Purpose: This study compared stress and eating behaviors pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic in college students. METHODS: This was a non-experimental comparative study. Participants were invited to the laboratory for a single visit to measure eating behaviors and stress indicators. Four instruments were used in this study: The Weight and Lifestyle Inventory questionnaire, the Mindfulness Eating Questionnaire, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire, and the Perceived Stress Scale. Independent t-test and a two-way ANOVA were used to compare participants who were tested before the COVID-19 pandemic declaration and after. Social jetlag (SJL), or the shifting of behavior and sleep times between weekdays and weekends, is a pervasive form of circadian rhythm disruption that affects nearly 70% of the population to some extent. The magnitude of SJL can be determined by the difference in the mid-sleep phase between weekends and weekdays. Higher levels of SJL have been associated with lower levels of cardiorespiratory fitness, and increased incidence of cardiometabolic disease, which may be due, in part, to mitochondrial dysfunction. The acute effects of heat therapy on glycemic markers oppose those of the chronic effects. While the postprandial glucose response is exaggerated during whole body heat exposure, chronic heat exposure lowers HbA1c. Additionally, the acute effects of heat therapy differ depending on the amount of body exposed to heat. Heating a single hand does not increase fasting glucose and lowers postprandial glucose. The opposing effects of partial and whole body heat exposure could be mediated in part from increased sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity following heat stress. Background: Arthrogryposis is a term used to describe the development of nonprogressive contractures in one or more body parts before birth (congenitally). A contracture is a condition in which a joint becomes permanently stuck in a bent (flexed) or straightened (extended) position, limiting movement of the affected joint totally or partially. When congenital contractures affect only one body part, they are referred to as isolated congenital contractures rather than arthrogryposis. This current manuscript summarizes the proceedings of the “Third Muscle-bone interactions in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Symposium: Moving Beyond the 2018 Minimum International Standards of Care for Osteoporosis Management”, an event co-organized by the World Duchenne Organization (www.worldduchenne.org) and the International Conference on Children’s Bone Health (www.theiscbh.org).
