Developing and maintaining good communication is central in nursing because the goal is to achieve the best outcomes for the patient. In the past, written handover reports have been the standard way nurses communicate with each other, especially in the hospital and in home-based practice. Despite this rationale, this approach has considerable weaknesses: its high risk of mistakes and misunderstanding could negatively influence patient outcomes. BACKGROUND: Nab-sirolimus (ABI-009, nab-rapamycin; Aadi Bioscience Inc. [Aadi]) is a human albumin-bound form of sirolimus nanoparticles, a potent mTOR inhibitor. This phase I trial was conducted to define dose-limiting toxicities (DLT), maximum tolerated or recommended phase II dose (MTD/RP2D), and pharmacokinetics of Nab-sirolimus in combination with temozolomide and irinotecan.

BACKGROUND: Functional internal rotation (fIR) can be limited after reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) and can result in difficulties performing activities of daily living (ADLs). The goal of this narrative review is to summarize the growing body of research on optimizing fIR after RSA that may be useful to clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that requires frequent clinic and laboratory visits. However, patients with SLE, particularly those who are underresourced, have unacceptably high rates of no-shows.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine no-show rates associated with telemedicine visits during the COVID-19 pandemic in comparison to no-show rates associated with contemporaneous and historic in-person visits.

BACKGROUND: Vital exhaustion, defined as excessive fatigue, demoralization, and irritability due to chronic stress, is independently associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Sacral reconstruction post tumor resection has historically been executed with the placement of hardware or free tissue transfer. Reconstruction using a vascularized bone graft is an alternative that avoids the complications associated with hardware placement or free tissue transfer. This article describes the first documented case of spinoplastic reconstruction using an iliac crest vascularized bone graft (IC-VBG) after the resection of a sacral ependymoma. The design and use of synthetic communities, or SynComs, is one of the most promising strategies for disentangling the complex interactions within microbial communities, and between these communities and their hosts. Compared to natural communities, these simplified consortia provide the opportunity to study ecological interactions at tractable scales, as well as facilitating reproducibility and fostering interdisciplinary science. Objective: Initiating postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) within 6 weeks of surgery for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is included in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Clincal Practice Guidelines and is a Commission on Cancer quality metric. Factors associated with delays in starting PORT have not been systematically described nor synthesized.

This study aimed to uncover novel genes associated with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) by leveraging recent large-scale de novo burden analysis studies to enhance a virtual gene panel used in a diagnostic setting. We re-analyzed historical trio-exome sequencing data from 745 individuals with NDD according to the most recent diagnostic standards, resulting in a cohort of 567 unsolved individuals. Next, we designed a virtual gene panel containing candidate genes from three large de novo burden analysis studies in NDD and prioritized candidate genes by stringent filtering for ultra-rare de novo variants with high pathogenicity scores. An infant presents in extremis. After the medical team stabilizes him, the race is on to figure out why he got so sick in the first place. The consulting genetics team thinks that it is unlikely his problems are due to a genetic cause, but his extreme, confounding presentation is enough to justify trio exome sequencing. Macrophages are innate immune cells that are known for their extreme plasticity, enabling diverse phenotypes that lie on a continuum. In a simplified model, they switch between pro-inflammatory (M1) and anti-inflammatory (M2) phenotypes depending on surrounding microenvironmental cues, which have been implicated in disease outcomes. Background: Skeletal surveys (SS) are recommended for the evaluation of suspected physical abuse in children < 2 years old. No guidelines exist for SS completion in children between 2 and 5 years old.

Objective: To determine rates of SS completion by age and examine variables associated with occult fracture identification in older children.

Participants and setting: Observational cross-sectional multi-center study of 10 US pediatric centers 2/2021-9/2022 including children < 6 years old evaluated for physical child abuse.

Methods: The principal outcome is occult fracture identified on SS. Non-parametric tests were conducted from comparison between age groups and those with and without occult fractures.

