BACKGROUND: Cysteine-cysteine chemokine receptors 2 (CCR2) and 5 (CCR5) contribute to immune suppression in tumor microenvironments. CCR2 and CCR5 antagonists have demonstrated antitumor activity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and colorectal cancer (CRC), respectively. Transforming waste polymers into materials with improved properties offers a compelling strategy for advancing the sustainable use of polymers, echoing the Chinese proverb: “Blue comes from indigo but surpasses it in blueness.” Herein, we report a photo-oxidative deconstruction and upcycling method for unsaturated rubber waste. Under 390 nm LED irradiation at room temperature, in the presence of a nitroarene oxidant, diverse unsaturated polymers─including natural rubber, polybutadiene, nitrile rubber, styrene–butadiene rubber, and even cross-linked nitrile gloves─are selectively converted into carbonyl-terminated oligomers. Background: Dementia is a growing global health concern, with behavioral and psychological symptoms (BPSD) contributing significantly to diminished quality of life and caregiver burden. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as gardening and nature-based therapies, are increasingly recognized for their therapeutic potential. BACKGROUND: Adalimumab (ADM) in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is usually dosed using fixed weight-based bands (label dosing: 20 mg for <  30 kg, 40 mg for ≥ 30 kg) every other week (EOW). This has been shown to result in higher exposure after remission than targeted in adult patients with rheumatic diseases (trough concentrations of 2–8 mg/L) suggesting possibility of treatment adjustments and tapering, particularly in children weighing 30 to 50 kg. A pharmacometric simulation study was performed to evaluate different ADM dosing regimens supported by therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to provide insights for JIA management in remission. METHODS: This simulation study used a previously established pharmacokinetic ADM model. Simulation scenarios included dose reduction to 30 mg in children 30 to 50 kg and interval extension from 14 to 21 or 28 days. To further personalize ADM dosing and avoid exposure above predefined target range, TDM-guided tapering within mentioned simulation scenarios was investigated, i.e., adjusting dosing interval in children and adolescents whose ADM trough concentrations were above the upper limit of the predefined ADM target range of 9 mg/L. Proportions of virtual patients within the extrapolated target exposure range from adults including a safety-margin, i.e., 4–9 mg/L, were assessed and compared to label dosing, stratified by body weight. RESULTS: In children and adolescents with JIA weighing 30 to 50 kg both, dose interval extension to 21 days and dose reduction to 30 mg EOW increased proportion of patients within predefined target range from 17 - 29% (label dose regimen) to 34–43% or 28–43%, respectively. TDM-guided tapering for patients with trough concentrations > 9 mg/L further increased proportion with target exposure to 56–63% while keeping the proportion of patients with trough concentrations <  2 mg/L similar to label dosing (≤ 2%). CONCLUSION: This simulation study suggests that ADM tapering, in children with JIA who reached remission, may be applicable. Appropriate ADM dose reduction or dose interval extension, especially when supported by TDM, could help to reduce treatment-related and socioeconomic burden, while minimize risk of underexposure. Provided simulation framework can be validated and further fine-tuned once paediatric exposure-response data and target ranges have been established.

While pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) demonstrates proven effectiveness, poor uptake and nonadherence limit its potential impact. This study examined the relationship between perceived HIV susceptibility, PrEP benefits, behavioral risk factors, service delivery models, and PrEP uptake and continuity among young women aged 15–24 in Uganda, guided by the health belief model. Age is a major risk factor for lung disease. We characterized the changing cellular, transcriptional, and genomic landscape of human lung aging using single-cell RNA sequencing. We find that lung aging is cell-type dyssynchronous, with alveolar epithelial and endothelial cells exhibiting the greatest transcriptional changes. Among alveolar epithelial cells, aging is associated with a decreased relative proportion of surfactant-expressing SPChigh AT2 cells. Among alveolar capillary cells, we observed loss of differentiation and capillary function. Analysis of somatic mutations called from single-cell data revealed an increase with aging, with alveolar epithelial and endothelial cell types exhibiting greater mutation burdens. The project entailed the development and review of a clinical practice guideline (CPG) for reducing polypharmacy in the geriatric patient population. Polypharmacy is associated with increased risk of adverse drug events (ADEs) such as drug-drug interactions, poor adherence to pharmacotherapy, and increased risk of falls. Additionally, polypharmacy tends to increase high hospitalization rates and emergency department (ED) visits. From a nursing practice perspective, polypharmacy worsens patient outcomes and increases nurses’ workload and healthcare costs for patients. BACKGROUND: Obesity affects over 10% of the world population and has significant public health implications. With rising recognition of the long-term effects of Long COVID (LC) coupled with new agents to facilitate weight loss, it is critical to understand the influence of obesity on LC. Background & aims: This phase I trial evaluated the safety of hypofractionated liver reirradiation (reRT) with preferential sparing of functional liver identified by technetium-99m sulfur colloid single-photon emission computed tomography (Tc-99m SC SPECT; hereafter SPECT) for patients previously treated with external beam radiotherapy or transarterial radioembolization.

