Reminiscences Of A Male Midwife, Herman W. Johnson

Herman Walter Johnson was born in Andover, Vermont, August 2, 1883 and died November 14, 1958. He graduated from the University of Buffalo Medical School, New York in 1905. He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine.
In his autobiography Dr. Johnson discussed his life, the progress of obstetrics and gynecology and his tenure at Baylor College of Medicine.
Further references to Dr. Johnson can be found in the Texas State Journal of Medicine, 55: 73, Jan. 1959 and Bulletin of the Harris County Medical Society July, 1969, p. 10.

The educational importance of speech problems.
There are a number of justification for the existence of speech therapy in the public schools, and some of them have often been expressed in terms of the educational handicap presented by the children with speech defects. Spelling, reading, writing, and speaking often seem to be directly affected by a speech defect. Non-verbal subjects (geography, mathematics, etc.,) can also be affected because they frequently require written reports and oral recitations. In school, the children with speech defects are said to exhibit an overall retardation. Van …
