We developed and tested MivacunaLA/MyshotLA, a community-informed mobile phone intervention, to increase COVID-19 vaccination among Latino parents/caretakers of minors in under-resourced areas of Los Angeles by addressing misinformation and building trust. We recruited Latino parents/caregivers with at least one unvaccinated child in East and South Los Angeles in the summer of 2021 and evaluated MivacunaLA as a randomized controlled trial with a wait-list control group. A difference-in-difference analysis showed Latino parents/caregivers that participated in MivacunaLA (n = 246), in comparison to the control group, were 15 percentage points more likely (p = 0.04) to report vaccination of minors aged 12–17 …

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare genetic condition caused by pathogenic variants in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes. TSC is characterized by a multisystem, neurocutaneous phenotype including skin lesions, hamartomas, and epilepsy. Additionally, TSC can present with an array of behavioral, psychiatric, academic, psychosocial, intellectual, or neuropsychological difficulties comprehensively known as TAND, or TSC-associated neuropsychiatric disorders. Sleep disorders are a common feature of TAND; however, they are not well characterized in the adult TSC population. Lynch Syndrome (LS) is the most common inherited colorectal cancer (CRC) syndrome. It constitutes the perfect model to understand DNA mismatch repair deficient (MMRd) carcinogenesis, which underlies 15% of early-stage CRC. LS patients develop MMRd tumors with high loads of shared neoantigens (neoAgs), which are recognized by the immune system. Previous research has concentrated on discovering neoAgs and their potential as targets for vaccines in LS patients. Once thought to be a homogenous population, capillary endothelial cells (ECs) have embodied organotypic specialization and heterogenous properties, both during homeostasis and tissue injury. In the lung, capillary ECs consist of two distinct populations, CAP1 and CAP2s; how each population responds to diverse tissue injury is incompletely understood. In this thesis, I report the induction and function of a truncated isoform of Ntrk2, Ntrk2^-tk (lacking the tyrosine kinase domain) in multiple injury models. Background and Objectives: Patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) with chest pain who have an indeterminate (detectable to mildly elevated) troponin are often further evaluated with tests that use ionizing radiation. We hypothesized that patients initially evaluated with stress cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging receive less ionizing radiation through 1-year of follow-up than those initially evaluated with invasive angiography. Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of the CMR-IMPACT trial, which randomized adult patients at 4 U.S. sites (9/2013– 7/2018) with a contemporary troponin of 0.006–1.0 ng/mL to either CMR imaging or invasive angiography. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has dramatically prolonged the lives of people living with HIV (PLWH), but it is not curative as it cannot eliminate integrated HIV-1 proviruses in different tissue reservoirs. Even though subtype C HIV-1 accounts for almost half of global HIV-1 infections, few studies had evaluated HIV-1 reservoirs for this subtype. Many co-factors, including the lifestyle factor cannabis use, have been investigated for their potential effects in HIV-1 infection. These compounds are all toxic to both cats and dogs in sufficient amounts. As Simparica TRIO^® rises in popularity among pet owners, Felis catus (felines, cats) in multi-pet households (households with both cats and dogs) are at increased risk of overdosage and toxicosis from accidental ingestion of Simparica TRIO^® due to their smaller weight.

models (FE) Lingual (LAC) and incisal (IAC)). Three experimental FE models, including the IT

model, were developed: LAC and IAC.

Methods: For every simulated model, one distinct radicular preparations was carried out of size

The mutational landscape of phylogenetically ultraconserved elements (UCEs), especially those in noncoding DNA regions (ncUCEs), and their functional and clinical relevance in cancers remain poorly characterized. In this thesis, we perform a systematic analysis of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) and in-house targeted sequencing of 13,736 UCEs and demonstrate that ncUCE somatic alterations are pervasive. Using a genome-wide multiplexed CRISPR knockout screen in colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines, we show that the loss of several mutated ncUCEs impacts cancer cell proliferation. BACKGROUND: We characterized age at diagnosis and estimated sex differences for lung cancer and its histological subtypes among individuals who never smoke.

METHODS: We analyzed the distribution of age at lung cancer diagnosis in 33,793 individuals across 8 cohort studies and two national registries from East Asia, the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK). Student's t-tests were used to assess the study population differences (Δ years) in age at diagnosis comparing females and males who never smoke across subgroups defined by race/ethnicity, geographic location, and histological subtypes.

OBJECTIVES: Evaluate a digital health intervention using Auricular Point Acupressure (APA) for chronic musculoskeletal pain in terms of participant retention, adherence, acceptability, and satisfaction. Regression discontinuity designs are valuable quasi-experimental designs, especially when randomized control/clinical trials are ethically or practically challenging. Latent variables are prevalent in the social, behavioral, and educational (SBE) sciences—measurement assumptions have to be tested and met when using such variables. Not meeting those assumptions leads to biased results and (likely) erroneous inferential making. Spatial hearing provides access to auditory spatial cues that promote speech perception in noisy listening situations. However, reverberation degrades auditory spatial cues and limits listeners’ ability to utilize these cues for segregating target speech from competing babble. Hence, spatial unmasking—an intelligibility benefit from a spatial separation between a target and masker—is reduced in reverberant environments as compared to free field. This work tests the hypothesis that interaural decorrelation, the result of increasing reverberation, will broaden the perceived auditory source width with a cascading effect of reduced auditory spatial acuity and subsequently poorer spatial unmasking. Indoor air quality and thermal environmental variables were measured in 55 classrooms in the mid-western United States spanning a full academic year. The studied air quality and environmental factors included carbon dioxide, temperature, relative humidity, particle counts, air velocity, formaldehyde, total volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone.

Carbon dioxide and Particulate matter concentrations were measured for a four-day measurement period. This dissertation focuses on the idea that women’s bodies have a sexual stigma attached to them as a consequence of different forms of heteropatriarcal violence inflicted on them. The pandemic has had profound social and economic consequences and continues to be present today. France and the United States’ response to the discovery of HIV will be compared and the impact that HIV/AIDS had on their countries and future responses. They had rather similar responses, however, the United States had a slower initial response compared to France.
