Clinical Practice in Athletic Training

Context: Athletic trainers (ATs) who complete accredited residency training in a specialty area are considered clinical specialists, yet more information is needed to determine whether they are practicing within the higher capacity expected of a specialist. While some quantitative evidence demonstrating the value of residency-trained ATs on patient satisfaction, patient throughput, and the financial impact specific to the physician practice setting exists, residency training is not limited to only ATs who want to provide services in physician practice. Background

Forty-two million adults in the United States are providing unpaid care for a family member or friend over the age of 50. For approximately 2.5 million of these caregivers, cancer is the primary illness or disability of their care recipient (National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 2020). As baby boomers continue to age, and the number of cancer survivors continues to increase, the need for informal caregivers will expand exponentially.

A stroke can be defined as a neurological deficit attributed to an acute focal injury of the central nervous system (CNS). There are two types of strokes, and these include ischemic and hemorrhagic. An ischemic stroke is caused by a lack of blood flow to the brain. A hemorrhagic stroke is due to a burst or rupture of a blood vessel within the brain. Background: The impact of Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is typically associated with adulthood. However, its roots can be traced back to childhood. The transition from high school to college includes many lifestyle and environmental changes, which can lead to the creation of new lifelong habits. The college experience can contribute to the development of CVD risk factors with these new lifestyle changes. These risk factors lead to the development of CVD in adulthood.

The opioid crisis disturbs several bioethics principles as indicated by the fact that it burgeoned out of the health care system as opposed to the illicit environments of the underground market.
