Principles Understood By Nurses Relative To The Care Of Tracheostomy Patients, Mary Ann Featherstone

A descriptive study was conducted to determine what scientific principles were understood by nurses relative to the care of tracheostomy patients. A random sample of thirty-five nurses: twenty-four from medical-surgical units, three from pediatric units, and eight nurses from intensive care units, were selected from nurses working at two community hospitals. The interview method was used to obtain the data. An interview guide was developed from information gained in the literature review and findings of the pilot study.

An Anthropometric Study Of The Face And Dentition Of The Papago Indian At The Stewart Indian School, Carson City, Nevada, Stephen J. Christensen

The dentition and craniofacial complex of the Papago Indian was studied and compared to other groups. Casts of plaster and lateral cephalometric roentgenograms were obtained from 31 Papago Indians who were from southwestern Arizona and were attending high school at the Stewart Indian Boarding School, Carson City, Nevada. The individuals were between the ages of 13 and 20 years and had normal jaw relationships with no contiguous missing teeth. Data was obtained for the following variables from an oral examination, dental casts and tracings of the roentgenograms:

1. Degree of shovel shape of the maxillary centrals.

The problem of this study was (1) to find the incidence of fever among adult medical patients in the selected hospital, (2) to find the incidence of elevations of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or above after being below 100 for twenty-four hours or longer. and (3) to find what factor or factors, if any, could be used to identify these patients.

A descriptive research study was conducted on forty-five patients. The study was guided by the null hypotheses that: (1) positive communication will create more stress than by-talk communications (2) by-talk communication will create more stress than negative communications, and (3) positive communication will create more stress than negative communication. The purpose of the study was to find out the patients' reaction to nurses' controlled communication as they administered injections to the patients. Various individual and supplemented plant proteins were studied by the protein efficiency ratio (PER) method to determine their relative abilities to promote growth in young albino rats. Animals received a 10 percent level of protein in an otherwise adequate ration.

A soy fiber product was found to have a PER which was not significantly different from that of the control, which received non-fat Animals received a dry milk as the only source of protein, Despite good growth, however. these experimental animals failed to show satisfactory reproductive responses.
