Suicidal thoughts and behaviors among adolescents are critical public health concerns in the United States, with suicide being the third leading cause of death among high school-aged youths (14-18 years). This study replicates and extends the findings of the 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) conducted by Gaylor et al., which analyzed data from 13,677 students in 2019 and 17,232 students in 2021. The original study revealed alarming increases in suicidal ideation and behaviors, particularly among female students, and highlighted disparities across demographic groups. The Association Between Systolic Blood Pressure And Coronary Heart Disease In The Framingham Heart Study: A Long-Term Prospective Cohort Study, Alexandrea M. Welch

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with systolic blood pressure (SBP) as a critical risk factor. This study utilized data from the Framingham Heart Study to assess the association between SBP and CHD among participants. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariable logistic regression was used to explore this association as well as the association with other key covariates. We found a significant positive association between elevated SBP and the risk of CHD (adjusted OR: 1.69, 95% CI: 1.41-2.01, p < 0.0001). Age, sex, current blood pressure medication use, and body mass index (BMI) were significantly associated with CHD. Our findings support the need for blood pressure management to prevent cardiac events and reduce CHD burden.

Objectives: This study investigates the relationship between current cigarette smoking at baseline and the occurrence of angina pectoris during follow-up among middle-aged adults (30-70 years), adjusting for age, sex, BMI, diabetes status, education, and number of cigarettes smoked per day.

Methods: Using the Framingham Heart Study cohort (N=4,434), logistic regression analyses were performed. A backward selection approach identified confounders and explored effect modification.

Methods This retrospective cohort study was conducted using a subset of the cohort from the Framingham Heart Study to create a multivariable logistic regression model for analysis. My capstone was conducted at the Hanford site in Richland, Washington. It was once a location that produced weapons-grade plutonium, but now its mission is to clean up the radioactive waste that was left behind. My project focused on beryllium and how much is present in the 56 million gallons of waste that needs to be disposed of. I evaluated the OSHA regulations for beryllium work areas, medical surveillance, and beryllium exposure's environmental and health implications. The purpose was to determine if the concentrations present meet the requirements to continue to be considered a beryllium work area.

Objective: To investigate the association between serum total cholesterol and coronary heart disease (CHD), accounting for key risk factors in adults aged 32–70 years.

Methods: We analyzed data from 4,382 participants of the Framingham Heart Study, a prospective cohort study with 24 years of follow-up. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the relationship between serum cholesterol and CHD, adjusting for age, sex, smoking status, systolic blood pressure, BMI, diabetes, and heart rate.

Results: Individuals with high (aOR = 1.87; 95% CI = 1.52 - 2.32; p<.0001) and borderline high (aOR = 1.40; 95% CI = 1.13 - 1.75; p = 0.0024) cholesterol levels have significantly higher odds of developing CHD than those with normal cholesterol. Older (aOR=1.03; 95% CI=1.03–1.05), male (aOR=2.16; 95% CI=1.86–2.51), current smokers (aOR=1.20; 95% CI=1.03–1.39), hypertensive (aOR=1.88; 95% CI=1.55–2.26), obese (aOR=3.03; 95% CI=1.24–7.43), and diabetic individuals (aOR=2.41; 95% CI=1.63–3.56), had significantly higher CHD risk.

This brief report presents findings on informal, non-prescribed PrEP use among an online sample of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (n = 196). Mean age was 33.4. Participants were Hispanic (13.3%), African American (15.8%), white (63.8%), and other race/ethnicity (6.6%). Informal PrEP users (11%) more frequently reported past year sexually transmitted infections (p < 0.001), group sex (p < 0.001), sex in public (p < 0.01), transactional sex (p < 0.001), ever receiving a formal PrEP prescription (p < 0.05), and ease of finding diverted HIV medications on gay dating/sex apps (p < 0.05). Formal PrEP uptake should be encouraged to mitigate potential negative consequences of informal use.

There is substantive literature surrounding the impact of price controls on the research and development (R&D) of new pharmaceutical products. The European Union (EU) and United States (US) are often studied in contrast to examine the influence of price controls as the US has fewer pharmaceutical price controls than the EU.

We find moderate evidence that the US spent more on annual domestic pharmaceutical R&D than the EU between 2004 and 2021, on average, before and after adjusting for GDP growth per capita and year. We find strong evidence that the US increased annual domestic R&D spending at a faster …

Existing single-cell clustering methods are based on gene expressions that are susceptible to dropout events in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data. To overcome this limitation, we proposed a pathway-based clustering method for single cells (scPathClus). scPathClus first transforms single-cell gene expression matrix into pathway enrichment matrix and generates its latent feature matrix. Based on the latent feature matrix, scPathClus clusters single cells using the method of community detection. We present a case of a 52-year-old male with no known past medical history who presented to an outside hospital with acute chest pain. Initial workup revealed anteroseptal ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) for which the patient was transferred to our facility for emergent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Background: Emerging evidence suggests that endovascular thrombectomy is beneficial for treatment of childhood stroke, but the safety and effectiveness of endovascular thrombectomy has not been compared with best medical treatment. Objective: It is currently unknown whether adjunctive azithromycin prophylaxis at the time of non-elective cesarean has differential effects on neonatal outcomes in the context of prematurity. The objective of this study was to compare whether neonatal outcomes differ in term and preterm infants exposed to adjunctive azithromycin prophylaxis before non-elective cesarean delivery.

Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is linked to lifestyle exposures. However, changes in the CRC rates among younger populations remain poorly understood and suggest the existence of yet unidentified factor(s) that may contribute to colon carcinogenesis. OBJECTIVE: To compare the predictive accuracy of the 2022 vs 2011 National Institute of Child Health and Human Development estimator for identifying infants at high risk for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).

METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective study of infants ≤28 weeks' gestation. Demographic and respiratory support data were used to calculate risk for BPD or death by the BPD estimators.
