Prior surveys of chronic automated red blood cell exchange (RCE) for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) have identified considerable procedural variability, especially with the use of isovolemic hemodilution red blood cell exchange (IHD-RCE). We conducted a survey of chronic RCE practices among American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) members to identify opportunities for practice harmonization and future studies. The ASFA SCD Research Subcommittee developed a 72-item survey of chronic RCE practices, with a focus on IHD-RCE. For over three decades, the Population Council Pakistan has generated evidence and supported governments in designing innovative approaches to address population and reproductive health challenges. Building on evidence around fertility transition, reproductive health, and the nationally endorsed Tawazun (balance) narrative, the Population Council supported the Government of Punjab through the FCDO-funded Delivering Accelerated Family Planning in Pakistan (DAFPAK) initiative and other strategic partnerships to implement scalable solutions for strengthening family planning services. This brief outlines five high-impact, proven interventions ready for institutional scale-up and provides an actionable path forward to transform routine health encounters into sustainable health system reforms.

The purpose of this study was to identify if bilateral muscle activation differences exist in erector spinae (ES), gluteus maximus (Gmax), and biceps femoris (BF) in collegiate female field hockey players with and without LBP during a prone hip extension (PHE). Breast cancer survivors (BCS) often report noticeable cognitive difficulties despite showing limited impairment on standardized neuropsychological tests. Some have theorized that this is simply an insensitivity of standardized testing to subtle cognitive changes (test-insensitivity hypothesis), whereas others have suggested there are early neural changes that are detected by patients but precede detection by these tests (early signal hypothesis) or that when they achieve normal performance, it is through saliently effortful compensatory processes (compensation hypothesis). Importance  Community health workers (CHWs) improve chronic disease management in underserved populations, but scalable integration strategies are limited.

Objective  To evaluate whether a multidimensional intervention incorporating telementored CHWs and a structured participant-CHW-clinician feedback loop can improve diabetes outcomes.

Design, Setting, and Participants  This 12-month randomized clinical trial was conducted at 3 institutionally and geographically diverse community clinics in Texas between September 1, 2023, and April 30, 2025, and included low-income, uninsured White Hispanic adults with type 2 diabetes identified through clinic databases. Data were analyzed between May 1 and July 31, 2025.

Introduction While many countries achieved notable gains in contraceptive use levels after the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development which redefined family planning (FP) as a human right, there was a long period of 15 years when contraceptive use levels did not receive due attention. It was only later that its subsequent inclusion in the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2012 London Summit on FP renewed global commitment and a focus towards FP. By using information from various senses, the brain can enhance its ability to detect and respond to stimuli more quickly and accurately. However, combining sensory cues from multiple modalities is only sometimes beneficial as it may lead to illusions and reduced behavioural performance. Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is highly lethal. Although patients with the BRAFV600E alteration respond to the type I RAF inhibitor (RAFi) dabrafenib with trametinib, most rapidly develop adaptive or acquired resistance. Here, multi-region whole-genome, high-coverage whole-exome, and single-nuclei RNA sequencing of tumors from ATC patients undergoing type I RAFi and MEKi therapy reveals that reactivation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, along with immunosuppressive macrophage proliferation, may underlie the development of acquired resistance. Screening of several RAFi reveals that ATC cell lines are exquisitely sensitive to the type II RAFi naporafenib, which inhibits EphA2-mediated MAPK signaling. Further, naporafenib and …

BACKGROUND: Flow diversion is effective for unruptured distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA) aneurysms, yet comparative data between the Silk Vista Baby (SVB) and Pipeline Embolization Device (PED) in this challenging territory remain scarce.

METHODS: We conducted a retrospective multicenter study using the CRETA Registry, including consecutive patients with unruptured DACA aneurysms treated with SVB or PED. The primary endpoint was complete angiographic occlusion (O'Kelly-Marotta grade D). Secondary outcomes included procedural characteristics, clinical outcome (modified Rankin Scale), and complications. Overlap weighting was applied to account for non-randomized treatment allocation. Translational equity means ensuring that diagnostics, treatments, care models, and prevention strategies are developed and implemented so they work for populations with the greatest burden and least access to care. In Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), where most evidence derives from highly educated, non-Hispanic White participants at large academic centers, translational equity is critical to prevent misclassification, limited access, and widening disparities and to ensure that underrepresented communities shape how new knowledge moves into practice. Although multiple factors contribute to a clinician’s preference for practicing in rural areas, the imbalance created leads to rural communities with significantly reduced access to essential services, particularly dental care. The disparity between urban and rural healthcare is a well-documented global problem, but it remains a pressing issue in the United States, particularly in Oregon. Substance use disorder is a complex neurobiological disease characterized by impaired control over drug taking and drug seeking. Drugs of abuse exert their reinforcing effects largely through dopaminergic (DAergic) projections from the ventral tegmental area (VTA) to the nucleus accumbens, where all drugs of abuse increase DA transmission. Beyond reward processing and reward learning, the VTA contributes to a range of psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia and attention-related disorders. Objectives: P2RX7 has been implicated in bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. However, the specificity and comparability of these as sociations remain unclear. This study aimed to systematically evaluate multiple neuropsychiatric disorders to identify those most robustly associated with P2RX7.

Methods: We analyzed 1861 imputed SNPs spanning the P2RX7 gene in 1,087,925 individuals from 72 inde pendent cohorts across 18 neuropsychiatric disorders. Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA-5) dermatomyositis is an uncommon condition that is frequently complicated by rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD), resulting in a poor prognosis. Due to its aggressive course, management is often challenging and requires timely interventions to improve outcomes. This case of a female patient with anti-MDA-5-positive DM and RP-ILD aims to document this unique and uncommon condition, its aggressive clinical course, associated complications, diagnostic challenges, and management considerations.
