As the use of robotics in total hip arthroplasty (THA) continues to gain popularity, differences in clinical outcomes when compared to manual techniques have remained unclear. This study aimed to compare postoperative complications between patients undergoing robotic-assisted techniques and manual THA for primary osteoarthritis at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years.

Methods

Using an all-payer national database, we identified 405,048 patients who underwent either robotic-assisted or manual THA for primary osteoarthritis. This study investigated the influence of speed sintering on the microstructure and optical properties of ultra-translucent multi-layered cubic zirconia. Dysplasia In Oral Lichen Planus In A Sample Of Egyptians Attending 2 Tertiary Care Centers In Cairo, Dalia Ghalwash, Ayman El-Gawish

The present retrospective study aimed to evaluate dysplastic changes in oral lichen planus (OLP) lesions and related risk factors in a sample of Egyptians. The records of patients with histological diagnosis of OLP, who attended the Oral Medicine and Periodontology Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, and Faculty of Dentistry, the British University in Egypt, in the period from 2020 to 2023 were used. The frequency of dysplasia was 10.19% and was statistically not associated with age, gender or smoking. Our results showed that the erosive type registered the highest rate (p<0.001), followed by atrophic, whereas papular type did not show dysplasia. Also, the most common site for dysplasia was the buccal mucosa and tongue (p<0.001 and p=0.001, respectively), then gingiva, lips, and floor of the mouth. Given the importance of OLP, among the Egyptian population seeking care in our clinics, more research should be conducted to create a database of statistical information.

The optical imaging agent TcapQ488 has enabled imaging of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) injury in vivo in rodents and has potential as an effective diagnostic probe for early detection and intervention monitoring in glaucoma patients. In the present study, we investigated TcapQ488 in non-human primates (NHPs) to identify labeling efficacy and early signals of injured RGC, to determine species-dependent changes in RGC probe uptake and clearance, and to determine dose-limiting toxicities. Exceeding physiological limits of the cell membrane potential compromises structural integrity, enabling the passage of normally impermeant solutes and disrupting cell function. Electropermeabilization has been studied extensively at the cellular scale, but not at the individual membrane lesion level. We employed fast total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) imaging of Ca(2+) entry transients to discern individual lesions in a hyperpolarized cell membrane and characterize their focality, thresholds, electrical conductance, and the lifecycle. A diffuse and momentary membrane permeabilization without a distinct pore formation was observed already at a -100 mV threshold. Polarizing down to -200 mV created focal pores with a …