Results: The rate of SS completion declined with increasing age from a high of 91 % in infants < 6 months old to 7 % in children 5-5.9 years old. The proportion of SS with occult fractures also decreased with age. Of 450 children 2-5 years old with a SS, 20 [4 % (95 % CI: 3-8 %)] had an occult fracture. The rate of occult fractures among children 2-5 years old who were diagnosed with abuse and not admitted to the hospital was 0.3 % (95 % CI 0-0.6 %)]. Over 30 % of children 2-5 years old were diagnosed with child abuse by a child abuse pediatrician without completion of a SS.

Context.—: Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare mesenchymal tumors of uncertain histogenesis expressing smooth muscle and melanocytic markers. The clinicopathologic spectrum in young patients is not well documented.

Objective.—: To describe a multi-institutional series of PEComas in children, adolescents, and young adults.

Design.—: PEComas, not otherwise specified (NOS); angiomyolipomas (AMLs); lymphangioleiomyomatosis; and clear cell sugar tumors were retrospectively identified from 6 institutions and the authors' files.

Background: Knee arthrofibrosis is a common complication after surgical fixation of tibial spine fractures. However, there is no standardized treatment modality for resultant arthrofibrosis, with some surgeons electing for nonoperative management, while others prefer manipulation under anesthesia with a possible arthroscopic lysis of adhesions, if indicated. The purpose of this explorative study was to retrospectively analyze the ground reaction force using Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) vector field analysis, as traditional scalar analyses often fail to acknowledge the interdependence of force vector components. Solid tumours induce systemic immunosuppression that involves myeloid and T cells. B cell-related mechanisms remain relatively understudied. Here we discover two distinct patterns of tumour-induced B cell abnormality (TiBA; TiBA-1 and TiBA-2), both associated with abnormal myelopoiesis in the bone marrow. TiBA-1 probably results from the niche competition between pre-progenitor-B cells and myeloid progenitors, leading to a global reduction in downstream B cells. TiBA-2 is characterized by systemic accumulation of a unique early B cell population, driven by interaction with excessive neutrophils. Background: Observational studies support that altered immunoglobulin G (IgG) N-glycosylation and inflammatory factors are associated with cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs); nevertheless, the causality between them remains unclear. Methods: Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted to systematically investigate the bidirectional causality between IgG N-glycans and nine CMDs in both East Asians and Europeans. Background: Plasma phospho-tau 217 (pTau217) assays can accurately detect Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology, but clinical application is limited by the need for specialised equipment. This study tests the performance of a plasma pTau217 assay performed on the Lumipulse-G® platform, that is in widespread clinical use, for selecting patients for therapy based on β-amyloid (Aβ) status and tau staging. Background: Despite considerable heritability, previous smaller genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have not identified any robust genetic risk factors for isolated dystonia.

Objective: The objective of this study was to perform a large-scale GWAS in a well-characterized, multicenter sample of >6000 individuals to identify genetic risk factors for isolated dystonia.

Methods: Array-based GWASs were performed on autosomes for 4303 dystonia participants and 2362 healthy control subjects of European ancestry with subgroup analysis based on age at onset, affected body regions, and a newly developed clinical score. Another 736 individuals were used for validation.

Background and aims: Alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) poses significant short-term mortality. Existing prognostic models lack precision for 90-day mortality. Utilizing artificial intelligence in a global cohort, we sought to derive and validate an enhanced prognostic model.

Approach and results: The Global AlcHep initiative, a retrospective study across 23 centers in 12 countries, enrolled patients with AH per National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism criteria. Centers were partitioned into derivation (11 centers, 860 patients) and validation cohorts (12 centers, 859 patients). However, a comprehensive review synthesising participant experiences throughout treatment sessions is lacking. This study aims to explore the qualitative literature regarding participants' experiences of acupuncture as a potential treatment modality. Background: The 17-item Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) is a commonly used patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess kinesiophobia, but the measurement properties of the TSK in people with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) are unknown. Problem: Separating women and babies immediately after birth contributes to poor birth experience and reduced satisfaction. Background: A negative birth experience can impact a woman's transition to motherhood and emotional well-being beyond the newborn period.
