Orthohantaviruses are negative-sense, single stranded RNA viruses with trisegmented genomes that can cause severe disease in humans and are carried by several host reservoirs throughout the world. In the United States, Sin Nombre orthohantavirus (SNV) is the primary cause of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) with a fatality rate of ~36% and the highest cases occuring in the southwest region. The primary SNV host reservoir is thought to be the western deer mouse, Peromyscus maniculatus, however it has been shown that other rodents can carry different orthohantaviruses. World Drug Report estimates the number of opioid users at 53 million and identifies opioids as responsible for two thirds of the 585,000 people who died as a result of drug use in 2017.

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to analyze the testimonies of 30 people regarding their journeys from drug addiction to drug withdrawal in Taiwan.

COVID-19 drastically altered the way consumers shopped for food as they had to adhere to recommendations for social distancing. However, the public has been divided across political parties in their assessment of the severity of COVID-19 and must filter through misinformation related to the pandemic to make informed choices for personal safety. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the influences on Oklahoma consumers’ risk information-seeking behaviors about COVID-19 within the context of risk perceptions while shopping for food. Job dissatisfaction among critical care nurses can result in poor mental health, increased incidences of burnout, increased stress levels, and lower quality patient care. Evidence supports mindfulness practices and their ability to improve job satisfaction by promoting calmness, decreasing stress, and reducing anxiety. In a cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU) in a large teaching hospital in the New York metro area, there was no strategy in place to address low job satisfaction among nurses.

Although child and adulthood exposure to TLEs is considered a risk factor for the subsequent development of psychosis, few studies have examined the association between trauma and psychosis in the African population.

Introduction: International guidelines recommend a multi-faceted approach for successful diagnoses of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). In the absence of a gold standard test, a combination of genetic testing/microscopic analysis of structure and function/nasal nitric oxide measurement is used. In resourcelimited settings, often none of the above tests are available, and in South Africa, only transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is available in central anatomical pathology departments. In globally distributed deep-sea hydrothermal vent plumes, microbiomes are shaped by the redox energy landscapes created by reduced hydrothermal vent fluids mixing with oxidized seawater. Plumes can disperse over thousands of kilometers and their characteristics are determined by geochemical sources from vents, e.g., hydrothermal inputs, nutrients, and trace metals. However, the impacts of plume biogeochemistry on the oceans are poorly constrained due to a lack of integrated understanding of microbiomes, population genetics, and geochemistry. Here, we use microbial genomes to understand links between biogeography, evolution, and metabolic connectivity, and elucidate their impacts on biogeochemical cycling in the deep sea. Using …

BackgroundOne in three adults in the United States had a mental illness or substance use disorder in 2021 and co-occurring disorders affect 7.6% of the adult population. Substance use disorders are more common in individuals with mental health problems, and serious mental illness is three times more prevalent in adults with substance use disorder (SUD). Background

It is unclear if chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) endotypes show differential response to endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). We explored mucus inflammatory cytokine expression in a cohort with CRS and associations with both patient-reported and clinically measured postoperative outcome measures.

Methods

Patients with CRS were prospectively recruited between 2016-2021 into a multi-center observational study. Mucus was collected from the olfactory cleft preoperatively and evaluated for 26 biomarkers using cluster analysis. Patient reported outcome measures included the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) and Questionnaire of Olfactory Dysfunction (QOD). Background: Truck driving is a highly sedentary occupation that places workers at risk for chronic health conditions, such as obesity and high blood pressure. The primary purpose of this study was to objectively describe truck drivers’ typical physical activity (PA) patterns. Methods: We used w7e10-day baseline PA actigraphy data samples from drivers in the Safety & Health Involvement For Truckers (SHIFT) study (n ¼ 394). Driver PA patterns (e.g., average number of 10 minute Freedson bouts per week, time in bouts, and common days/times for PA) were summarized with descriptive analyses. BACKGROUND: Cesarean delivery is a major source of maternal morbidity, and repeat cesarean delivery accounts for 40% of cesarean delivery, but recent data on the trial of labor after cesarean and vaginal birth after cesarean are limited.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to report the national rates of trial of labor after cesarean and vaginal birth after cesarean by number of previous cesarean deliveries and examine the effect of demographic and clinical characteristics on these rates.

High Mobility Group Box 1 (HMGB1) is a redox-sensitive molecule that plays dual roles in tissue healing and inflammation. We previously demonstrated that HMGB1 is stable when anchored by a well-characterized imidazolium-based ionic liquid (IonL), which serves as a delivery vehicle for exogenous HMGB1 to the site of injury and prevents denaturation from surface adherence. However, HMGB1 exists in different isoforms [fully reduced HMGB1 (FR), a recombinant version of FR resistant to oxidation (3S), disulfide HMGB1 (DS), and inactive sulfonyl HMGB1(SO)] that have distinct biological functions in health and disease. This study sought to explore the lived experiences of Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER) during postpartum breastfeeding. A phenomenological method based on Giorgi’s phenomenological underpinnings was used. The setting for this study was virtual interviews in a secure online platform. The sample consisted of 13 participants, self-identifying as experiencing D-MER. Semi-structured interviews, with thematic analysis of transcription were conducted. Four major themes were identified: 1) Breastfeeding concessions and toleration; 2) Something does not feel “normal”; 3) I remember a feeling like this before 4) This is real, and recognition is validating.
