An Analysis Of Trends Of Generic Drugs And Biologic Prices In The U.S., Mohammed Jamjoom
An Analysis Of Trends Of Generic Drugs And Biologic Prices In The U.S., Mohammed Jamjoom
Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) Dissertations
Introduction: Drug prices are a significant problem for the US healthcare system. Generic and biosimilar market competition reduces drug and biologic prices, results in substantial savings, and improves patient access and outcomes. As the costs of healthcare and prescription drugs continue to rise, the discussion about drug prices has taken a prominent place at the forefront of national discourse. This study assessed impacting trends in prices of generic, biosimilar, and reference products in the US. We also evaluated the effect of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 on biologic prices.
Methods: We extracted a list of the new generic …
The Role Of Cytochrome P450 2e1 In Hepatic Ischemia Reperfusion Injury And Reactive Oxygen Species Formation, Nouf Alwadei
The Role Of Cytochrome P450 2e1 In Hepatic Ischemia Reperfusion Injury And Reactive Oxygen Species Formation, Nouf Alwadei
Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) Dissertations
The mechanisms of hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, which occurs during liver transplantation or surgery, are poorly understood. The central pathophysiological phenomenon of this injury is the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recent studies suggest that P450 enzymes may contribute to ROS generation, which may occur through their uncoupling and/or release of heme and iron after their degradation. Among P450 enzymes, CYP2E1 is unique because it is considered a leaky enzyme, producing significant ROS through uncoupling in the absence of substrates, accelerating its own degradation and reducing its half-life. In this dissertation, we generated and characterized a HepG2 cell line …
An Investigation Of Resistance Training Behavior, Non-Specific Psychological Distress, And Perceived Barriers To Resistance Training In Self-Identifying Female Undergraduate Students, Jody Sobel
Master's Theses
The prevalence and severity of depression symptoms amongst college students, specifically female identifying undergraduate students, is worrisome. There is a great deal of research that suggests a relationship between exercise, specifically resistance training (RT), and mental health. That said, current literature suggests that many female identifying students are not engaging due to perceived barriers. This, perhaps because of the plethora of barriers one can perceive. The purpose of this study was multifold 1) to examine the prevalence and severity of non-specific psychological distress; 2) to determine if there were differences between Kessler 6 Non-Specific Psychological Distress Scale (K6) categories (i.e., …

Canine Heartworm Infection And Prophylaxis Use Among Pet Caretakers From The Cumberland Gap Region Of Tennessee, Usa, Charles T. Faulkner
Faculty Other Scholarly Content
The prevalence of infection with canine heartworm (CHW), Dirofilaria immitis, continues to increase across the United States, regardless of the availability of effective and affordable prophylactic products. Current reports of CHW prevalence as estimated by the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) are thought to under-represent the true magnitude of the issue because pet dogs that do not receive regular veterinary care are often excluded. This study estimated the prevalence of CHW in pet dogs and associated prophylaxis use in pet dogs in the Cumberland Gap Region with a combined doorstep diagnostic testing approach and caretaker survey. Dogs tested (n = …

Measuring Awareness Of Spd And Interprofessional Collaboration And Practices Among Professionals In An Elementary Public School Setting, Kyra Resende
Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders Undergraduate Honors Theses
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a neurological condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to sensory information, which can lead to sensory dysregulation (Rodden, 2023). Because everyone constantly receives sensory input, having SPD can impact a child’s life in numerous ways, such as academic and social success. Research indicates that 5% to 16% of students may have this neurological condition (Bunim, 2013), which is significant enough to expect that school professionals have appropriate awareness about SPD. Additionally, there is usually an overlap of professionals who serve students experiencing SPD, resulting in a need for interprofessional collaboration (IPC) …

Immunomodulatory Effects Of Resolvin D2 In A Model Of Infection, Prem Yugandhar Kadiyam Sundarasivarao
Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Theses and Dissertations
Dysregulated hyperinflammatory host immune response to underlying bacterial infections is a characteristic of sepsis. In sepsis, bacteria often trigger abnormal hyperinflammatory responses which can cause multiple organ failure and if sustained can lead to an immunosuppressive phase where the host is susceptible to secondary infections caused by opportunistic bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa). In our studies, we used a 2-hit model of cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) followed by P. aeruginosa secondary lung infection to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms in the beneficial action of resolvin D2 (RvD2). Resolvins of the D-series are a group of fatty acids known …

The Effect Of Weight Bias On The Prevalence Of Cardiovascular Disease, Manuela Paki Amouzou
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
The condition of obesity has been recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a multi-faceted chronic disease. Previous studies have shown an associational relationship between recorded weight bias in healthcare providers, in society at large, andtowards oneself and negative health outcomes. In addition, the increased rate of recorded obesity is often tied to the increased incidence of cardiovascular disease in the population. Therefore, it is imperative to discuss the causes of this relationship and an updated course of treatment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how the attitudes and beliefs of healthcare providers towards people who are …
Prefrontal Activation During Inhibition Of A Balance Recovery Step, Ezinne Abugu
Prefrontal Activation During Inhibition Of A Balance Recovery Step, Ezinne Abugu
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
The ability to quickly step is an important strategy to avoid a fall. However, real-world settings often constrain a stepping path. Such constraints necessitate response inhibition to prevent an inappropriate step and select a new course of action to ultimately recover balance. The present study investigated neural mechanisms that underlie this ability to stop a highly automatic balance recovery step. In the field of cognitive neuroscience, response inhibition has typically been researched using focal hand reaction tasks performed by seated participants. This approach combined with neuroimaging has revealed a neural stopping network, which includes the right Inferior Frontal Gyrus (right …

Inner Portraits, Bethany Salisbury
Inner Portraits, Bethany Salisbury
Graduate Theses
This paper investigates the many interconnected layers of women’s mental health through portraiture and how animal and plant symbolism can represent the way women's hormones and bodily health affect their mental health. I reveal how the artwork created presents these connections and inner mental health narratives to the viewer, creating a space of empathy, destigmatization, and self-reflection. This body of portraiture art connects five women through a series of both two-and three-dimensional portraits based on interviews using my own adaptation of Sara Lawrence-Lightfoots’ (1983) portrait methodology.
Women and non-binary individuals have always dealt with difficult interactions of bodily and mental …

The Efficacy Of Neuroleptics On Mental Health Disorders, Rathea Hersi
Honor’s College Freeman Research Journal
Mental health disorders affect a lot of people in the world and can be triggered by a wide variety of reasons. The treatment of mental health disorders varies based on the type of disorder one is dealing with, as well as the symptoms that each portrays. While history has changed how people view mental health disorders, it also shows that the models of treatment used have not always been beneficial to the wellness of human beings. Research shows that there are different ways in which mental health disorders affect the brain, which means that a study of the different parts …
