Despite the initial hope inspired by the 2015 Paris Agreement, the world is now dangerously close to breaching its target of limiting global multiyear mean heating to 1·5°C. Annual mean surface temperature reached a record high of 1·45°C above the pre-industrial baseline in 2023, and new temperature highs were recorded throughout 2024. The resulting climatic extremes are increasingly claiming lives and livelihoods worldwide.

Background: We previously reported that increases in circulating sphingolipids are associated with elevated risk of biopsy Gleason grade group (GG) upgrading in men on Active Surveillance (AS) for prostate cancer. Here, we aimed to validate these findings and establish a blood-based sphingolipid biomarker panel for identifying men on AS who are at high-risk of biopsy GG upgrading.

Accessible mammography datasets and innovative machine learning techniques are at the forefront of computer-aided breast cancer diagnosis. However, the opacity surrounding private datasets and the unclear methodology behind the selection of subset images from publicly available databases for model training and testing, coupled with the arbitrary incompleteness or inaccessibility of code, markedly intensifies the obstacles in replicating and validating the model's efficacy. BACKGROUND: Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disease in Peru despite the availability of cost-effective, evidence-based treatment. Here we describe the rationale and study design for a hybrid type 2 randomized controlled trial to test the implementation and effectiveness of a community health worker (CHW)-led hypertension control program within the national primary care system in Puno, Peru.

METHODS: We will recruit 1068 adult participants with hypertension aged ≥ 18 years in Puno, Peru, via facility-based enrollment and community health fairs. BACKGROUND: Sacituzumab govitecan is an antibody-drug conjugate that is FDA approved for refractory metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. It targets the human trophoblastic cell-surface antigen 2 (Trop-2) with SN-38, a topoisomerase I inhibitor, attached to the antibody [1]. SN-38 breaks DNA strands and induces tumor apoptosis [2]. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of its adverse effects mainly prerenal due to gastrointestinal toxicity, but it has not been reported to cause acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN).

This study examines the number of tasks police investigators perform by the level of risk assigned to cases and the length of time the investigations take to resolve. It analyses 40,091 solved cases from 2019 using data from eight English police forces, as part of a wider research project of missing person investigations demand on police resources. The findings show that (1) low and high risk with a search area cases have a relationship to the duration of the investigation; (2) there is a relationship between the risk classification and the number of tasks assigned to the case; (3) the …

Repeat missing children pose a significant financial burden onto services, including the police, social services, and health providers. Recognising that 37 to 65 percent of missing child reports each year are repeats, efforts have been made by academics and practitioners to understand this societal problem. Meanspo, an antagonistic form of online support within the eating disorder (ED) community, involves the direct solicitation or sharing of aggressive and insulting online content. This study presents findings from a comprehensive qualitative analysis of #meanspo content on X (previously Twitter) from May 2020 (N=752). Our analysis of tweets reveals that posts tagged with #meanspo can be of various natures. While commonly associated with extremely derogatory ED content, more than 80% of posts with the meanspo tag on X were non-aggressive. Data standards are available for spinal cord injury (SCI). The International SCI Data Sets were created in 2002 and there are currently 27 freely available. In 2014 the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke developed clinical common data elements to promote clinical data sharing in SCI. The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of SCI data standards, describe learnings from the traumatic brain injury (TBI) field using data to enhance research and care, and discuss future opportunities in SCI. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal disease soon to become the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US. Beside surgery, current therapies have narrow clinical benefits with systemic toxicities. FOLFIRINOX is the current standard of care, one component of which is 5- Fluorouracil (5-FU), which causes serious gastrointestinal and hematopoietic toxicities and is vulnerable to resistance mechanisms. Recently, we have developed polymeric fluoropyrimidines (F10, CF10) which unlike 5-FU, are, in principle, completely converted to the thymidylate synthase inhibitory metabolite FdUMP, without generating appreciable levels of ribonucleotides that cause systemic toxicities while displaying much stronger anti-cancer activity. Heat stress can disrupt the balance between the heat poultry release into the environment and the heat they generate. Pequi oil has antioxidant properties, which may mitigate the heat stress effects. This study aimed to investigate the response of laying hens to pequi oil supplementation under heat stress using a proteomic approach. A total of 96 Lohmann White laying hens with 26 weeks old were housed in a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a perinatal brain injury that is the leading cause of cerebral palsy, developmental delay, and poor cognitive outcomes in children born at term, occurring in about 1.5 out of 1000 births. The only proven therapy for HIE is therapeutic hypothermia. However, despite this treatment, many children ultimately suffer disability, brain injury, and even death. Barriers to implementation including late diagnosis and lack of resources also lead to poorer outcomes. Background: Regular physical activity (PA) provides numerous health advantages, including lowering mortality rates and preventing obesity. Despite well-established guidelines advising 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75-150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic PA weekly, sedentary lifestyles remain prevalent, especially in industrialised nations. This systematic review examines the long-term effectiveness (12-24 months) of PA interventions aimed at reducing obesity risk among adults, with a particular focus on identifying strategies that promote sustained adherence.
