When considering peri-and-post natal health, there are several biopsychosocial risk factors at play. Biological, psychological, and social health factors are significant in contributing to maternal wellbeing and influencing maternal morbidity/mortality [1]. The Covid-19 pandemic had significant impacts on general populations and on vulnerable groups such as pre-peri-and-post natal women [2]. In previous epidemics, pregnant women were reluctant to attend hospitals and doctors’ appointments due to fear of infection [3]. Emerging evidence indicates a previously unrecognized, clinically relevant spectrum of abnormal aldosterone secretion associated with hypertension severity. It is not known whether excess aldosterone secretion contributes to hypertension during pregnancy. We quantified aldosterone concentrations and angiotensin peptides in serum (using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry) in a cohort of 128 pregnant women recruited from a high-risk obstetrics clinic and followed prospectively for the development of gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, superimposed pre-eclampsia, chronic hypertension, or remaining normotensive. The potential of flat sheet polymeric membranes as a sustainable solution for reusable facemask filters was investigated by analyzing the effect of common face mask regeneration processes on polysulfone (PSf) membranes’ structure, morphology, and aerosol filtration efficiency. The impact of regeneration processes, such as isopropanol (IPA), detergent and bleach washes, and ultraviolet light exposure, was for the first time compared between surgical masks, N95 masks and flat sheet PSf membranes. Linear and nonlinear optical line shapes reveal details of excitonic structure in polymer semiconductors. We implement absorption, photoluminescence, and transient absorption spectroscopies in DPP-DTT, an electron push−pull copolymer, to explore the relationship between their spectral line shapes and chain conformation, deduced from resonance Raman spectroscopy and from ab initio calculations. The viscosity of precursor polymer solutions before film casting displays a transition that suggests gel formation above a critical concentration. Upon crossing this viscosity deflection concentration, the line shape analysis of the absorption spectra within a photophysical aggregate model reveals a gradual increase in interchain excitonic coupling. Catechol is a widespread atmospheric dihydroxybenzene present in vehicle emissions, biomass burning, and combustion pollution plumes. Although the daytime reactivity of catechol is controlled by ozone (O3) and hydroxyl radicals (HO), the action of nitrate radicals (NO3) on the surface of aqueous atmospheric particles should become significant at night. This work simulates nighttime interfacial chemistry between hydrated catechol and adsorbed NO3 to form 4-nitrocatechol during experiments lasting ≤1 μs. Surface-sensitive online electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (OESI-MS) examines the reaction on the water surface under variable ratios of [NO2] and [O3]. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are anthropogenic compounds developed for various applications; some are connected to adverse health impacts including immunosuppression and higher susceptibility to some cancers. Current PFAS remediation treatments from aqueous sources include granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption, membrane separation, and anion- exchange resin (AER) removal. Each has specific disadvantages, hence the need for a new and efficient technology. Metabolic pathways are a human-defined grouping of life sustaining biochemical reactions, metabolites being both the reactants and products of these reactions. But many public datasets include identified metabolites whose pathway involvement is unknown, hindering metabolic interpretation. To address these shortcomings, various machine learning models, including those trained on data from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), have been developed to predict the pathway involvement of metabolites based on their chemical descriptions; however, these prior models are based on old metabolite KEGG-based datasets, including one benchmark dataset that is invalid due to the presence of over 1500 duplicate entries. …

