In a prior practice and policy article published in Healthcare Science, we introduced the deployed application of an artificial intelligence (AI) model to predict longer-term inpatient readmissions to guide community care interventions for patients with complex conditions in the context of Singapore's Hospital to Home (H2H) program that has been operating since 2017. Endoglin, also known as cluster of differentiation 105 (CD105), is an auxiliary receptor in the TGFβ signaling pathway. It is predominantly expressed in endothelial cells as a component of the heterotetrameric receptor dimers comprising type I, type II receptors and the binding ligands. Mutations in ENG, the gene encoding endoglin, have been associated with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia type 1 (HHT1), a rare autosomal dominant inherited disorder affecting about 1 in 5000-8000 individuals, which is generally characterized by vascular malformations. The focus on using alternative natural products for cancer prevention and treatment has been increasing over the past decade. Among these natural products, Manuka honey (MH) has been extensively investigated for its antimicrobial, wound healing, and anticancer effects. The current study aimed to characterize the immunomodulatory capacity of MH using both in vitro and in vivo approaches and investigate its potential to modulate anti-tumor immune responses in a preclinical model of colorectal cancer. Sample sizes vary substantially across tissues in the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) project, where considerably fewer samples are available from certain inaccessible tissues, such as the substantia nigra (SSN), than from accessible tissues, such as blood. This severely limits power for identifying tissue-specific expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) in undersampled tissues. Here we propose Surrogate Phenotype Regression Analysis (Spray) for leveraging information from a correlated surrogate outcome (eg, expression in blood) to improve inference on a partially missing target outcome (eg, expression in SSN). Motivation: Spatial transcriptomics (ST) can reveal the existence and extent of spatial variation of gene expression in complex tissues. Such analyses could help identify spatially localized processes underlying a tissue's function. Existing tools to detect spatially variable genes assume a constant noise variance across spatial locations. This assumption might miss important biological signals when the variance can change across locations.

CASE SUMMARY: We describe a case of contained rupture of a large left ventricular aneurysm (LVA) presenting with syncope in a 60-year-old male with late presentation myocardial infarction (MI) 6 weeks prior on home triple antithrombotic therapy (TAT). Gait retraining can be effective in altering lower extremity biomechanics and reducing risk of injury. In attempts to alter running gait, previous studies used metronomes to manipulate cadence.

Research question

The aim of this study was to determine if manipulating running cadence via music could alter lower extremity biomechanics.

Methods

Cognitive motor integration (CMI), the simultaneous coordination between cerebral function and motor output, is known to deteriorate following a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). This thesis explores the relationship between mTBI, CMI, and the performance of elite athletes in the National Hockey League (NHL). The approach focuses on examining the predictive value of various supervised Machine Learning (ML) models with an emphasis on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) models.
