Background: The number of cancer survivors has increased drastically as a result of advances in early detection and treatment strategies. Nevertheless, many survivors in the cancer survivorship population face unique problems, risks, and needs. The study for this short report obtained qualitative data to assess barriers and facilitators to cancer care survivorship in urban and rural communities from a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Cancer Center Catchment Area in the southeastern United States.

Activated carbon supports for Si deposition with different porosities were prepared, and the effect of porosity on the electrochemical characteristics was investigated. The porosity of the support is a key parameter affecting the Si deposition mechanism and the stability of the electrode. In the Si deposition mechanism, as the porosity of activated carbon increases, the effect of particle size reduction due to the uniform dispersion of Si was confirmed. This implies that the porosity of activated carbon can affect the rate performance. Nuclear compartments are prominent features of 3D chromatin organization, but sequencing depth limitations have impeded investigation at ultra fine-scale. CTCF loops are generally studied at a finer scale, but the impact of looping on proximal interactions remains enigmatic. Here, we critically examine nuclear compartments and CTCF loop-proximal interactions using a combination of in situ Hi-C at unparalleled depth, algorithm development, and biophysical modeling. Producing a large Hi-C map with 33 billion contacts in conjunction with an algorithm for performing principal component analysis on sparse, super massive matrices (POSSUMM), we resolve compartments to 500 bp. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an independent risk factor for the development of hypertension. We have demonstrated that OSA induces gut dysbiosis, and this dysbiotic microbiota contributes to hypertension. However, the mechanisms linking gut dysbiosis to blood pressure regulation remain unclear. Recent studies demonstrate that gut dysbiosis can induce a proinflammatory response of the host resulting in peripheral and neuroinflammation, key factors in the development of hypertension. We hypothesized that OSA induces inflammation in the gut that contributes to neuroinflammation and hypertension.

This study constitutes the first attempt to describe the overlapping deprivations faced by Lebanese children (Lebanese) and that of the three sub-populations of refugees living in Lebanon: Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon, Palestinian refugees from Syria and Syrian refugees.

Acute Suppurative Thyroiditis Secondary To Gemella With Extensive Complications, Amber Champion

A young woman developed thyroid storm secondary to acute suppurative thyroiditis, with Gemella morbillorum bacteremia. Her case was complicated by neck abscess, Lemierre syndrome (septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein), mediastinitis, and pleural effusion. She was treated for thyroid storm including steroids and antibiotics. The infectious complications required several surgical procedures and interventions and a prolonged hospital stay, but she ultimately made a full recovery. Complications from suppurative thyroiditis can be rapid and widespread; swift recognition and treatment by a multidisciplinary team can help to prevent complications.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic Calcitriol Induced Hypercalcemia is a rare cause of a common condition of hypercalcemia. Hypercalcemia is most commonly the result of hyperparathyroidism and together with hypercalcemia of malignancy accounts for over 95% of cases. Idiopathic Calcitriol Induced Hypercalcemia can mimic hypercalcemia secondary to granulomatous diseases like sarcoidosis, but with apparent absences of both imaging and physical exam findings consistent with the disease. Mesenchymal cells, specifically fibroblasts, accumulate in the injured tissues, where they engage in tissue repair through the expression and assembly of extracellular matrices that provide a scaffold for cell adhesion, the re-epithelialization of tissues, the production of soluble bioactive mediators that promote cellular recruitment and differentiation, and the regulation of immune responses. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a monogenic recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the CF Transmembrane-conductance Regulator gene (CFTR). Remarkable progress in basic research has led to the discovery of highly effective CFTR modulators. Now ~90% of CF patients are treatable. However, these modulator therapies are not curative and do not cover the full spectrum of CFTR mutations. Thus, there is a continued need to develop a complete and durable therapy that can treat all CF patients once and for all. Steroid receptor coactivator 3 (SRC-3) is most strongly expressed in regulatory T cells (Tregs) and B cells, suggesting that it plays an important role in the regulation of Treg function. Using an aggressive E0771 mouse breast cell line syngeneic immune-intact murine model, we observed that breast tumors were "permanently eradicated" in a genetically engineered tamoxifen-inducible Treg-cell-specific SRC-3 knockout (KO) female mouse that does not possess a systemic autoimmune pathological phenotype.
