Viz.AI is a platform that uses artificial intelligence to automatically detect LVOs with computed tomography (CT) imaging. Introduction: Providing pathology results and appropriate recommendations after resection of colon polyps is mandatory. Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and Google Bard, have shown promise in clinical workflows such as pathology results letters. We tested whether LLMs could provide appropriate surveillance recommendations based on current guidelines from the US multi-society task force for post-colonoscopy follow-up. Methods: Our aim was to compare the accuracy of ChatGPT 3.5, ChatGPT 4, and Google Bard in providing appropriate interval surveillance recommendations. An example prompt being “Write a patient pathology result letter after a colonoscopy with one tubular adenoma polyp (< 10mm) resected. Include recommendations for when the next surveillance colonoscopy should be completed.” Seventeen different post polypectomy surveillance queries and responses were analyzed (correct, partially correct, incorrect) compared to USMSTF guidelines. Intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) is an underrecognized disease that shares many clinical, radiologic, endoscopic, and pathologic features with Crohn's disease, making differentiation difficult. This poses a significant problem as initiation of immunosuppressives for an assumed diagnosis of CD in a patient with ITB can lead to exacerbation of infection and life-threatening consequences. A 30-year-old Nepali man with a medical history only significant for Raynaud disease presented with a febrile illness, right lower quadrant abdominal pain, and productive cough over the course of a month. BACKGROUND: While menstruation is a physiologic process, it remains highly stigmatized. Despite the sheer number of menstruators, menstruation is a highly individualized experience, with wide variation in duration, symptoms, and management. This wide variability lends itself to large disparities in access to menstruation management products and subsequently the lived experience of menstruators.

OBJECTIVES: The research team sought to understand lived menstrual experiences, symptoms, management tactics, and commonly used and desired resources among 20 cisgendered women aged 18-45 years in Philadelphia.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution constrains FDA’s power to impose content-based restrictions on physicians’ professional speech – that is, on the expert medical advice licensed physicians render to patients during clinical treatment encounters. In 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clarified its plans to regulate clinical decision support (CDS) software by publishing a final guidance document. Highly portable and accessible MRI technology will allow researchers to conduct field-based MRI research in community settings. Previous guidance for researchers working with fixed MRI does not address the novel ethical, legal, and societal issues (ELSI) of portable MRI (pMRI). Our interdisciplinary Working Group (WG) previously identified 15 core ELSI challenges associated with pMRI research and recommended solutions. In this article, we distill those detailed recommendations into a Portable MRI Research ELSI Checklist that offers practical operational guidance for researchers contemplating using this technology.

This article explores two questions: (1) whether portable MRI research might escape regulatory oversight altogether under existing U.S. privacy and research ethical frameworks, leaving research participants without adequate protections, and (2) whether existing regulatory frameworks, when they do apply, can guard society’s broader interest in ensuring that portable MRI research pursues socially beneficial, ethically sound aims that minimize the potential for externalities affecting nonparticipating individuals and groups, who might be stigmatized or otherwise harmed even if they decline participation in the research.

Urine osmolality is used throughout research to determine hydration levels. Prior studies have found black individuals to have elevated urine creatinine and osmolality, but it remains unclear which factors explain these findings. This cross-sectional, observational study sought to understand the relationship of self-reported race to urine creatinine and urine osmolality after accounting for age, socioeconomic status, and fluid intake. Data from 1,386 participants of the 2009–2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were utilized. Age, poverty-to-income ratio (PIR), urine flow rate (UFR), fluid intake, estimated lean body mass (LBM), urine creatinine, and urine osmolality were measured. In a sex-specific manner, …

Introduction: Guided by a communications-focused framework developed by an interdisciplinary team of authors, this paper presents data from a survey of health science faculty members to better understand how research collaborations are established and maintained. Methods: An electronic survey was distributed to faculty in six colleges at a Research 1 institution. Quantitative data were downloaded into Excel and then RStudio for descriptive analysis. Open-ended, qualitative responses were coded and analyzed for themes. Results: Most respondents were in public health (44.0%) or medicine (25.3%); 40.0% were tenured. Optimal cellular mechanotransduction is essential for tendon matrix homeostasis. We recently developed an in vivo rat model of tendinosis, where the plantaris tendon are overloaded through ablation of the synergistic Achilles tendon. Using this model we determined that tissue overload disrupts matrix-cell interactions, which results in under-stimulation of tendon cells (tenocytes) (Fig.1)

Using an ex vivo model of tendon stress deprivation by maintaining tail tendon fascicles in floating culture we showed that tenocyte under-stimulation results in destabilization of filamentous (F-)actin (Fig.2). Progress is typically assessed through functional outcome measures such as the 10-meter or 6-minute walk tests1.
