A Comparison Of Rectal And Axillary Temperatures On One Hundred Selected Newborn Infants, Marlene Van Puymbrouck

This study was conducted on one hundred full-term normal newborn infants to compare body temperatures as obtained by axilla and rectal measures and to find out which measure recorded the highest temperature. Three time periods of axillary measurement and three time periods of the three depths of rectal measure were considered. The three time periods were (1) one and one-half, (2) three, and (3) five minutes. The three depths of rectal insertion were (1) insertion of the bulb end of the thermometer just beyond the sphincter, (2) 2.5 cm., and (3) 5 cm. into the rectum.

Because pathogens such as streptococcus and staphylococcus have been transferred in many hospitals, the source of the infections is of concern to doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. As shown by the review of literature, good techniques are necessary to stop the spread of disease.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate one facet of patient safety by: (1) the culture of thermometers ready for use in three selected hospitals; (2) to determine the effectiveness of the Group, Individual, and Central Supply methods of disinfection currently practiced in the three selected hospitals.

Statement of the Problem: The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether nursing care currently being given to hemiplegic patients in the area of body mechanics was adequate; to develop a standard from current literature in the field of medicine, physical therapy, and nursing by which nursing care given to hemiplegic patients could be evaluated; and to learn if better prepared nursing personnel were giving better nursing care.

The College of Forest, Range and Wildlife Management (hereafter referred to as the College of Forestry) at Utah State University has been concerned for some time with the problem of selecting from the applicants to their school the ones whom they think will be able to complete the requirements for graduation. The large number of freshman students placed on probation at the end of the fall quarter and of succeeding quarters each year fives some idea of the magnitude of the problem. It is not unusual for 40 or 50 percent of the entering freshmen to be in this category.

Guided abduction has been well accepted in Southern California as an effective method in the initial treatment of congenital hip dislocation. Since 1953, when this procedure was first instituted, no report has been made in the world literature describing its application and the results obtained. One of the purposes of this communication has been to outline the stages in treatment and show some of the results obtained.

The early group of congenital hip dislocations represents a difficult problem. It has been shown as a result of this study that guided abduction is an effective way to control the reduction of …

The purpose of this study was to identify safety factors in patient care on the medical service of a selected hospital in order to find information which could lead to recommendations for safety measures which might improve patient safety and patient care.

The descriptive-survey method of research was used. Data regarding the reported incidents were collected from the regular incident report forms, in use in the hospital. for a period of one year. Data regarding potential, unreported incidents were collected from special report forms, for a period of two months.
