Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer. Known risk variants explain only a small fraction of lung adenocarcinoma heritability. Here, we conducted a two-stage genome-wide association study of lung adenocarcinoma of East Asian ancestry (21,658 cases and 150,676 controls; 54.5% never-smokers) and identified 12 novel susceptibility variants, bringing the total number to 28 at 25 independent loci. Transcriptome-wide association analyses together with colocalization studies using a Taiwanese lung expression quantitative trait loci dataset (n = 115) identified novel candidate genes, including FADS1 at 11q12 and ELF5 at 11p13. BACKGROUND: Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) use multidisciplinary teams to investigate and respond to maltreatment allegations. CACs play a critical role in connecting children with mental health needs to evidence-based mental health treatment, especially in low-resourced rural areas. Standardized mental health screening and referral protocols can improve CACs' capacity to identify children with mental health needs and encourage treatment engagement. In the team-based context of CACs, teamwork quality is likely to influence implementation processes and outcomes. Implementation strategies that target teams and apply the science of team effectiveness may enhance implementation outcomes in team-based settings.

There is an increasing interest in non-destructive and real-time high-resolution approaches for corrosion studies in metals. In this paper, we propose the dynamic speckle pattern method as a low-cost, easy-to-implement, and quasi in-situ optical technique for the quantitative evaluation of pitting corrosion. This type of corrosion occurs in a specific area of a metallic structure and causes holes formation leading to structural failure. Researchers at the Institute for the Prevention of Addictions have conducted surveys on health risk behaviors among Andrews University students from 1995 to 2023. In examinations of five data points between 1995 and 2018, the gap in the rates of substance use between Andrews University students and a general U.S. college population remained about the same each time period. However, both groups tended to increase or decrease use over the same time periods. The global increase in mental disorders includes a significant proportion of children and adolescents, and bullying in school is reported to be a contributory factor to mental disorders among children. Although bullying in Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, is anecdotally acknowledged, this public health, developmental, and education challenge has mainly been limited to the rite of passage for children, and not much has been done to identify risk factors for bullying perpetrators and victims in a school environment. The purpose of the study was to screen learners in Tshwane District, Pretoria, for bullying behavior.

This case report describes an uncommon occurrence of myiasis, specifically a maggot-infected abscess, in a patient with reduced skin sensitivity resulting from severe burns. Myiasis is the infestation of live animal tissue by fly larvae, and while it is primarily associated with tropical and subtropical regions, cases acquired within the United States are rare. The presented case involves a 70-year-old male who arrived at the emergency department with an intensely painful, non-healing wound in the left elbow. Upon examination, the wound was found to be infested with numerous live maggots, and subsequent investigations revealed the larvae to be of the …

Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by the neoplastic proliferation of plasma cells producing a monoclonal immunoglobulin. Although neurological complications are commonly seen in MM, they most frequently occur due to spinal cord compression by bony lesions, paraprotein-related neuropathy, hypercalcemia, hyper viscosity, or amyloidosis. Less than 1% of patients with MM present with a leptomeningeal disease. Background: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a prevalent chronic vascular disease that remains often underdiagnosed and inadequately treated. The development of PAD increases both with age and with the presence of modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. Risk factors for PAD include smoking, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and chronic kidney disease. Furthermore, PAD can be an indicator of systemic atherosclerosis which is associated with coronary artery disease, carotid stenosis, and cerebrovascular disease. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common type of cancer in children, accounting for approximately 25% of pediatric malignancies. Although glucocorticoids are commonly used to treat ALL, prolonged use can lead to steroid resistance, rendering the drug regimen ineffective. Therefore, alternative treatment avenues are needed for high- risk pediatric patients that do not respond well to traditional regimens.

BACKGROUND: Cannabis is increasingly used both medically and recreationally. With widespread use, there is growing concern about how to identify cannabis-impaired drivers.

METHODS: A placebo-controlled randomized double-blinded protocol was conducted to study the effects of cannabis on driving performance. One hundred ninety-one participants were randomized to smoke ad libitum a cannabis cigarette containing placebo or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (5.9% or 13.4%). Blood, oral fluid (OF), and breath samples were collected along with longitudinal driving performance on a simulator (standard deviation of lateral position [SDLP] and car following [coherence]) over a 5-hour period. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.

PURPOSE: The primary objective of this study was to determine the incidence and risk factors for incidental durotomies during lumbar decompression surgeries. In addition, we aimed to determine the changes in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) based on incidental durotomy status.

OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: There is limited literature investigating the affect of incidental durotomy on patient reported outcome measures. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technology has been applied in a range of fields for target detection and mixture analysis. While HSI was originally developed for remote sensing applications, modern uses include agriculture, historical document authentication, and medicine. The idea that race is not an issue, everyone is treated fairly, and the denial of racial differences is an act to refute that racism still perpetuates nursing education. Racial-ethnic minority student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNA) face unique challenges in their didactic and clinical training, including microaggressions, discrimination, and bias, all of which white students do not have to face during their educational experiences (Carter & McMillian-Bohler, 2020). Due to the high risk of cardiovascular disease and other negative complications, it is imperative that patients in the primary care clinic diagnosed with hypertension control blood pressure levels. The purpose of this scholarly project was to increase the initiation of self-management goals (SMGs) among adult males and females age 30 to 60 diagnosed with hypertension.