Methods: A 3+3 design evaluated the safety of two escalating SPECT-based functional liver volumetric dose constraints. Dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs), liver segment volumes, and MRI functional liver imaging score, relative liver enhancement, and elastography were assessed.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) combined with endocrine therapy are the standard first-line treatment for hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative (HR+/HER2-) metastatic breast cancer, but resistance inevitably develops. In triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), the efficacy of CDK4/6i remains uncertain. Our study shows that the selective CDK2 inhibitor BLU-222, while effective alone, enhances synergistic activity when combined with CDK4/6i in resistant HR+/HER2- and TNBC models, leading to increased apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. In vivo, combining BLU-222 with palbociclib or ribociclib produced significant antitumor activity across eight resistant models, driving durable tumor regression and prolonged survival. Mechanistically, BLU-222, alone or with palbociclib, upregulated …

Purpose: To evaluate the presenting symptoms, and the overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) in patients with lacrimal gland adenoid cystic carcinoma (LGACC).

Methods: This retrospective single-centre cohort study included all consecutive patients with LGACC treated by the primary author from November 1998 through August 2024. Demographic data, presenting symptoms, the histological subtype of LGACC, type of surgical treatment, adjuvant radiotherapy or chemotherapy, T category at presentation and survival data were reviewed. Correlations between histological subtypes, T-category, type of surgery (eye sparing vs orbital exenteration), and DSS and OS were analysed.

Fusobacterium nucleatum is a Gram-negative anaerobe associated with periodontitis and colorectal cancer. It secretes putrescine, a polyamine that promotes biofilm formation by oral co-colonizers and enhances the proliferation of cancer cells. However, the physiological importance of putrescine for F. nucleatum itself remains unexplored. Here, we show that putrescine biosynthesis, mediated by the ornithine decarboxylase gene oda, is essential for F. nucleatum viability. Deletion of oda was only possible when a functional copy was provided in trans, and CRISPR interference of oda expression resulted in complete growth defects. Measures from affinity-proteomics platforms often correlate poorly, challenging interpretation of protein associations with genetic variants and phenotypes. Here, we examine 2157 proteins measured on both SomaScan 7k and Olink Explore 3072 across 1930 participants with genetic similarity to European, African, East Asian, and Admixed American ancestry references. Inter-platform correlation coefficients for these 2157 proteins follow a bimodal distribution (median r = 0.30). We evaluate protein measure associations with genetic variants, and find approximately 25-30% of the signals on each platform are likely driven by protein-altering variants. Complete Basic Immunization (IDL) is the giving of early immunization to infants before their age below one year old consisting of Hepatitis B, BCG, DPT-HB-Hib, Polio (IPV and OPV) and measles. Giving Immunization to children can prevent the occurrence of disease transmission (PD3I). The lowest IDL coverage in Pekanbaru Community Health Center during the Covid-19 pandemic experienced a significant decrease of 58.1%. Statement of problem: Indirect restorations may not fit the patient’s teeth, or they may require excessive adjustment. If multiple casts from the same impression are equivalent, dentists can use new pristine casts to determine if fit problems have a laboratory or clinical cause. If the problem is from the laboratory, it may be correctable on a pristine cast.

Background: With the rising popularity of e-cigarettes, questions have emerged regarding their broader influence on oral ecology, nutrient absorption, and psychological health. Disruptions in the oral microbiome may alter vitamin B12 dynamics. This, in turn, may indirectly influence serotonin biosynthesis and mood regulation.

Methods: An observational cross-sectional study involved 150 young adults segregated into groups of 50 each as vapers, smokers, or non-users.
