During the course of the steeplechase track event athletes pass through one water jump obstacle per each of seven laps. There are many different elements of technique that can be used to improve maintenance of horizontal velocity through each obstacle. The most common way to assess cardiovascular fitness is with a maximal graded exercise test (GXT) to determine the maximal rate of oxygen consumption (VO₂ max). Oxygen supplementation has been used to improve physical performances for decades, most commonly in the form of bottled oxygen. Other forms of inhalable and/or ingestible oxygen have been investigated more recently with mixed results. An ingestible oxygen supplement (Ox66_TM) consisting of oxygen molecules contained within an aluminum ion clathrate structure has been shown to increase SaO₂ at rest and reduce inflammation in clinical settings. While the data has shown that the overall prevalence of depression is 6% in adolescents, these statistics are primarily based on white children. Latino children are more likely to suffer anxiety, depression and other mental health disorders compared to their non-Latino peers. The local sweat rate response (LSR) to intradermal electrical stimulation generates a sigmodal stimulus-response curve with a peak sweat rate generated by a 30 s period of continuous stimuli at a frequency of 8-16 Hz. The firing pattern of the sudomotor nerve driving sweat gland function in vivo, however, display a bursting firing pattern. We report a case of a male in his thirties who presented with rapidly progressive encephalopathy, mediastinal abscess, and multiple ring-enhancing lesions throughout the brain. Extensive evaluation revealed Streptococcus intermedius septic emboli to the brain from dental sources via a right-to-left anatomic shunt. The patient completed an 11-week course of IV antibiotic therapy after which he made a near complete recovery. We provide a comprehensive review of the literature with Streptococcus intermedius CNS septic emboli and source of infection.

Verb production impairments in aphasia have important implications for sentence production and communication in general. Verbs with low concreteness may be especially important for certain functional uses, and yet limited data regarding their response to treatment are available. This study was designed to examine a novel behavioral treatment approach to improve low concreteness verb naming in persons with aphasia.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, primarily due to its propensity for metastasis. Patients diagnosed with localized primary cancer have higher survival rates than those with metastasis. Thus, it is imperative to discover biomarkers for the early detection of NSCLC and the timely prediction of tumor metastasis to improve patient outcomes.

Methods: Here, we utilized an integrated approach to isolate and characterize plasma exosomes from NSCLC patients as well as healthy individuals. We then conducted proteomics analysis and parallel reaction monitoring to identify and validate the top-ranked proteins of plasma exosomes.

MRI scanner hardware, field strengths, and sequence parameters are major variables in diffusion studies of the spinal cord. Reliability between scanners is not well known, particularly for the thoracic cord. DTI data was collected for the entire cervical and thoracic spinal cord in thirty healthy adult subjects with different MR vendors and field strengths. DTI metrics were extracted and averaged for all slices within each vertebral level. Metrics were examined for variability and then harmonized using longitudinal ComBat (longComBat). Increasing evidence suggests that tumors harbor diverse microbiomes, adding complexity to the tumor microenvironment. In this issue of Cancer Cell, Liu et al. highlight the role of the intratumor mycobiome, specifically Aspergillus sydowii, in promoting lung adenocarcinoma progression. A. sydowii enhances the recruitment and activation of myeloid-derived suppressor cells via IL-1β signaling driven by the β-glucan-mediated Dectin-1/CARD9 pathway.
