Undergraduate anatomy & physiology (A&P) is an opportune place for future healthcare providers to learn a diversity of topics related to human health and function, including sexual health. However, the current undergraduate curriculum and instruction in A&P classes do not support students in achieving a high level of understanding of sexual health, including sexual anatomy and physiology. This poster highlights current and updated guidelines for chemical and mechanical prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing major and minor orthopedic surgery. Existing and new potential therapies were reviewed, as well as an analysis into the lack of high-quality risk-prediction score calculators to improve personalization of prophylaxis regimens. Alongside a summary of existing and potential new prophylaxis protocols, a call to action to improve validity of said risk score calculators so as to improve patient outcomes and personalized medicine is made.

This study aims to find out the risk factors for pediatric TB. The design of this study was cross-sectional, using TB surveillance data extracted from maintenance cards of individuals who underwent TB screening in 2020–2022 at health facilities in DKI Jakarta. The independent variables in this study are age, gender, contact history, BCG immunization, and nutritional status. Background: Alcohol use disorder disproportionately impacts American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) populations at higher rates of disease morbidity and mortality. In the primary care setting, few treatment resources are available to patients outside of medication-only options.

Local Problem: While the intervention site (rural Tribal Federally Qualified Health Center [FQHC]) was known to have a well-established medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program for opiate use disorder (OUD), the was a need for alcohol use disorder (AUD) resources.

Background. Stress refers to a state of mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Research indicates that stress negatively affects university students.

Problem. Researchers have found that 30% of undergraduate nursing students have symptoms of burnout resulting from an overaccumulation of stressors and 97.8% were at moderate risk for developing burnout.

Problem: Within the South Bay Hospice Agency, documentation compliance for missed visits was 68% in the first quarter of 2024, when the national standard should be 100% according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Context: Inadequate nurse documentation and communication between health professionals can lead to medical errors, poor team communication and suboptimal patient outcomes (Tasew et al., 2019). Therefore, the importance of documentation compliance is imperative. This paper explores the prevalence, causes, and consequences of PTSD resulting from childbirth, highlighting the need for effective intervention strategies. A systematic review of 25 studies encompassing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), pharmacotherapy, and support groups was conducted to evaluate their effectiveness. Findings indicate that CBT and EMDR are the most promising treatments, with pharmacotherapy and support groups also providing substantial benefits. However, access to these interventions remains a challenge for certain populations. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) controls the movement of molecules into and out of the central nervous system (CNS). Since a functional BBB forms by mouse embryonic day E15.5, we reasoned that gene cohorts expressed in CNS endothelial cells (EC) at E13.5 contribute to BBB formation. In contrast, adult gene signatures reflect BBB maintenance mechanisms. Supporting this hypothesis, transcriptomic analysis revealed distinct cohorts of EC genes involved in BBB formation and maintenance. A newly established pediatric outpatient infusion center in Los Angeles does not have immediate access to a Code Blue Team or a Rapid Response Team, and instead relies on the Staff Assist protocol to manage medical emergencies. Via direct interviews, registered nurses at the infusion center report feeling underprepared and lacking confidence to respond to medical emergencies that must be escalated to code blue. Microsystem assessment tools determined the root cause to be limited clinical exposure and limited opportunities for skills development.
