Fixed Detachable Prosthesis Versus Implant-Supported Overdenture For Rehabilitation Of Edentulous Maxilla Opposing 2-Implant Mandibular Overdenture: A Cross-Over Study Of Chewing Efficiency And Maximum Bite Force, Fatma Mahanna
Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Objective: This study assessed the chewing efficiency and maximum bite force of maxillary implant-supported bar overdentures, and fixed hybrid prostheses opposed by a mandibular overdenture supported by 2 implants. Materials and methods: Six completely edentulous patients enrolled from a previous study installed with a mandibular overdenture comprising two implants. Four parallel maxillary implants were placed in the canines and second premolars region. Each patient randomly received a bar overdenture (BOD) and a fixed hybrid prosthesis (FHP). Using chewing gum and View Gum software, the chewing efficiency was assessed in terms of variance of hue (VOH). Using an occlusal force meter, …

The Effectiveness Of Dental Pulp Stem Cells-Derived Exosomes For Direct Pulp Capping: In Vitro Study, Dina A. Hammouda, Alaa M. Mansour, Mohammed E. Grawish, Ahmed R. Zaher
Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Objective: This in vitro investigation's goal was to ascertain how well dental pulp stem cell exosomes (DPSC-exo) modulate endogenous dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and direct their navigation toward mineralized tissue regeneration, either alone or in conjunction with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). Materials and methods: For this investigation, DPSCs were harvested using rat incisors. To extract exosomes from DPSCs, an ultracentrifugation method was employed. Flow cytometry was used for the characterization of DPSCs-exo, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to measure their size. DPSCs were incubated in standard culture media and split up into three groups. The first one …

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare biocompatibility of gel form chelating agents (EDTA and chitosan NPS) after implantation of polyethylene tubes in rats. Materials and methods: Twenty albino rats were included in this study. Three horizontal incisions were performed on dorsal surface of each rat to receive three polyethylene tubes as subcutaneous implants; two of them filled with tested materials and one empty tube served as control. After 2 and 4 weeks of subcutaneous implantation, 10 rats were sacrificed and implanted polyethylene tubes with surrounding tissues were dissected with 1 cm safety margin. The specimens …

The Use Of Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene Membrane (E-Ptfe) As A Barrier Membrane For Critical Size Defects Following Jaw Cyst Enucleation, Sara Salem, Ayman Ahmed Yaseen, Mohamed Abdel-Monem Tawfik
Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Purpose: The use of bone graft following cyst enucleation could lead to infection so, this study was conducted to investigate impact of (e-PTFE) membrane alone without bone graft in promoting bone healing compared to the spontaneous bone regeneration after cyst enucleation.
Materials and methods: Sixteen intra-bony cysts in 16 patients (6 males, 10 females) were included. In study group (e-PTFE) barrier membrane was used alone after enucleation while, in control group the conventional technique was used. The follow up Period was 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Clinically, pain, soft tissue healing, and membrane exposure were assessed. Radiographically, CBCT scans were …

Variations In Root Anatomy Of Mandibular Third Molars Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography And Personal Identification: A Cross-Sectional Study Amongst Egyptians, Shimaa M Motawei, Bassant Mowafey, Fatma Ata, Mohammad Osama, Osama A. Shabka
Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Objective: To assess the root canal anatomy and root morphology of mandibular third molars (MTMs) in the Egyptians using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: A total of 338 CBCT scans of mandibular third molars (MTMs) were collected and evaluated regarding the related root(s) number and root canal configuration. Statistical analysis highlighted differences between different categories and their prevalence among genders and sides (significance level was set at p < 0.05). Data were presented as frequency and percentage values and were analyzed using a chisquare test followed by pairwise comparisons utilizing multiple Fisher’s exact tests with Bonferroni correction. The significance level was set at p < 0.05 within all tests. Results: A total of 338 MTMs [186 (55%) from male patients, 152 (45%) from female patients] from 279 patients (151 male and 128 female) were evaluated. The majority (82.84%) of the studied MTMs had two roots. single-, triple-, and quadruple-rooted MTMs were less common than double-rooted MTMs, accounting for 10.1%, 5.33%, and 1.18% of the sample, respectively. Regarding root canal anatomy, Vertucci type I was the most seen morphology (61% of all MTMs roots mostly in distal roots (42.41%), followed by Vertucci type III (13.08%). The chi-square test showed no significant difference between males and females (p=0.36) or between the right side and left sides (p=0.691) regarding the number of roots. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the present study, the findings conclude significant variability in the root and root canal anatomy of mandibular third molars (MTMs) within the Egyptian sub-population.