Introduction: Adenosine deaminase (ADA)-deficient severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is characterized by severe lymphocytopenia affecting T-, and B-,lymphocytes, with non-immunological manifestations including neurodevelopmental deficits, sensorineural deafness, and skeletal abnormalities. Treatment modalities include enzyme replacement therapy(ERT) and/or autologous gene therapy or hematopoietic stem cell treatment. We report a 9-month-old female with ADA deficient T-B-NK+ SCID treated with ERT while awaiting stem cell treatment. This quantitative correlational study explored the relationships between perceived psychological safety, conflict management styles, and perceived conflict management success among nurse practitioners (NPs) operating in interprofessional acute or critical care teams in the United States. Despite existing literature on conflict management and psychological safety, there is a noticeable gap concerning the interplay of these factors, specifically among NPs. A multi-item survey was developed from validated measures to assess psychological safety, conflict management success, and conflict management style. The final sample included 944 NPs. While Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is often employed as complementary therapy for glycemic control, its effect in controlling likelihood of dementia has not yet been fully elucidated. BACKGROUND: Many surgical techniques have been described for acromioclavicular (AC) joint reconstruction. Creation of bone tunnels through the clavicle or coracoid has been shown to be a risk factor for fracture. Use of an AC reconstruction technique that does not create bone tunnels may obviate this risk. This study aims to evaluate clinical outcomes of AC joint reconstruction using a tunnel-free technique compared to reconstruction using a cortical button and clavicular drill holes.

Since the development of cognitive skills, including executive function, is grounded in early motor and sensorimotor experiences, early delays or impairments in motor and sensorimotor processing often trigger dynamic developmental cascades that lead to suboptimal executive function outcomes. 1. We examined the health of mature blue ash, Fraxinus quadrangulata, in two forests in southwestern Ohio in relation to that of mature white ash, F. americana, and examined the potential importance of oviposition preferences and larval resistance in the persistence of blue ash.
2. Both blue ash and white ash were largely unaffected by emerald ash borer in 2012. By 2018, nearly 90% of the blue ash trees observed in these forests had full or nearly full canopies, as opposed to less than 20% of the white ash encountered in our studies. In 2021, blue ash maintained a …

Purpose: The metabolic alterations due to chronic hyperglycemia are well-known to cause diabetes-associated complications. Short-term hyperglycemia has also been shown to cause many acute changes, including hemodynamic alterations and osmotic, oxidative, and inflammatory stress. The present study was designed to investigate whether diabetes-associated hyperglycemia can cause rapid-onset detrimental effects on the tear film, goblet cells, and glycocalyx and can lead to activation of an inflammatory cascade or cellular stress response in the cornea.

This study aimed to compare patients who underwent a pre-operative bowel cleanout to those who did not and the relationship with post-operative nausea, vomiting and constipation requiring an escalation of their bowel regimen. DeGAUSS offers a privacy-preserving capability to annotate a list of addresses with geomarker information that is useful for social determinants and other research. The standard delivery of DeGAUSS requires command line proficiency, potentially limiting the group of users. We provide a self-service portal that enables researchers to load a file and receive a downloadable annotated output file. In our pilot phase, the system has processed 481 calls for more than 45,000 addresses at Children’s Mercy.

Background: CFTR modulators are life-changing therapy for people with CF. During preclinical studies of ivacaftor, cataracts were identified in juvenile rat pups. Subsequently, noncongenital cataracts have been reported in children receiving CFTR modulator therapy [1], so baseline and annual slit lamp eye examinations for cataract development are recommended for children with CF (aged <18). At Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC), our standard practice is to conduct baseline and annual ophthalmologic examinations to assess for cataracts in children with CF prescribed CFTR modulator therapy, but there was no formal process for tracking adherence to this standard and ensuring that examinations were completed. A quality improvement project was undertaken in May 2022 to determine the rate of completion of annual eye exams and increase adherence to our annual monitoring standard.

Methods: To improve adherence to annual monitoring standards, a quality improvement taskforce including CF care team nurses and pharmacists was developed. Burnout has elicited growing interest among occupational health specialists in recent decades. Since 2019, the World Health Organization has characterized burnout as a syndrome resulting from chronic, unmanageable workplace stress. According to the ICD-11, three symptoms define the entity: feelings of exhaustion, increased mental distance from one’s job, and a sense of ineffectiveness at work, all of which correspond to the structure of the Maslach Burnout Inventory. The ICD-11 includes burnout among the factors that influence health status. This paper calls into question that conceptualization based on a number of lines of evidence.
