Comparing Online Versus Laboratory Measures Of Speech Perception In Older Children And Adolescents, Tara Mcallister, Jonathan L. Preston, Laura Ochs, Jennifer Hill, Elaine R. Hitchcock

Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Given the increasing prevalence of online data collection, it is important to know how behavioral data obtained online compare to samples collected in the laboratory. This study compares online and in-person measurement of speech perception in older children and adolescents. Speech perception is important for assessment and treatment planning in speech-language pathology; we focus on the American English /r/ sound because of its frequency as a clinical target. Two speech perception tasks were adapted for web presentation using Gorilla: identification of items along a synthetic continuum from rake to wake, and category goodness judgment of English /r/ sounds in words …

Introduction

This study was carried out to assess the effects of participating in CenteringPregnancy (CP) on maternal, birth, and neonatal outcomes among low-risk pregnant women in the Netherlands.

Methods

A total of 2124 pregnant women in primary care were included in the study. Data were derived from the Dutch national database, Perined, complemented with data from questionnaires completed by pregnant women. A stepwise-wedge design was employed; multilevel intention-to-treat analyses and propensity score matching were the main analytic approaches. Propensity score matching resulted in sample sizes of 305 nulliparous women in both the individual care (IC) and the matched control group …

Geranylgeraniol (Ggoh), Incorporated Into A Bone Cement Pellet Promotes Osteoclast Function And Healing In A Model Of Medication-Related Osteonecrosis Of The Jaw, George J Feldman, David Young, Theresa Freeman, Lauren Israel, Daniel Taub, Robert Diecidue

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty Papers

INTRODUCTION: There is no cause -based treatment for Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ). MRONJ is a morbid condition including exposed, infected bone and mandibular fractures in osteoporotic individuals and metastatic cancers patients treated with nitrogen containing bisphosphonates (NBP). NBPs inhibit farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FDPS) in the mevalonate pathway, depriving osteoclasts and other bone cells of small GTPases necessary for their function and survival. We test the hypothesis that geranylgeraniol (GGOH),a metabolite downstream of FDPS, when incorporated into a bone cement pellet, enhances osteoclast function and promotes local bone healing in

METHODS:

RESULTS: The release of GGOH from bone cement …

Physical Therapy Faculty Articles and Research

Introduction

Chronic low back pain is a common musculoskeletal healthcare presentation with an expense of over $100 billion annually. The clinical effect of myofascial cupping on pain and function is not clear, especially when different cupping techniques are combined. The purpose of this case series was to explore changes in pain and function following local static and distal dynamic myofascial dry cupping treatments in patients with chronic low back pain.

Case Descriptions

Three adults from the general population received three ten-minute treatment sessions, 48 hours between each session, of static dry cupping to the low back followed by dynamic myofascial …

Impact Of Neighborhood Disadvantage On Tumor Biology And Breast Cancer Survival, Neha Goel, Alexandra Hernandez, Deukwoo Kwon, Michael H Antoni, Steve Cole

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between neighborhood disadvantage and Oncotype DX score, a surrogate for tumor biology, among a national cohort.

Background: Women living in disadvantaged neighborhoods have shorter breast cancer (BC) survival, even after accounting for individual-level, tumor, and treatment characteristics. This suggests unaccounted social and biological mechanisms by which neighborhood disadvantage may impact BC survival.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included stage I and II, ER + /HER2 - BC patients with Oncotype DX score data from the National Cancer Database (NCDB) from 2004 to 2019. Multivariate regression models tested the association of …

Biomechanical Comparison Of A Novel Circular Glenoid With Peripheral Ring Fixation To A Standard Anchor Pegged Glenoid In Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, Adam Khan, Andrew Jawa, J Michael Wiater, Derek J. Cuff, Anand M. Murthi, Matthew J. Smith, Luke Stanford Austin

Conference Presentation Abstracts

INTRODUCTION: Current standard total shoulder pegged glenoid component designs have a high rate of loosening, which accounts for the most common long term reason for surgical failure. Glenoid design, method of fixation, and implantation version all play a role in component stability. With current designs, 51% of standard glenoid components shift at 2 years. This study aimed to compare the biomechanical stability of a novel circular glenoid with peripheral ring fixation to a standard anchor pegged glenoid. Additionally, we compared the estimated bone removal for the glenoid design types. METHODS: Biomechanical testing [Figure 1] was performed to assess the glenoid …

Prevalence Of Dengue Virus Among Healthy Blood Donors In Mombasa County, Kenya, Festus Mulakoli, George Gachara, Eric Ndombi, Samoel Khamadi

School of Nursing & Midwifery, East Africa

Introduction: Dengue fever (DF) is a viral infection caused by a flavivirus called Dengue virus. The virus has four known serotypes (named DENV 1-4) that circulate between humans and Aedes mosquitoes throughout the tropical region of the world. The virus is transmitted primarily by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti or, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus. Current evidence from published case studies shows that blood transfusions can transmit Dengue infection in hyperendemic regions in the tropics. It is important to note that 75% of people infected with DENV show no symptoms. Therefore, an infected individual could …

The field of Energy Psychology [EP] has amassed several hundred published research studies over its thirty year history which includes systematic reviews and meta-analyses. These have consistently demonstrated significant effect sizes equivalent to EMDR and trauma based CBT (Church et al., 2022, and Feinstein, 2021). Energy Psychology Techniques typically include an energetic component, an emotional component, a somatic component, focus upon a specific memory, and secondary cognitive shifts. Memory Reconsolidation may be primary for effect. Emotional Freedom Technique [EFT] is the most studied EP technique to date, and considered an evidenced based treatment for a number of conditions. Advanced Integrative …
