Objective: To provide an applied framework for assessing the genetic contribution to assortative mating (AM) using height as a model trait and disclose the trace of certain pieces of evidence of AM in the form of the shared environmental effects from long-term cohabitation on spouses' anthropometric traits and lipid serum levels.

Methods: 2315 genotyped couples were extracted from the Tehran Cardiometabolic Genetic Study (TCGS). Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess the relationship between spouses' height. BACKGROUND: The Health Equity Collective (HEC), a multi-sector systems-level collective impact coalition in the Greater Houston region, partnered with the City of Houston Health Department (HHD) to launch a 2-year effort to implement a comprehensive approach towards strengthening the regional Community Health Workers (CHW) workforce infrastructure as a pathway to advancing health equity. Our paper presents the logic model, methods, and baseline qualitative and quantitative data from this initiative.

Introduction: The impact of multiple feeding arteries on clinical outcomes of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) is not well understood. This study aims to compare outcomes between AVMs with multiple versus single feeding arteries.

Patients and methods: Data from the Multicenter International Study for Treatment of Brain AVMs (MISTA) consortium were analyzed. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance cohorts. Subgroup analysis was conducted for ruptured and unruptured AVMs and different treatment options, and multivariable logistic regression was applied to assess the impact of feeding artery origin.

Background: Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6is) in combination with endocrine therapy are the standard treatment for patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer (mBC). Despite the efficacy of CDK4/6is, intrinsic resistance occurs in approximately one-third of patients, highlighting the need for reliable predictive biomarkers.

Methods: Single-cell RNA sequencing analyzed metastatic tumors from HR+/HER2- mBC patients pre-CDK4/6i treatment at baseline (BL) and/or at disease progression. We used a novel shape-restricted Cox model to determine the desirable ER expression cutoff to predict breast cancer prognoses. Our model treats ER as a continuous variable using a flexible monotone-shaped Cox regression to assess its association with survival outcomes holistically. The study included 3055 patients with stage II/III HER2-negative breast cancer. The primary outcomes were time to recurrence or death (TTR) and overall survival (OS). The shape-restricted Cox model identified 10% ER as the preferred cutoff to predict TTR. The finding was confirmed by the log-rank test and standard Cox model that patients with ER ≥ 10% had TTR …

This study explored Extension nutrition educators’ (NEs) perceptions of community members’ challenges and opportunities for achieving a healthy lifestyle. NEs represented various communities with low income across nine states. NEs across locations identified similar barriers (i.e., lack of access and availability of healthy and affordable foods; access to transportation; and financial insecurity) and opportunities (i.e., trustworthy and free nutrition education resources and programs; and access to food banks, food pantries, and health care professionals) that prevented or facilitated a healthful lifestyle. Future research should explore key community stakeholder and community member perceptions to guide the development of community-driven interventions.

Cooperative Extension’s National Framework for Health Equity and Well-Being provides a roadmap for improving the health of communities. Core concepts include installing health equity a systemwide value and catalyzing community-level changes that ensure all people have an opportunity to be as healthy as they can. This article presents findings from a national readiness assessment for implementing the Framework across Extension. Results from a literature scan, national survey, and regional listening sessions identified internal facilitators and barriers to adoption. The article provides ideas for how Extension practitioners can engage in this work and shares an action plan developed from assessment results.

Inadequate Intensification Of Ldl-Cholesterol Lowering Therapy After Coronary Revascularization: Insights From The Gould Registry, Benjamin E Peterson, Deepak L Bhatt, Christie M Ballantyne, James A De Lemos, Robert S Rosenson, Mikhail N Kosiborod, Christopher P Cannon

Background: Patients with a history of coronary revascularization are at a higher risk for subsequent cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. Lowering LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels post-revascularization significantly reduces these risks.

Methods: This analysis compared LDL-C-lowering therapies at baseline and over time among patients with and without prior coronary revascularization in the GOULD registry (a prospective multicenter cohort study). Baseline- and 24-month follow-up characteristics-including LDL-C levels and strategies for lipid-lowering therapy (LLT)-were evaluated.

Results: Out of 5006 patients, 2195 (43.8%) had prior coronary revascularization. At baseline, these patients had lower LDL-C (99.2 mg/dL vs. 102.5 mg/dL; p < 0.001) and were more likely to be on intensive LLT (52.8% vs. 42.7%; p < 0.001). At 24 months, they had small reductions in LDL-C (-15.6% vs. -13.7%; p = 0.145) and were more likely to be on intensive LLT (61.9% vs. 51.5%; p < 0.001). Similar LDL-C reductions were observed in the PCSK9i group regardless of revascularization status.

The network of proteins at the interface between cell-cell adherens junctions and the actomyosin cytoskeleton provides robust yet dynamic connections that facilitate cell shape change and motility. While this was initially thought to be a simple linear connection via classic cadherins and their associated catenins, we now have come to appreciate that many more proteins are involved, providing robustness and mechanosensitivity. Defining the full set of proteins in this network remains a key objective in our field. Proximity proteomics provides a means to define these networks. Limb loss resulting from disease or trauma affects an estimated 185,000 Americans annually, significantly reducing their quality of life. Consequently, successful attempts to regrow missing appendages could substantially improve the prognosis for amputees. In mice, the digit tip spontaneously regenerates resected tissues following distal amputation, whereas this capacity diminishes at more proximal levels after amputation. Moreover, regenerative potential is influenced by genetic variations among inbred mouse strains: LG/J (healer) mice exhibit superior reparative potential compared to SM/J (non-healer) mice. Depression in older adults is often underdiagnosed and has been linked to adverse outcomes, including motor vehicle crashes. With a growing population of older drivers in the United States, innovations in screening methods are needed to identify older adults at greatest risk of decline. This study used machine learning techniques to analyze real-world naturalistic driving data to identify depression status in older adults and examined whether specific demographics and medications improved model performance. There are many causes of high-output cardiac failure. We present a unique case of high-output cardiac failure caused by multiple coronary-to-pulmonary artery (PA) fistulas, which, to our knowledge, is a rare finding that has not been previously researched. The purpose of our case report is to highlight the importance of considering coronary-to-PA fistulas in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with high-output cardiac failure. Our patient presented to the emergency department with shortness of breath and underwent nuclear stress testing, which, through cardiac catheterization, revealed coronary-to-PA fistulas as the cause of the high-output cardiac failure. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the counseling programs in clinical instruction, mentorship, and student’s perception of the university. The qualitative data presented in this paper identifies eight counseling students’ beliefs of support during their time in counseling program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data was obtained through semi-structured interviews. An interpretive phenomenological analysis resulted in four themes: including higher education response, personal resources, emotions in crisis, and transitions in crisis.

Counselor educators (CE) prepare counselor education doctoral students (CEDS) to work as counselors, scholars, leaders, supervisors, and teachers. While we have a firm understanding of how CEDS develop in general (Limberg et al., 2013; Moss et al., 2014), there is little known about how they develop specifically as teachers. The goal of this research study was to gain insight into how teacher identity develops for CEDS. We interviewed 10 participants using transcendental phenomenology methodology to gain insight into their teaching preparation experiences and identities as teachers. We tested whether merely witnessing gendered microaggressions affects group work experiences among male and female undergraduate computer science and engineering students. Across three experiments (N = 753), we randomly assigned computer science and engineering students to witness microaggressions targeting female students, or control interactions, using a video manipulation. Witnessing microaggressions-compared to the control-resulted in heightened gender-specific stereotyping concerns, with women being concerned about appearing incompetent and men being concerned with appearing sexist. For both women and men, witnessing microaggressions resulted in decreased enthusiasm for participating in group work.
