Significance and Background: Opioid related overdoses are considered a public health epidemic and emergency in recent years within the United States. With a staggering number of opioid related deaths which have continued to rise, steps have been taken to decrease risk within local communities through programs including personalized patient education during provider visits, the dispensing of Naloxone with opioid prescriptions and encouraging the use of alternative pain management strategies. External Ventricular Drain insertion has been practised at the Aga Khan University Hospital for more than 15 years, with the initial use of plain catheters. Subsequently between 2016 and 2017 the use of Silver-impregnated external ventricular catheters was adopted in the hospital with the aim of reducing external ventricular catheter-related infections. Recent advancements in bioimpedance technology have demonstrated significant promise in the application of cardiac health monitoring. This research explores the design and development of a forearm-based wearable bioimpedance device for non-invasive measurement of heart rate and respiratory rate at an accuracy level comparable to medical-grade monitors. It utilizes a tetrapolar electrode configuration to analyze bioimpedance changes in the radial artery due to blood flow.

Every major U.S. airline has experienced a violent inflight assault on one of their flight attendants. The problem is becoming more widespread, but industry leaders have few coping strategies. The first step toward addressing the issue is understanding the various aspects of the event, including the actions of other passengers (bystanders) who may witness the assault. There is ample literature on bystander reactions to similar events such as bullying, medical emergencies, injuries, and violent attacks, but none dedicated to a flight attendant assault or passenger reactions to it.

OBJECTIVE: Cemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the gold standard treatment for osteoarthritis, but uncemented TKA offers benefits like improved osseointegration and reduced complications from cement debris. This study aimed to investigate (1) if there has been a rise in uncemented TKA and (2) if there are differences in early complications between cemented and uncemented TKA. This study compares pharmacy students’ performance using face-to-face (FTF) team-based learning (TBL) vs. virtual TBL across multiple courses and different academic levels while accounting for student demographic and academic factors.

Methods

The study included pharmacy students from different academic levels (P1–P3) who were enrolled in three didactic courses taught using FTF TBL and virtual TBL. A community that is trained to respond to life-threatening bleeding can reduce the risk of death from trauma and violence. Stop The Bleed is a nationally recognized, free, 1- hour bleeding control training designed for laypersons. Implementing a campus-wide Stop the Bleed initiative can be daunting, yet vital to creating a safe, prepared campus. Guidance is offered by faculty, staff, and students from a Stop the Bleed initiative at a public university in the southern United States. This guide provides real-life examples and recommendations based on experience. Utilization of population health nursing students is a fundamental component of success.

Non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes are matters of huge concern worldwide, with an increasing trend in prevalence over the previous decade. First of all, this study aimed to evaluate the association between economic status (ES) and body mass index (BMI), ES and comorbidity of hypertension and diabetes, and BMI and comorbidity independently. Second, it explored the mediating role of BMI in the association between ES and comorbidity of hypertension and diabetes. Finally, it investigated whether the mediating effect differs with the place of residence, gender, and education levels.

22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is the most common microdeletion syndrome, with most recent published prevalence of 1:2,140 live births. Hearing loss is common in children with 22q11.2DS and has been reported to occur in 32-60% of people. Hearing loss is typically conductive in nature secondary to chronic eustachian tube dysfunction and chronic otitis media with effusion (COME). Close monitoring of hearing and the middle ears is recommended to detect COME and the need for ear tubes. The Sehgal lab presents data showing that the non-cell autonomous pathway of glial lipid droplet formation occurs during sleep and helps to resolve neuronal reactive oxygen species (ROS). This promotes neuronal function after an active day. Hence, this pathway has an important physiological function beyond its previously described role in ROS-associated diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Human trafficking (HT) is a public health problem that advances the spread of disease and mental health issues and affects vulnerable populations including immigrants. HT screening tools are more reliable than clinical judgment in identifying HT victims, as even victims themselves are sometimes unaware of their own victimhood. Background and aims: Obesity increases the risk for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in humans and enhances angiotensin II (AngII)-induced AAA formation in C57BL/6 mice. We reported that deficiency of Serum Amyloid A (SAA) significantly reduces AngII-induced inflammation and AAA in both hyperlipidemic apoE-deficient and obese C57BL/6 mice. The aim of this study is to investigate whether SAA plays a role in the progression of early AAA in obese C57BL/6 mice.
