It is well recognized that the effectiveness of radiotherapy (RT) requires an intact adaptive immune system, while lymphocytes are highly radiosensitive and are prevalent in the “dose bath” of radiation surrounding the tumor volume. Furthermore, it has been shown that, for nearly all disease sites, radiation-induced lymphopenia (RIL) is associated with poor outcomes. Recently, we observed compelling evidence of significant differences in the lymphocyte-sparing effects of proton therapy (PT) vs. photon (or x-ray) therapy (XRT) attributable to the differences in magnitudes of the dose baths of the two modalities. Biomedical research is inherently data-intensive, emphasizing the necessity of making data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) to expedite scientific breakthroughs. Despite the importance, data creators often do not receive sufficient recognition and lack the motivation to publish datasets in accordance with FAIR principles, primarily due to inadequate incentives. Citations serve as a means to attribute credit for dataset creation, track dataset usage, and assess the impact of data. Implementing standardized data citations could significantly enhance the discoverability of data and foster the maintenance of high-quality datasets. Introduction: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, pediatric psychologists have been at the forefront of telemedicine expansion to ensure access for patients and families to needed mental health services. This has required adaptations across the care continuum – from scheduling to service delivery to documentation. This poster aims to summarize the telehealth (TH) application of a Young Adult IBD Clinic (YAC-IBD) that provides transition preparation to youth with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Methods: In April 2020, the YAC-IBD was converted from in-person visits to a virtual visit format. Since then, 119 youth ages 17-21 (inclusive) have been seen in this clinic. This …

Clinical notes of a patient’s visit to a healthcare provider are necessary for patient care, reimbursement, and regulatory compliance with federal and state laws. Over time, non-standardized processes within the EHR have led to the increasing use of copy-paste to complete clinical notes, leading to irrelevant information being captured in the notes. Sinsky et al. (2020) shared that 49% of physicians' time is spent within the EHR, completing their documentation, placing orders, and reviewing the patient's chart. Introduction: Adverse childhood experiences are common in the United States with about 64% of the population affected. Adverse childhood experiences are predictors of many chronic diseases including mental illnesses like anxiety. Though non-Hispanic whites are mostly afflicted by anxiety compared to their racial counterparts, minority races like non- Hispanic Black/African Americans disproportionately suffer more dire consequences due to the chronicity of untreated conditions which often result from lack of access to care among other barriers. Skeletal dysplasia encompasses a spectrum of over 400 rare inheritable skeletal abnormalities typically manifested early in childhood. Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy is a clinical syndrome marked by abnormal skin and osseous tissue proliferation at the distal extremities. It is characterized by unique clinical features such as digital clubbing, periostosis of tubular bones, and synovial effusions.

In recent years, a multitude of literature have discussed the turbulent nature for young adults to navigate the difficulties of suicide bereavement with lack of support. This experience can be further cumbersome when the bereavement is co-occurring within an academic profession, such as attending university. This study explored three participants experience of suicide bereavement support at a university level, utilizing a phenomenological arts-based approach for inquiry. Patients with anemia and other conditions resulting in loss of blood often come with orders to return wasted blood to them. While using typical blood draw practices, patients are placed at an increased risk of infection when their blood is exposed to the outside world. My question is, will using a closed system decrease the instances of infection in patients who receive their waste blood after draws? By utilizing a waste syringe attached to the IV line, nurses can avoid detaching and reattaching syringes to collect and give back the patient's blood. Background & Aims: Recent studies have implicated platelets, particularly a-granules, in the development of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). However, the specific mechanisms involved have yet to be determined. Notably, thrombospondin 1 (TSP1) is a major component of the platelet a-granules released during platelet activation. Hence, we aimed to determine the role of platelet-derived TSP1 in NASH.

Methods: Platelet-specific Tsp1 knockout mice (TSP1Dpf4 ) and their wild-type littermates (TSP1 F/F) were used. NASH was induced by feeding the mice with a diet enriched in fat, sucrose, fructose, and cholesterol (AMLN diet). A human liver NASH organoid model was also employed.

The lack of prehospital care access in low- and middle-income countries is one of the greatest unmet needs and, therefore, one of the most urgent priorities in global health. Establishing emergency medical services in low- and middle-income countries poses significant challenges and complexities, requiring solutions tailored to prevailing conditions, informed by needs assessments, and adapted to meet local demands in a culturally appropriate and sustainable manner. Background: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends evaluations for bleeding disorders in children who have bruising and/or intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) concerning for abuse. Adherence to these recommendations is not known nor are the frequencies of identification of bleeding disorders or laboratory findings suggestive of a bleeding disorder. INTRODUCTION: US federal policies are evolving to expand the provision of mobile treatment units (MTUs) offering medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Mobile MOUD services are critical for rural areas with poor geographic access to fixed-site treatment providers. This study explored willingness to utilize an MTU among a sample of people who use opioids in rural Eastern Kentucky counties at the epicenter of the US opioid epidemic.

Concerns have been raised about the possibility of effects from exposure to short wavelength light (SWL), defined here as 380-550 nm, on human health. The spectral sensitivity of the human circadian timing system peaks at around 480 nm, much shorter than the peak sensitivity of daytime vision (i.e., 555 nm). Some experimental studies have demonstrated effects on the circadian timing system and on sleep from SWL exposure, especially when SWL exposure occurs in the evening or at night.
